Six Cylinders Motoring Notes - Saying goodbye to a fleet member!
Essex V6 and 10 others reacted to Six-cylinder for a topic
It has been a great first day of 2023 for car stuff. It was Stony Stratford New Years Day Classic event where the whole town is shut down for cars from 1900 to late model super cars along with Military vehicles, bikes and other odd things like tractors. Getting up at 7am this morning seemed tough but the reward was a ride in ianbmw's Opel Monza GSE. Knowing there was also a chance I could drive the Monza home as Ian had his company prize Porsche 924S already there on show to be given away later in the year. Because I am unlikely to see the 924S again but the Monza is Ian's and local when I was offered the choice of driving the 924S or the Monza I requested Porsche. For extra greatness of the day I have got to keep the 924S until tomorrow. I left home this morning in @Andyrew Astra and returned in the Porsche 924S, I had to reassure Mrs6C this was a temporary situation and I had not purchased a car on day one of 2023!11 points -

One's a slow, old fashioned way of getting about suitable for old duffers who smell of wee. The other is a bus. 20 minutes and maybe 4 miles later, it decided it was time to stop for the day. To be fair, it's the only time it's done that since owning it, so can't complain too much. A passer by (out with his family and they had the same dog as ours!) was a Honda CB250 G5 owner and helped to try and bump start it, but it wouldn't have it. CBA walking home to get the van to come back, so pushed it the 2.5 miles back. Wasn't much of an effort luckily. Anyhow, put a spare plug in (the one in it was sootier than a black labrador that'd been coal mining for the last 15 years) and it fired straight up. Lesson learnt: carry a spare! Flushed with success at getting the Yamaha going again, I pulled the BSA stationary engine out and had a better go at starting that. Topped the fuel up, meddled round with the thing and after a replacement plug was found, it started first pull! No video (can't upload on here) but it sounded great11 points -

So today I've spent the morning working on the Cavalier trying to remove most of the door damage. They were never going to be perfect as there's creasing in the swage line but they're a lot straighter than they were. I am quite impressed at the thickness of steel used in them. They certainly took some welly to get them moving.10 points -

I've been sorting through the loft for boxes of toy model cars and found some that I really like.. I may have posted this before, it's a 1/43 (maybe) Hot Wheels. It originally had all the Boss 302 stickers which were printed on clear vinyl and they discoloured and I pulled them off and binned them, but wish I had them still now... The shape of it is just right and I love the rear window louvres... Bonnet, boot and doors open... Did they make many in this series? Next up a Burago 1/24 scale Fiat 124 Abarth... Roof, bonnet and boot were white* which I didn't like and painted black. Looks much better... *Edit; I think they were actually yellow yuck! Opening boot, bonnet and doors, always a disappointment if they don't on large scale... Late to the party with a Corgi C111... There was some talk about the Corgi Mk3 Cortina, I've just noticed mine is actually signed by Graham Hill, result! Was there something about headlights? Is thsi good or bad? Corgi 2CV, I bought two of these and the other I converted into a van painted cornflower blue, this is still in box with Woolworth's price sticker... Looks like the Marathon Hunter has just biffed the roo... The wheels on this 350SL in fact not just them, but the detailing generally is superb... 911 Targa, I also have green one, but engine (bonnet or boot?) lid is missing and I cut the targa roof off... Corgi Lamborghini Miura with hole in windscreen from when it went under the settee, pretty sure I wasn't upset at all... Did they actually make any with "golden jacks"? The Dinky TR7 is really nice, I love the look of it as a model even though I'm not a fan of the real thing... Welly Aldi Titty looks great as well, I recon these 1st gen cars will start to go up in value soon (IRL not Welly obv)... EP3 R by New Ray, not a great model, but I still really like it for some reason... Well I really enjoyed that, hope you're not all too bored by it...9 points -
Ive been to see this today as its literally a stones throw away from my house so close i could probably push it home if it wasnt at the bottom of a hill https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/583799510251469/ It started on the first turn of the key when ran on an external tank the engine and box seemed good. Its got a Spanish transmission so that kinda rules me out as i can only drive Automatico but id really like to save/restore it. Unfortunately the rear arches are rather crispy and theirs a hole in the front passenger footwell/floor plan where it looks like a jack has gone through. The interior is very good though not even the headliner is sagging and its looks to be complete i would probably give it a shot if i could weld but i cant. Tax disc said 1995 so i assume thats when it was last on the road am going back tomorrow with the Mrs to have another look so il take some photos and post them here somebody really should rescue it.8 points

Mebetoys. This is the only pre-Mattel era one I've found, a Maserati Mistral Coupe This was the first one I found, by accident really on eBay and bought it without knowing anything about them at the time - Lotus Europa Last of the really great era examples in my collection is this Chevrolet Astro II Concept As time went on, the quality decreased but they were still pretty good Later on it all went a bit cheap and nasty, but I still can't help buying them I've got plenty more unboxed ones tucked away. The takeover did lead to some other interesting things, such as Mebetoys branded Hot Wheels; But what I'd really love to get my hands on one day, are some of the larger scale versions of classic Hot Wheels produced during this period by Mebetoys; @FakeConcernif you ever decided to sell that Mustang...6 points -

Get it bought. Give the welding a go, by sounds of it be a useful skill to have if you are around old cars. Even a cheap shit one will stick two bits of metal together to a satisfactory standard.6 points

Six Cylinders Motoring Notes - Saying goodbye to a fleet member!

