  1. A place i used to work at always had trouble finding somewhere for the xmas night out...we were never allowed back to the same places again and word obviously spread to other venues because the parties would always get well out of hand and shit would get fucked up.

I used to think this was a bit much, but then years of working at a different place where the xmas party was a quiet meal, two glasses of beer and then hometime left me missing the good ol days of stealing bowling balls from the tenpin alley and bowling them down George street and through the window of Cash Converters.

I've just burst out laughing in the middle of Spoons at that...LOL!

  2. I've had all sorts of random brands, often all 4 different on cars I've bought and never really had any issues other than a bit of wheel spin pulling away in the damp/wet. Always replace them with a mid range though - Toyo, Uniroyal etc and they do feel much better without hurting the wallet too much.

  3. Fucks sake, I changed my address with Tesco Mobile 2 months ago, just happened to log in to the website for another reason and it's still listed as my old address.

Looked back in my emails and I had to reply to an email they sent me confirming I wanted it changed. Course I did, or I wouldn't have asked, would I? Surprised the direct debits worked.

Why is getting anything done with telcos so hard?

  4. I worked in a school that was built in 2002 and the heating wouldn't come on unless it was +5 degrees C outside to protect itself... powered by a lovely obsolete (even at the time) building management system running on Win98.

The boilers were bought on the cheap because they were end of line too. The caretaker asked me to try and light one one day because he'd tried for ages and was at the end of his tether. Did get it going, after about 20 minutes but it really needed some part replacing apparently that was long NLA.

  5. If anyone has any luck telling a cat where it can and can't go outside, let me know how -I spend every waking moment telling our three to get off the table/sideboard/bench/TV and before I've even turned my back another one will be somewhere else they shouldn't be.

    The knobs.

  6. PVD, have you been to the docs before about it? If not, would be worth giving them a call. Don't be put off by thinking it's girly or whatever, it takes a lot of guts to go and talk about it.

I find it helps to make a list of where you want to be, (e.g house, career, cars etc) and then how you can achieve it, but make sure they're SMART (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant and Timely http://www.yourcoach.be/en/coaching-tools/smart-goal-setting.php).

Sound corny, but writing down that you want to be a millionaire next week just leaves you disappointed if it doesn't happen. If you do bits at a time, you'll feel better for having seen what you have achieved and it will spur you on to go further.

  7. Minus 1 outside, on a dual carriageway doing 20 odd and the car is still all over the place, wind is causing it to skid all over and there's snow on the ground. Braking? Forget it.

Surely no one would tailgate now? Oh, there's a private ambulance right up my arse with a head light pointing into orbit so now every mirror is blinding me.

Pull over and get rid of that prat, then there's a car up my arse.

    It's no wonder there's so many"accidents".

  8. I've returned to this thread a few times today in shock, hoping that I'd read it wrong and it wasn't true.

I never met Greg, but like many, enjoyed his contributions here.

So sad for his loved ones left behind.

Like Mo, I feel guilty for not having reached out.

I hope he is at peace now at least.

  9. Does anyone else find the occasional dazzler like this though - or is it me being a weed?

No, I'd say it's more like one in every 5 round here. Always utterly hanging early to mid 2000s cars.

One light out, the other pointing to Mars

  10. As some of you may have seen on the grumpy thread, I didn't have the best of weeks last week - left the interior light on overnight by accident, flattened the battery, and in my haste to get to work the next day, put the sodding thing on back to front. In my defense, the POSITIVE terminal has a feckin huge hinged bit of BLACK plastic over it, and a tiny red + printed on the side that is pointing towards the floor when the battery is off... but yeah, I R thick too.

Started it up and the battery light was on, along with the ABS light. Shit. Had to nick mother HH-R's car and look at it at the weekend.

Huge bolted in 120 amp fuse blown. Wasted some petrol going to my two local motor factors, who didn't have one (I've never successfully bought a part from either of them in 12 years of car ownership). Euro car parts? No. Maplin? Nope. Halfords? Negative.

FFS. I didn't really need it desperately, but would have liked to have known the extent of the damage before its MOT this Friday - if the ECU and ABS modules were knackered, along with maybe an alternator - realistically, it was scrap. But equally, that fuse could have protected it and everything could be fine.

In a third display of epic buffoonery, I ordered the correct fuse online - and had it delivered to my old address.

Anyway, finally got it today and... amazingly, everything works. Was a bit puzzled that the rear number plate lights didn't work, but looking at the state of the bulbs, they have been off for a while. Well, apart from the radio, but I can live with that. If it really is fooked, I have a few CD players lying around.

So phew... got away with a £4 fuse and a packet of £1 bulbs.

A few changes in circumstances means it will be placed into semi retirement soon - high days and holidays only. Got my bus pass from work so that's commuting sorted. Finished my college course in June and my new gaff will have a garage so it will be out of the elements when I move in.

Probably a bit odd having an old Kia Rio as a garage queen but it is in decent nick - you lot might be lusting over it when they have all been scrapped in 2030! ebay L@@K OMG GARAGE FNID etc

It's been a really good motor - only FTP has been the idiot owner.
