I hadn't spoke to my dad for a bit. Turns out the other month one of his neighbours came round and asked if they could borrow his early 2000s Sprinter for a few weeks - He uses it every day to do Yodel delivery so obviously he was a bit confused and said "well, no I use it every day"

Anyway, turns out this neighbour is a regional manager or something at Mercedes, and they wanted a tidy SWB sprinter to put in a lineup for a "20 years of the Sprinter" lineup at some event. So they lent my dad a brand new Sprinter for three weeks in exchange.
The best bit is when he got his old van back it had two brand new front doors on (the others had both been bashed in hit and runs) and the whole thing had been resprayed and all the missing/scuffed bits of trim inside and out had been replaced, and the whole van totally detailed like a new one.

I'm yet to see it, but my dad is absolutely over the moon - He loved that van and he deserves a bit of good luck more than anyone really, he was gutted when it got ran into because it was otherwise mint.

Yesterday I had a beautiful woman sat on my lap jiggling about in a most acceptable manner. She whispers in my ear that she has a latex allergy just in case I've any plans for Friday.

5 minutes later the vulcan display started. I felt quite the winner!

The Astra is doing sterling duty as a tip car/workhorse. With the back filled with hedge and rubble and scrap wood on the roof rack I can't think of another car that would do the job better for the same cheap price. Even gets 43mpg with short stop start journeys. My reasoning/man maths is that the car has cost me a couple of skips full of waste and will take far more than that throughout the next 12 months. Also helps to have a back up car in case my Alfa decides to become all Italian on me.

I know Land Rovers 'mark their territory', but the puddle of oil under my Discovery had got to the state where I was fearful of a US invasion.

The problem was traced to the vacuum pump - the rivets that hold it together had apparently worked loose and it was pissing out oil. Fucksticks!

New OEM pumps are about £110, and even crappy Britpart ones are £60, so I drilled out the rivets, cleaned up the rubber seal & mating surfaces, applied a bead of silicone sealant & replaced the rivets with M5 bolts.

    Finished product:

Re-fitted it & tested it - brake servo works fine, no leaks

I love how this interesting car turns up regularly on ebay, is it that it never sells, or do successive buyers realise what they have done and stick it back up for sale?

2.4 diesel 159 with autobox and 190,000 miles on it. I've a feeling if you bought this you'd come out one day and there'd just be thousands of springs lying in the road, stuck in hedges and wedged up cats arses from when the gearbox has exploded. Looks nice though!

ZOMG Twin Plenum Vitesse with a load of new bits for £4250. That's a good price if it's not rotten.
Fuck. I could buy this but I promised myself no more old crocks until I deal with the current set.

I wish I had a quid for every time I have seen this bollocks repeated in a Fiat 130 advert:

"The engines in these were based on the Ferrari Dino engine"

No. This is a Fiat engine.

It was the Fiat Dino that had the Ferrari Dino based engine.

    Pedant mode = off

Gorgeous looking thing though, even in Popemobile White.

This one sold on ebay a few weeks ago for about 300 I think. I have a diesel lump sat here if anyone fancies making a miserable car even more miserable !!. If the floors are rotten you can bet money on the subframe being shot as well, but you can still buy them new in France for about £300. Left hand drive headlights are fine for them as well due to having an adjustable bulb holder which lets you swap left to right hand dip.