Motorbikes Mrs6C is getting quite anxious about my nasty habit of buying broken mopeds! So what have we got intended for field use: 1984 Honda Vision 2000 Peugeot Elyseo 50 2012Direct Bikes ZN125 black Direct Bikes ZN125 pink 2010 Yamaha Aerox 50 1974 Velosolex 5000 2013 e. Moto by All Seasons Electric assist bike (This is not mine but still seems to count against me) Bikes intended for Road use 1979 Peugeot 103 2003 Aprilia Habana 125cc We now have 9 bikes and none of them work! I think early next 2023 we will have to hold a FoD gathering to get some working, as most of us enjoy a ride around on an old moped.6 points -
Then it went and snowed which was mildly annoying. Boris came with a pair of pattern part A posts that were stamped ''Henric" who I think we're a Minor parts supplier from back in the 80's alas like the drivers side one previously this passenger side one was way out on its hinge mounting holes alignment to fit as a complete panel but I was able to use it bottom couple of inches to tie the A post to the outter sill. Now the A post is hopefully still in the right place (won't know until I hang the door again) I could deal with the rot/missing inner arch and inner wing. At this time of year when I start late and I am loosing the light i have been known to slip in to "bish, bash, bosh, that'll fecking do mode"so while it's not overly pretty the inner arch has been reinstated. Before adding this panel I painted everything I couldn't later get to with lashings of zinc paint. I have been using 1.2mm Zintec steel for any homemade repair patches,it's a bit too thick really but is lovely to weld with. Finally I just needed to plug weld on the A post/hinge closing panel,I had it all trimmed to size and prepped ready to go when I ran out of gas.. So that's where Boris and I are currently at until I can collect another cylinder of argoshield light next year. Can I just say a big thank you to anyone who has ticked a like box or added a random comment its been a crap year for sure i have lost my Father and Father in Law (not to mention two stinky mutts) it means a lot and helps keep me plodding along.6 points

Six-cylinder and 4 others reacted to brownnova for a topic
What shite projects do you plan to get done in ‘23? What shite do you aim to own this year? Do you have a particular event you are aiming for this year? For me: 2023 is the year I aim to get the Nova back on the road. Decided to commit some time and money to it to achieve that aim this year. Might mean a sale or two though. I also feel that 2023 is the year to finally scratch the Rover or Jaguar itches, never owned either. And/or maybe another hydropneumatic Citroen.5 points -

A New Year's Day anti-clockwise lap of Loch Lomond. I originally intended to go up Glencoe, but things were getting sketchy before I even got as far as Crianlarich. I definitely did not exit any laybys in 2nd gear with the speedo reading 50mph, officer. Nope. Not me... I also reckon my camera is getting a bit tired. These were both taken with the ISO down at 200 and they're still a bit noisy. Hmmm.5 points -

uk_senator and 3 others reacted to Split_Pin for a topic
No concrete plans as such, I'll keep and maintain what I have until something jumps out at me. The Cavalier is on SORN but MOTd until October so as soon as the weather improves I'll get that back out. Its ready to roll. I think I will be looking to change the brown 93 at some point after I've got it MOTd. My wife really likes it but she fancies a change. A TT is top of the list, followed by a Mercedes convertible of some sort.4 points -

@AndyW201: Yes, that's essentially correct. The Motoring Memories Cortina was yellow, the bronze one is from A Century Of Cars, the Hachette partwork from a few years ago, of which I have almost the whole set (delivery became patchy and unreliable towards the end). These were the same car, which was a simplified version of the old Corgi casting, hence being a two-door. Vanguards then produced a four-door which appeared in many liveries including several police offerings. Curiously, I don't remember seeing it as a taxi, despite riding in many in the 70s. @sutty2006: Go for it! Restoring is fun, and if they're playworn enough to qualify then you can't hurt the value as they're already worthless. And it means you can have liveries that Corgi or Dinky never offered, but which might be realistic, such as my now-beige Corgi Jaguar 2.4. ETA a little tip: start with one (or more) of the older, simpler castings such as the aforementioned Jag, or the likes of a Dinky Austin Devon or Hudson Commodore. No opening doors and bonnets to deal with!4 points -

On To 2023 We still have quite a fleet to maintain in spite of this year’s sales which will keep me pretty busy. Then we move onto the new targets for 2023. I plan to hold quite a few FoD events and maybe I should focus each one on a particular car. Requests to come and work on particular cars will be accommodated when ever possible. Targets for driving next year 2023 · 1976 Opel Manta · 1974 Saab 95 · 1994 Cadillac Eldorado Touring Coupe · 1983 Citroen LNA · 1993 Renault Safrane 3.0 RT · 1976 Vanden Plas 1500 · 1974 Peugeot 504 Cabriolet · 1993 Vauxhall Carlton 2.0i Club Estate · 1985 Range Rover The never ending Job list for 2023 without listing all the normal services and MOTs we will achieve. Some other maintaince/improvements I would like to achieve in 2023 Lancia Trevi 2.0 – more rust treatment, not to repair it just to stop it getting any worse Fiat Seicento – fit new os front wing Mercedes 230TE – replace rear suspension arms MG Metro – Head gasket (has small oil leak) Xantia Activa – adjust suspension level Carlton 2.0i Estate – head gasket Vauxhall Royal – start for the first time BMW 330Ci – start it Alfa 156 – Front spring? Citroen CX – buy donner spares car Volvo V70 T5 – engine warning light Visa Cabriolet – weld boot hinges Citroen AX – touch up paint marks Alfa Giulietta – start BMW 3.0S – knock rust bubbles back and rust proof Peugeot 504 – make run Bedford CF – start Triumph Vitesse – rebuild gearbox VP 1500 – weld ready for Allegro gathering in May Herald 1200 coupe – start Saab 95 – Refit engine, replace fuel tank, rebuild brakes Peugeot 404 – sort the lights, tidy the appearance from 10 feet4 points
