Kia Pride is the same but I can't find one of those either.

I've bought a MX5 housing for 13 quid - assuming it fits I'm going to try to wangle something together with a 90° reducing elbow and a joiner.  I begrudge paying nearly 100 quid for a used Festiva housing from the US.  That's almost 20% of the car's value...

There seemed to be multiple Kia Pride thermostat housings on a Google search e.g. https://www.eurocarparts.com/search/209545190?type=shopping

I can't remember if you need the 2 bolt or 3 bolt pattern (I think my Pride was a 2 bolt job) or if the water hose is straight out or a side mount, but I saw multiple variants in the search results.

That didn't go well.  Went out to the Mazda at lunchtime to check the coolant level, noticed a drip from under the thermostat housing so removed it to check whether the gasket was seated properly.

Well shit.  That's that car out of action then until I can source a replacement.  Only possibilities I've found so far are a new housing from a site in the Philippines which won't post outside the country, and a rather overpriced used Ford Festiva housing on eBay US. @gricer do you have any hot tips for sourcing bits for these?  I could try JB Weld I suppose but that's unlikely to be a long term solution...

No compatable Kia part I assume either.

Was that a real Uber driver, or someone just filling in for the real Uber driver?

He had one of the big door stickers and it was a Renault Kangoo so fairly classic Uber vehicle.

  4. Was walking back from a meal out when I hear the sound of a vehicle with a flat tyre behind me.

It passes by and pulls up about 50m ahead, left rear as flat as a supermodel. As I walk past, I spot the big Uber sticker and realise that the idiot at the wheel was there to pick up his fare.

I mean Uber have some low standards, but that is taking the piss.

  5. Been to memorial service at church then come home to read all this. I am doubly sad.

I have some of the sheets as paper still, but others were scanned and binned. Will that spring clear out come to haunt me in the years to come

In all the auctions at Cannock 3 cars tempted me to bid on them.

A Proton Satira GTi with a hole in the driver's seat, a red Alfa 147 2.0 and something that was bright yellow, Japanese and had a 1.3 turbo, but I can't remember the make or model offhand.

All 3 were in the £300 to £400 bracket at the hammer.

Front pipe on my 305 van broke off from the back box and was scraping the road. Fuck me it's loud. Bugger.

I remember when the front pipe on my Laguna 1 cracked somewhere near the manifold joint.

It started as nicely rorty and seamed happier to rev. As the pipe failed further, it got too loud and very unpleasant.

  7. The Skoda is fine for Birmingham and Leeds. I commute into Birmingham city centre 4 days a week and by far the quickest way into the city is to cycle. The only time that I drive in is if I am picking up Mrs Sloth or dropping her off and then only well away from the rush hour. The A38 can make a useful cut through, especially if the ring road is screwed somewhere from an accident or roadworks. The council should be a lot more aware of the mess that closing that road to a load of traffic will make.

It looked and sounded pretty good. Definitely worth the paltry hammer price I reckon.

MAJOR alarm bells because it had seat covers though.

My alarm bells would be more ringing from the lack of a towing eye cover on the ovlov. I know some of the Volvo 2 litre engines like to suddenly lose their coolant and cook themselves, I don't know if that model is so afflicted.

Beefeater is extremely busy for Friday. They said to phone back on Thursday in case there has been a cancellation otherwise it looks like it'll be two separate tables at different times.

What other options are there in Cannock? Just incase.

If you want something of the same level(ish) then there is a brewers fayre a mile along the A5.
