Hawkeyethenoo reacted to Supernaut in Supernaut's Cars - 323i / Megane
Aye, I'll get Torque running when I take it out tomorrow and see what it says for coolant temp.
I just spent about half an hour going over it with dashboard cleaner, glass cleaner and polish. I strategically targeted the sun cream hand prints on the exterior. They're all gone now and the inside is an order of magnitude nicer to spend time in now.
I reckon a proper polish plus a set of decent trimz will transform it.
Oh. I also went to the local tyre place and paid a whopping £14 to get the fourth matching tyre resealed. That's now back on the left rear and the shitey Landsail is in the spare wheel well.
I checked the oil. It's at the top but is black as the night.
I may be placing a large order with Opie oils soon, as the BMW is due about this time of year too.

New decals applied. Hope they last when going fast. Might end up with a 50. 🫠

After 3 years sat in the garage and only covering about 5 miles to the MOT station and back last year, my 75 has set sail, quite literally and has gone to some fanatical 75 collector in Belgium. I now live in Gibraltar so getting the car over here was going to be costly and a bit of a faff to say the least. It served me well for 8 years but deserved better in the end so some chap from Belgium contacted me and offered a healthy sum to acquire it.

In other news I bought this recently, not my ideal choice of motor but second hand cars are somewhat limited here in Gibraltar and this has been well kept. Very little choice of nice 15-20 year old stuff here. It’s mostly death traps that haven’t been MOT’d since last millennium or nearly new Mercs and Range Rovers for eleventy million pounds, only for it to be scraped and dented before you get the thing a mile up the road. So this tank was acquired, starting to quite like it and very practical for going shopping over in Spain (when our Spanish neighbours let us through the border)

Yeah. When I did a check it said the last owner acquired it on the "21-08-2010". So a long term owner. The chap I bought it from only had it a few months tops. That is a big red flag for me and one I'd usually walk away from if I was there in person.
This only came to light when inspector morose arrived to pickup and was handed the V5. Problem is that barrow-in-furness is a long way from everything/anyone. So I'd lost a chunk of money from transportation costs if I pulled out then. As I'd already mentally committed, it's much easier to give the nod to go ahead than hit the abort button. Also the seller previously said that it was a project he was going to do with his son. So I erroneously assumed from quick thinking at the time that was the previous seller.
Incidentally I found the previous advert that previous (long term) seller by googling the reg and finding a link to it on the eBay thread here.
The blue 1100 I bought was sight unseen and a good little car. Likewise the P4 I bought unseen ended up being a good buy too.
You win some, you loose some. A risky game though and have to be prepared to loose money from a duff purchase.
Biggest thing is that I should have bailed out at so many points before now. But the flip side is that, despite struggling for time, I've enjoyed fixing the body up on this one. Massively helped by the cheap, accurate and easy supply of panels (custom panel making is hard and time consuming).

Wife's Jimny Cabriolet broke down again - it really is an ungrateful little bastard of a thing! Fuel related this time, I think. Turns over won't start. I ended up pushing it back - all caught on my own cars dashcam which doesn't require to be pushed - if it did I'd bridge it - hear that you little Japanese (built in Spain by Santana) bastard !

Saw lots of lovely things at Goodwood breakfast club this AM, including this F4. I realise it would be horrible to own but they're so pretty.

The station didn’t begin with a G. It was Ham Street where I bought this.
Yup, I’ve become another AutoShiter with a C6. This one though is a 2.2 manual rather than the more common 2.7 V6. The first fifty miles have been very wafty despite the awful traffic through the Dartford Crossing. I’m going to buy some diesel now then head northwards back home.

Hawkeyethenoo reacted to Alan_Green in USA Road Trip.
Hey, I'm doing that there too next week. Except I'm not. Guess there must be more than one Fayetteville. I'm road-tripping by the North Carolina Fayetteville and up to Washington DC. Got my rural Americana activities all lined up:
Pinehurst - Patriotic Pets Parade. Aberdeen - Sardine Festival. Raleigh - Hip Hop Rodeo. Oxford - Hot Sauce Festival & Pepper Eating Contest. Winston-Salem - Truck & Tractor Pull. Are you supposed to have an international driving licence then? Oops. I've never had one and I used to live there. Doing it in a Camry (*or similar)

I am looking forward to three weeks away from work, though I never stop thinking about it. Dennis just sent this, this morning. 40’C when I get there on Friday. Add in some humidity, and it seems I will be flying in shorts and flip flops. I know how the heat hits you in the face as you step out of the buildings. Luckily even the workshop has air conditioning And beer.
