Something I'm curious about what is the most surviving old truck model in the UK, does anyone know?

I can say for sure that Norway's must be the Scania models like the 111 and 80 below, these were sold in many versions over a long time so I don't know all of the models but they have survived in large numbers here. And in my opinion one of the best looking trucks ever.

As in still working or preserved?

The Ecomet, looks similar overall but there are differences - door windows and lights for example.

That does appear to be the ancient Ford Cargo cab, it’s a funny old World where an Indian truck manufacturer currently uses the Leyland ‘plughole’ badge from the latter era of Lorry production in the UK, but you can now buy a Chinese electric MG car here if you wish.

It’s that prolific they aren’t going to investigate it because it’s seemingly not worth their time. If they weren’t bogged down dealing with mental health, disputes over social media and sorting drink/drug problems out they’d be able to tackle this but alas it’s now completely out of control so I wouldn’t expect them to take the time to investigate someone having had their car stolen.

Exactly, this is also why there is a huge problem with shoplifting now with the Police not being interested, welcome to lawless Britain.

The engine note and driving style of the Beetle is completely different to a Mini and it's entertaining to drive so far. I am enjoying ownership overall. It's very different. Not so much sit up and beg like a Mini, a bit more of a normal driving position. But it has off centre steering wheel like a Mini. Gearbox is nice to operate. Brakes are ok although not fantastic. Could be the car or the setup.

It's not quick. I struggled to keep up with a standard 1275 automatic Mini today. If the 1600 twin port is meant to be the fast Beetle engine then there isn't much hope 😅

I think having owned and enjoyed both. I am sticking with Minis being my favourite.

Although really I need to get a 2CV for a true comparison of people's cars!

Great memories being stirred up here of my daily drivers 30-35 years ago, I loved my Beetles and they were great fun but the few Renault 4’s I owned seemed to be easier to use daily and had working heaters!

  5. I picked up this Renault Clio 1.5dci for my sister in law a few weeks ago. It’s only done 64,000 miles and has a full service history and drives very well indeed, the chap we bought it from just couldn’t bring himself to scrapping it against the purchase of a citizen Khan approved vehicle that will stop thousands of Londoners dyeing every year apparently, it’s a little victory for us though and thank you very much Mr Khan!

Iveco daily recovery truck | eBay

Quite possibly the actual one I had the misfortune to pilot for a short while a few years ago.  It could go well enough (one lad got 95 on a flat, I bottled out at 88 down hill) but it wasn't especially amusing when the throttle pedal got stuck on the floor as you were overtaking wagons flat out down the Oswestry bypass. It also wasn't amusing when the back window fell out when it was 3 weeks old. Nor when the fuel pump packed up on it's first ever outing from brand new.  It was funny when you accidentally* put the tacho card in back to front through and just hammered it round all day without taking a break or sticking to speed limits. Allegedly.

I was a salesman at an Iveco dealer 21 years ago, and I’m still traumatised by the memories of selling these when just a few years old but totally fucked..

  7. This old Clio (affectionately known as Clumpy) has been my sister in laws daily driver for the last 7 years but has just been replaced by a 2012 Clio 1.5 DCI bargain ULEZ victim, how a car that is £20 a year road tax isn’t ULEZ compliant seems nonsense, but it’s meant a good buy and another perfectly serviceable vehicle kept on the road and not pointlessly scrapped, thank you Mr Khan.

So why was I giving Clumpy its annual service today? Sister in law has gifted the old thing to her son who is learning to drive at the moment, an ideal first car I would say. It’s been well looked after by yours truly since being in our custodianship and is in fine order for a good few year’s service yet I reckon, it uses no oil or coolant between its yearly service and has no corrosion bodily or underside, long live Clumpy!
