Can't you just send the carb you've got to a local engineering company and get them to re-bush it? Even if they have to make another spindle, it's bread and butter work for them, surely it's not insurmountable?

My hunt for a Mk2 Golf ended on Monday
To say i'm happy with it is an understatement, it's in fantastic condition, I know the suspension and wheels won't appeal to a lot on here, but I think it suits them. It seems to be great on fuel, and I've not stopped grinning every time I drive it - it's an absolute weapon with the 1.8 20v Turbo conversion. Power steering model too so it's actually nice to drive around town.
Verdict - Well chuffed

There's a high mileage thread kicking around somewhere
Regardless, my daily T4 Camper just passed 386K at the start of this week

It appears to have the most subtle two-tone paintwork ever.
I have an inexplicable fondness for the Picnic (Ipsum in Japan). Toyota GB built this one-off Sport, complete with alloys off the Camry Sport. I still have a set of the latter so it could be recreated.
Inspired by the above, I built a 1:24 version which will probably be the closest I'll ever get:
Nice to see you back SL
I'm sure that Picnic also had Celica GT4 running gear? or did they do another one?

As said above, theminiforum is very good, plenty of knowledgeable helpful folk on there.
Yep, they rust. Lots. My '94 i'm doing at the moment was a very nice example, once one bleb appears though, there's others lurking. I had to do LOADS of metalwork to it and it looked a cracker. I'm still finding bits now - I thought i'd whip the front shock top mounts off to clean and paint them - there was nothing left behind! Check the seams around the bulkhead and inner wing brace panels for any signs of grot.
They used to be cheap - now they are not. Parts are readily available, most repro stuff needs a lot of work, genuine is mega pricey. £478 for the rear subframe. Genuine inner wing i've just bought to chop up to repair mine was £180
Minispares are probably the best supplier - they seem to put a lot of effort into reproducing stuff so it's decent quality.
I reckon with modern underseals and rust preventers, and a bit of care it should be possible to slow the inevitable creep of rust - i'm building mine as a daily so im hoping, anyway

I missed this before - what an absolute honey 😎

I'm pretty happy with my car history, although sometimes when I remember the colossal amount of money I've squandered on old rammel it makes me wince a bit 😆
A few of the memorable ones:
BMW 840ci - always wanted one, it looked ace but was totally unremarkable to drive and it constantly went wrong
Porsche 928 S2 - 600 quid off a bloke at work - needed a new rad and a gearbox flush - it was a right weapon - it really did feel special.
Mitsubishi Tredia - an autoshite holy grail
Datsun B110 1200 estate - a proper cool little estate
Numerous minis - loved them all
Capri 1.6LS - minty mint, put a warm 2.0 in it, nice wheels etc, i loved the look but they drive like an old sack barrow - see below for:
Sierra XR4i - proper minty 3 door, it was lovely, I'd wanted one since I was 12. Absolute disappointment to drive - sounded nice but what a wallowy underpowered, underbraked piece of shit. My old dears 1.6 colt was faster and far better to drive. Old fords look cool but i'm not a fan of how they drive. I'd still love a mk2 escort 2 door though
Camaro Z28 Iroc Z - mullet-tastic lovely sounding t top wheezer.
I've broken loads of stuff up and sold stuff off cheap that would be worth a fortune now - ah well!

This is coming together really nicely, top marks!

The ongoing mini fettling continues, the inner cavities and all the upper surfaces of the subframe have been drenched in Dynax S50 and UB, i made the rear end of the front to back brake pipe up as it runs behind the subframe, and it's now bolted back in place 😀 theres a bit more stuff to reconnect and the bottom of the subframe to coat before it drops back on its wheels so I can turn it round and undergo the same wallet draining from the front end when I yank the mill out 🤦♂️🤣

Bit more mini fettling today, the brake pipe kit i bought is shite, theyre all about 2" too long... 🙃 so I thought id tackle the heater. I wasn't going to bother with it, but back when I first bought it in 2006 it had a slight leak on the matrix. Radweld fixed it back then, but with all this effort on it I thought i'd pull it out and change the matrix.
Mouse fresh 🤢🐁
ps, dont tell the mrs....
-
Managed to get a few hours mini ing this aft, got the drivers door window and regulator fitted, and got a bit of headway made on building the subframe up. I'd have got the handbrake cables fitted but i thought id bought some new quadrants for the radius arms, seems i bought everything but! 🤦♂️
Ill blast the old ones up tomoz and see if they will go again
