Downtime today 26th October
privatewire and 54 others reacted to Stanky for a topic
Hi All, As you may have noticed we had some issues today. These were mostly my fault. The recent picture upload issue was due to the site running out of storage. In an attempt to increase the storage on the primary disk partition I managed to megab0rk it, and was compounded by network interface problems when the server was restarted. We've been working to restore things since ~14:00 today and have now been able to restore back to midday today. Sorry for any lost posts, this was absolutely not my intention. There is quite a bit more work to do in the background but we're up and running again, I'll announce here any further maintenance or downtime as we make some fixes to improve things in the background. I went out last night with a mate and put some good miles on it over some good roads (finally stopped raining). The difference is very impressive. The ride is still very comfortable and progressive, but the body control is much better and it corners really quite flat. I've currently only gone up 1 from full soft on the teles at the back and two quarter turns away from full soft atvthe front so I've lots of adjustment left. What I really don't want to do is make the ride harsh so I'll play around for a good compromise but so far I'm bloody impressed.6 points

https://youtu.be/CAIq20Lptg0 this is one i had today two women, i'd say in their late 60s in the car.....couldn't get it into gear, i suspected the clutch has gone anyway, look at all the people who just drove round them......they'd been there for 10 minutes at that point sorry the camera cut off, but i helped them and pushed them to the side of the road i feel quite bad as i didn't have a tow rope in the car, as i'd have towed them to the halfords autocentre down the road to get it sorted but i feel quite good about it i mean seriously, does no one help anyone? it took me a few minutes and honestly, why wouldn't you5 points

Six Cylinders Motoring Notes

Last drive of the Seicento today before it was put away in storage for the winter. It was not an expensive car so using it through the winter makes sense, but I think I like it a bit too much and want to protect it! With the help of @Slowsilverwe started and moved 11 cars out of the barn, then repositioned them for a game of sardines. Now we have room for 3 more and a small one. Also we checked the antifreeze in several cars, road tested the E Type as it spat some water out last time. I got it nice and hot and not a drop of water was spilt so all seems well. (sorry I forgot my phone this afternoon so no pictures)4 points -

The XM is home with a fresh MOT. Auto gear selector is much better but still a bit stiff and needs a new cable, but I can't find one. Non working left indicator dash warning light turned out to be the connector on the back of the instrument cluster. Plug cleaned and wedged into place we will see how long it lasts. The XM was put straight back to work in its role as one of the dailies. I gave it a jet/brush wash in Tescos but the bush is so worn I missed lots of it.4 points -

It's back together, so the logical move now is to take it apart again. Wait, there's method to my madness... I've drained some coolant in taking off that rusty pipe, so I may as well drain the lot. I've got a new wasserpumpe to go on, which requires cam belt off, which I've also got. No idea when it was last done. As luck would have it, the stars have aligned and the engine is at or near the timing marks so that's the universe's way of telling me I should do it now.4 points

I absolutely have to recount a story from many years back: Walking into town at lunchtime from college in about 1992, saw a husband-and-wife combo trying to tow a Rover 800 with a Skoda Estelle. The lady hadn't a clue what she was doing and he was even worse (as he thought he knew, but blatantly didn't). There was a mass of slack in the rope, which wasn't taken up gently.. the Lady driving the Skoda just pulled away as normal. When the rope went taught it jerked the Rover forward about 500mm, and proceeded to rip the nearside driveshaft out of the Skoda, as they'd used that as the anchor point. Both vehicles came to a very undignified stop. I looked on, pulled a "oooh, that's not good" face, and kept walking. The ensuing argument behind me was probably audible for about 3 miles around. Still makes me wince to think of the force needed to pull a driveshaft clean out of a car!4 points

You can see what you have saved by going into account settings and also can organise by size. Looking through mine, there is all sorts and it's easy to forget how much some stuff can take. Especially in an age of high speed internet and (nearly) unlimited storage. E.g. how about a 17mb gif of my cat chasing her tail that I must have posted quite a while ago.3 points -

Much of the filming for this episode of "The Baron" was carried out around where I live, near Elstree. A few years ago I revisited many of the places and made a small YouTube film of my escapades, using my (then) brown Daf 33 in place of Cordelia's Daffodil. (Anorak mode ON) The Daffodil featured in the series was supplied by Daf U.K. to the T.V. company, and was a Daffodil L.E. (luxe extra) which had a wood veneer dashboard and extra fog and spot lamps. This batch of cars bore registrations GLX 280-289 C (Anorak mode OFF) and I need to get out a lot more.....3 points -

Ooooh K616PHS is a weird one and its not alone either in that reg block! K612PHS (an escort) is exactly the same, in that both produce a positive result but with not really any DVLA data in them both are VIN Number "UNKNOWN"! with no colour data or any other such data, just a Reg number, make model and date of first registration thats it K621PHS (an Orion) is very similar, but I DO get a VIN number for it at least but its not a full 17 digit number id expect from a vehicle of this age BTW @egg I was chassis number bashing from K606PHS, in the hopes to see if I could find K616PHS's number, still researching that but just now I came across K27USD which is SORN!, perhaps one for your list? although its not had a keeper change or even fresh V5 issued since 20023 points -
