Had a few in the family during the 70's 80's. I always liked them - managed to bag a free one in that 'interesting' verona green shade some years back that had sat in a garage for 20 years. Towed it home with a 1.0 pug 205 lol.
 
It didn't run and the bulkhead was pretty bad shape. Tinkered with it for a bit Gave up and sold it on for a few quid and went back to my 99's. Pretty sure it was scrapped after that.
 

Had a few old Mercs, over the years. I was quite tempted by one of these once but then my cunt chav neighbour bought an 03 model, so think I'll be giving them a miss...lol

Still on the road!

Strong cars - my dads 1.8 auto was scrapped with 325K on the clock. Didn't need that much for MOT but got another car.

lexus is200 auto, 300000 miles no problems. Never had a fluid change either AFAIK. Still it was only a 4-speed and economy wasn't the best...was doing around 17mpg round town but  did have a slightly dragging caliper. Not very quick either, I now have a manual E36 316i and it feels almost as fast...

My '99 IS200, now gone and replaced with a bmw e36 316i.
 
abs light on but I reset code with a wire for the MOT, the rollers don't go faster than 5mph...

Noticed a rather mint 1996 MX5 merlot near me with 3500 miles on the clock!  So less than 200 per year, thought MX5's are for driving?? At least it's 100% rust free!

Great. I've just acquired a 280000 miles  Lexus IS200 auto for free. drives like it's done a fraction of the mileage. I'll see how it goes!

My '87 Saab 900 Turbo 16S, bought for a few hundred quid back in 2005, low miles and 1 owner from new. Sadly the gearbox started dying at 135000 miles due to over enthusiastic use of boost so I got rid.
 
Doubt I'll get another at the 5000+ a decent one goes for now.
 

people forget a typical leyland product would be rotten in 10 years or less. Sure plenty of mazdas are shot at 20+ years old but you can still find good ones- it's usually only the rear quarter that needs repair so not too bad to fix.
 
Mk2 is worse thanks to the front chassis rails hiding hidden rot.

I just by partworns, nearly always find something with 8 to 10mm left so basically new
