  1. It wasn’t all paedos and racists.
  2. Seriously, I thought small arch Shadow 1’s had progressed beyond the Wedding car/ white Dulux, Banger Racer, HMC level to become bona-fide classics.
  3. Yes, but not to smoke inside the car.
  4. It was far busier than I ever remember, that could have been the nice weather though. Your Maxi was missed, especially as apart from the obligatory Minilited Minis and a couple of Stags and the usual P6es, it would have been the only real BL thing there. Me mentioning this to the Management Committee prompted the response “ If you like crappy old BL stuff so much , why don’t you buy one !” This has made me think seriously about a Marina, Princess or yes even a Maxi. Which is odd as before I went German about25 years ago, I thought of myself as a Ford Man. I’ve been looking at old heaps for my 60th and anything with a Ford badge and RWD is more expensive than a Bentley. Sorry only took one picture, but there was nothing new, anyway.
  5. Bollocks ! Forgot all about that ! On my way now, will look out for 6Cs, almost certain I’ll see The Silver’s Maxi in Budgens carpark . It has been for the last few years. Edit: Should have read @Six-cylinder’sreply first😊
  6. Yes, my stupid Father-in-law broke two on his. One in a car wash . The second time was when a Calor Gas bottle in the boot rolled back. To be honest, it must have been a tough car to last the almost 10 years he had his, a fairly basic silver 1600, from memory.
  7. As 7 out of 8 of the fleet are German, this was the only breakdown this year. The RAC, kept me waiting for 7 hours. Made worse by the fact I’d only been out of hospital after a FTP of my own, for two days. Mrs N had to bring drugs to me, in a Mercedes, naturally. The Jag just needed a new alternator and was to be fair the only issue I had in 2 years, sold now. The Boxster needed a jump after being left for 6 weeks and it was frosty . Seems to have held charge since, but then I haven’t neglected it as much in recent weeks.
  8. The stupid extra bit of window that doesn’t go down MercedesE classCoupes. Amazingly lazy solution to having a pillar less side profile. The only way for glass to clear the inner wheel arch, you say? Then how come the CLK, it’s predecessor, and the CL not to mention the convertible version of the same car manage with one piece of glass?
  9. The only Majorette I recall as a kid was a Cafe Hag VW Van , can’t remember where it came from but was always in the box of my Dad’s old Dinkys at my Grandma’s house , consequently never got played with as it was the wrong scale.
  10. I have fond memories of those Binatone games , my Dad was the owner of Binatone’s chauffeur so we had a house full of anything and everything they sold when I was a kid. in more relevant news , I went to a market in Oxford yesterday and as expected prices were mental, £20 for playworn Dinkys and Corgis . Even at those prices I was tempted by Dinky Corsair( early small one not 2000e) but my inherent meanness meant I’ll wait for a NornIron bargain one to come up. I also went in a TKMaxx and saw these; for a Quid each, but the queue was half a mile long and we didn’t need anything else… on a positive note I did spot @quicksilvertaking his life in his hands on a roundabout , taking pictures of lorries in Buckingham.
  11. I meant that particular saloon for that money, not all petrol W211’s . If spending £3000 from a stranger why not choose an easier path. Of the five 3.0 V6 diesels I’ve owned and done a helluva lot of miles in ( over a million) never have I had any turbo, dpf or injector problems, must be my gentle use and meticulous maintenance schedule , eh? I agree with the ULEZ stuff, I’m even considering changing my 220d estate, which I love , maybe for a 500. Just need to weigh up 25 mpg vs 45 and how often I go into London, so far since August I’ve done about 7,000 miles and spent about £150 to Citizen Khan. But, math is hard !
  12. Today’s haul. The Matchbox CX Safari , I’ve already got so if anyone wants it for a Quid plus postage, let me know. The RX7 and Panda Car were also both a Pound. Got a second HW Land Rover to paint white as a replica of one I owned. Not sure why I bought the Drift 240 , I don’t like it! so again if anybody wants it for £1.49 plus postage…
  13. I had a manual W211 once , it was horrid. The seating position felt weird , possibly from having to have the seat so far forward to fully depress the clutch ( I’m 6’3 with quite long legs) but I never felt comfortable in it. I got rid of it after a few months. I’ve had 2 W211s, 2 W210s and 3 W212s since- all autos!
  14. That particular car seems the worst of all Worlds to me ; pre-facelift so SBC issues etc, Airmatic with associated potential expenses, 6 pot petrol for low mpgs. No w211 unless a V8 is fast so unless you really want a sunroof and keyless go, I’d recommend spending that sort of money on a post 2006 V6 diesel the 280 has 190 bhp the 320 220 ( I think) both the same 3.0 V6 that Merc put in everything from Sprinters to S Classes for the best part of 20 years. Will do 40mpg in an E Class cruise all day at 100 and apart from annoying oil cooler leaks don’t really go wrong. Plus there’s much more choice as diesel was the default choice for E Class buyers for most of this Century , so far.
  15. I think you’ll find they’re GL wheels, the L didn’t get the fancy chrome hubcaps, just plastic centre cap and wheel nut covers. Not that I’m a Granada Anorak or owt… From mid83 minor facelift ( economy drive) the GL got a full plastic trim, these were weird in that they didn’t have a rim , they fitted inside the wheel onto the nuts. The LX also got a white version of this trim and the L also got them later.
  16. If that Mercury and Old Bill XJ40 fell into my box at some point , I wouldn’t kick ‘em out of bed.
  17. Just don’t do what a mate of mine did many years ago when tarting up the arches on his Mk2 Escort. He put the aerosol in a pan of water on the gas hob… Luckily he wasn’t in the kitchen when it exploded, everything and I mean everything including windows etc was dark blue, the can ended up embedded in the ceiling. To say his mum was a bit miffed is an understatement.
  18. I’ve remembered it’s Friday, I’m not working and I’m awake. Sorry chaps, this will mean the market has burnt down or something. There’s only good stuff when I forget. In other news my local Aldi has some new Hotwheels at £1.79. I’m kicking myself that I didn’t get another Land Rover to paint white as a replica of the 1958 S2 V8 I had when I was 19. I used to take the hardtop and door tops off and drive round with the screen folded just like that, I’d leave it like that outside the station when I commuted to London- different times.
  19. Now for something completely different Diecst spotted on telly! A box of diecast emptied out during a search in Episode 2 Series 1 of The Sweeney. A bit random as it was in the bedsit of a villain not a family home. Maybe a proto toy car collector.
  20. Every restaurant I’ve ever been in , in any Country, has given tap water for free.
  21. That’s an L300 , I think and much bigger than a Rascal. Almost Transit, Sherpa size and quite popular in the early 80’s.
  22. If you do happen to find your way back, I’d give that Somerset a home. It’s about the only one of my Dad’s old Dinkys that I haven’t got, he reckons it went misssing about 55 years ago, I barely remember it as I’d have been 5. I do have a dodgy cousin from Derry that grew up to be involved in VAT fraud, I wonder, it does look as if somebody has tried to change its identity…
  23. I thought I knew all about Granadas, right up until I watched a Korean film recently set in the 80’s and the senior Cops and Government people, were using these. I knew about the Hyundai Cortinas but had no idea they made Grannys, note the V6 badge and the Japanese looking interior, apparently very expensive and only available for 3 years . Now to research the Kia alternative- a Pug 604!
