I think we can all agree that lockdown was a difficult time for many. With less actual work to do I had more time to take stock off just how many projects I have ongoing, realistically i don't have time to progress all of them as much as is needed - Red Rebel, Scimitar SS1, Capri, Boat, etc etc.

Thinking about that was a bit depressing so instead I  bought a small aluminium bodied electric car with a rotten steel space frame chassis and £1200 of missing batteries to add to the project queue!

First three photos taken outside the previous owners house where its been sat since 2016 when he changed jobs and could no longer get to work on a single charge:

And arrived back on the isle of wight for probably the first time since it was built here 45 years ago:

It’s worth what someone will pay for it. Is a painting worth £10 million? Or even a pizza worth £10? If someone will pay it, it’s worth it to them. It may not be worth it to you but that’s why it’s not yours if that makes sense.

Looks fixable. Seen worse rebuilt I recon. Yes yes yes I know it’s “past t-cut”. But with the right amount of work it’ll see asphalt again.

Big thanks to Ian Fearn. These are great and seem good quality to me, I am looking forward to actually being able to tour Europe again. I will take a Cortina to Cortina in 2022, probably the estate in the pictures and I hope to drive the Granada to Granada but it will not be this year!

Reminds me of when I went to a broken down Mega Bus at Sandbach services. Driver and passengers were all stood outside so I cracked on and found my way into the engine compartment buried deep inside. 5 mins later I got out, no one there. I rang the driver. “Where the fuck are you?”
“We all got picked up by another bus, if you fix it, take it back to your workshop!” My response was not a chance. After hanging up a hurried passenger showed up, where is everyone? He asked. Gone mate.  You missed the bus ?

Those old capris were simple beasts, it’ll see another day no questions. It’s not like a fire damaged modern car, when one of those catches fire you are fucked.

    More doings. ?
First I quickly welded up the start of a downpipe support bracket (still not bored of my new welder and having the ability to stick metal together) and then started to strip down the engine to swap the dummy head for the new one. This focused attention onto the oil coolant heat exchanger, and it was decided that it really would be better without the oil /coolant heat exchanger as it's a shit oil cooler, but mainly because of the oem installed pipe routing.

Grim, poor effort sven. But happily it's removable.

Undo the nut underneath the oil filter and the ally square assembly slides right off

All* you need to do now is shorten /cut the centre pipe down and bypass the hoses so that the water jacket feeds the rail directly.
Of course, despite getting it cut off on a lathe the threads caught and pulled a coil out of the filter head. Caused quite a bit of quiet panic for a while but I managed to fiddle it right in the end.

    Success. Much better. ?

The 940 clicked 222222 yesterday, its been the cheapest car I have ever owned.
After 3 years I have had to fit 4 new tyres and replace the front brakes recently but the parts were cheap enough. So with all those new bits it should be good to 250K now.

Mrs PD saw me using a pair of spring compressors one day.  The next day she turned up with one of those foot operated things you can get at machine mart and demanded that I hand over the old ones which she slung in the boot of her car never to be seen again. Obviously she is a keeper. If any shitter wants to borrow it they are welcome. Im in Durham

I think actually that's their legal obligation. They don't have to contact every purchaser about the product. Like @Jikovron said, these are lethal. So it shows how much they're actually that bothered by it.
Best thing to do would be, if you have one obviously, to attach it to a spring and bring it in as such. "I was half way through using them when I saw they could kill me, so I thought it would be best if you dealt with it".
