  1. I mean this too - my manifesto pledge would be to scrap VED (instead load it entirely onto the price of a new car), drastically simplify the driving licence entitlements and scrap the photo card too. Reduce the DVLA to a website where you update keeper details.
  2. A substantially smaller organisation that doesn't have the power to pull shit like this.
  3. The hole is drilled into the the battery box, a part of the monocoque available as an off the shelf replacement part because they are rust prone. I would be surprised if you found a Mini with its original. Something here is not fit for purpose, and it's not the car. #defundtheDVLA
  4. Congruent with my figures. 27 average, 35 if driven carefully on a run. I'm pleased to see you lavishing attention on this one. They're so cheap at the moment I think a lot are being neglected, and in the blink of an eye they're going to become rare (and dare I say desirable) classic Mercedes sports cars.
  5. The Christmas special NPH was a great night out- I think we had 14 people show up in total! We certainly had the longest table in the place. Tonight’s undoubtedly much smaller gathering is a return to routine, so that’s tonight at 7pm.
  6. Okay! Show me those pictures! Thanks, but that picture doesn't show that £10,000s have been spent on the car. In fact there is no information in this picture at all. Please give me another picture. This is closer. But I can't see what the invoices are for? The leaflet for the German car specialist whose logo is an upside down Netherlands flag is in the way. Ah, no, okay... that's the same photo but reframed to include dirty cups and floor. Could you please include a photo to show thousands of pounds of receipts, please? That's what I was after. You don't buy a new Foolscap folder if you aren't spending big money on a car. I'll take it! https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/225278577070

  17. Finance specialists! I wonder how long it's been since someone took out finance on a J reg Escort? I'm in! I want the 1994 experience of financing a used Escort. ah shit. Still, that makes a change from what I usually get, which is "sorry no finance available, sir, because you have the credit score of a man who defaulted on the payday loans he took out to invest in cryptocurrency" how is that recorded on the V5? right https://www.gumtree.com/p/ford/ford-escort-1.6-lx-5dr/1436626386
  18. I flashed my lights at someone, and the stalk snapped. Everything still worked, but it was floppy enough that the main beams were flashing like a strobe light at a high school disco. I rigged up a very carefully tensioned piece of duct tape, and it actually worked quite well. I also wasn't worried, since I'd bought a set of Marina stalks a few months ago to borrow the horn button. I'll stick them on, ten minute job. This is where we run into problem one. The "new" Marina stalks are, I suspect, not actually from a Marina as the indicator stalk is longer. Also the multiplug has been cut off. And the other stalk, which controls the wipers, is broken. Ah. Still, no problem, as I can make one good set from the two. Which I do. And after re-installation everything works perfectly - except the right hand indicator. Nothing. Now begins one of the most frustrating faults I have ever encountered on a car. The indicators work completely fine if I bridge the multiplug. They also worked fine before, so I'm quite sure the new stalks are at fault. However, the switch seems to work - a multimeter shows I have continuity on the right hand indicator circuit. I spent two days on and off dismantling and re-mantling this switch, swapping every single component of it with the broken one, one piece at a time. It works on a multimeter. It does not work in the car. There is NO REASON for this switch to not work. Yet it does not work. I pulled the stalks off my Mini and tried those. They work. So I need new stalks, so what? Stop complaining and buy some. Yah, sure, I will. But two things about this are infuriating me - first, this was not the fault I was fixing! The indicators worked fine with the broken stalk! Secondly, I wouldn't mind if the switch was just flat out broken, but not being able to find the fault is driving me crazy. There is no reason for this to not work! Whatever, for now I have my right hand indicator. The left is controlled from the stalk. The right is controlled from this discreet under dash switch for now. ...and if you think "that looks like bodged up shit, you should be ashamed" I fully agree.
