This fucking thing 😂
Road it around and although it was shit, it worked, looked cool and everyone was happy.
One day it refused to start. Absolutely nothing, despite having been fine the week before. Chucked a condenser and points at it which achieved fuck all, chucked a new coil on which also did nowt and then life got in the way.. .. .. we sold a business (where it mainly lived),  moved house ( where it also lived) and during that it went to stay with a mate of a mate who was going to 'fix it' but just left it outside to patina more 200 miles away inaccessible from the new house where there wasn't space for it because builders. Bah. Poor thing.
 
Some time later.
It's now had new carbs as the others had no seals left (because ethanol I assume) and the mounting faces were very warped. The old ones put as much fuel into the general atmosphere as the engine, very stinky. An obvious problem so surely that's why it doesn't run. Nope , much kicking later reveled no desire to fire or any sign of life.
The wiring was suspect with lots of blue crimp terminals and the feed for the absent sidecar having just been sheared through, so a rewire was done with the loom being more appropriately fabric wrapped, and hidden away from sight more and with the nasty hex head stainless bolts replaced with black button heads, so it's looking great. A broken wire was found on the back of the generator as we went so hooray that must be it. New battery, battery clamp and master switch whilst we were there.
Kick. Kick. Kick. Fiddle with new 'baselined' carbs. Kick kick kick oh fuck off.
Still no go. Checking over and the spark strength is very poor. The whole distributor unit is wobbly, worn and shit. So more new bits were bought, an electric ignition upgrade unit this time with another new (but matched coil. ) Followed the instructions. Put the tank on, kicked it without much hope and it started 😁. A-mezz-in. Modern tech has it's uses.
Sat there idling nicely. Generator light firmly and brightly on 😖 so not there yet, but it's closer to done than it has been for some while 
 
 
 

Thanks Stu' ..I'm hopeful that with a skim of filler and a coat of paint, it'll look as if it had always been there.
Today I loaded up the car of pre-purchased supplies, for my friend who'll be doing the paint for me ..as I'll be seeing him tomorrow morning.  The chap I'm sub-letting the barn from has another car coming in on Saturday so I'll need to move my car out of the way, and in the meantime to clear the floor all around of tools. I mostly did that today and it's nice to have a tidy barn / work place again. 
I then got on with trimming the bottom off of that side-bumper-bracket. Now it'll not be seen, save from laying under the car. 
Next, and quite a challenge for me to know how to tackle the task, but I've now started extending the valance panel's bolt-through flange. No pictures of any of this yet I'm afraid, but I will post one or two ..possibly on Thursday evening.  In fact, the only photo I took today was when taking advantage of the exceptional sunlight coming in from the barn's back wall window ..then I got straight on with doing my jobs, only stopping now and then to thaw my fingers out. 

^ The car in good light ..as she presently is, still work in progress, and with the valance panel in bare metal it's hardly noticeable.

Not much to report today.
I did correct the curved shape of the infill piece and then got on with making the first of the handed pair of front bumper side irons.

I'm not using the original side-irons, which would have poked through the side of the new valance, but instead have fabricated a new one which also clamps / secures in place that panel at the sides. The slotted hole in the bumper's own bracket gives the necessary vertical adjustment. All too often you see the rear blade of these slim-line bumpers hanging too low ..as if presenting a sad face (similarly slim bumpers used on the Jaguar 240/340 and Daimler 250, as well as the Jaguar S-type, Mk10 & 420 and Daimler Sovereign).  The inside curved flange of the bracket is cut to follow the outside curve of the valance panel, and two bolts clamp it up to the underside of the 'crows feet'.  I've yet to trim the bottom corner of the (recycled metal) bracket off to be horizontal.
From the underside it looks as if the valance panel is positioned a long way under / inward but even there it's almost too far out relative to the wing panel above.. The chassis structure prevents it going inwards any further.

  I've also reshaped the back corner of the valance panel to bring it in better line with the shape of the wheel-arch.

New radiator and clean intercooler brighten up front end view.

Some pre 2001 font number plates should arrive tomorrow. I've been meaning to address the inappropriate plates ever since the car went back on the road nearly ten years ago. 😀

A bit more to this story...from owner's son
'Was a factory order. He did have 2 identical as he bought me mam one so she didn’t drive his. That one was left to the elements on the drive and as they live near the sea it simply disintegrated. The one in the picture has always been garaged.'
The old boy has been asked to stop driving now, so yes, it may come up for sale some time. Reg is M199NHN, 1st August reg, so bought as it changed to M.
Had 32k miles at last MOT, currently SORN'd. MOT history is good.

Floor pan repair is next.
Started on the passenger side front first.

Bit scruffy,but not too bad.

Some wire brush action revealed more holes.

Welded up and welds dressed.
