After Sunday's shite in the park we went to see a BX I'd enquired about over the weekend. I didn't end up buying it but Ged did and I drove it back to the unit. It seems to go well enough although I was scared to drive it too hard as it had been off the road for a while and fuel gauge was either at zero or inoperative. It goes up and down fine too. It's had a wee bump on the rear corner but damage looks superficial.16 points -

That went bloody well apart from my Ferex multi tool just died but luckily I had the Dewalt cordless car boot special to save the day. Was actually really simple. As per pics, cut a hole roughly in the middle, felt with my hand where the edges of the window cut would be - luckily pretty much bang on with the edge of a cladding slat. Did the same for each edge just making the hole bigger each time. I now just need to clean all the shit out, hoover the area I’ve cut to get all the loose kingspan out then do a final trim cut on the edges as I only did it by eye so it’s not going to be dead straight. Once I’ve fitted the window I’ll get some nice wood and make a box frame to slot in, that way I’ll have a window ledge, somewhere to mount a curtain and it’ll look neat. Well chuffed, multi tools are the one.10 points

I'm proud as punch today, daughter number 2 passed her driving test at the first attempt. Felt so sorry for her when the world went to shit during the lockdowns, but she kept plodding along with it. Currently around a 6 month wait for tests round our way. If you see an 09 plate bronze Suzuki Swift round Derby with a teenage girl grinning from ear to ear, that will probably be her! Only another 13 months to go till son number 1 turns 17 so I can go through it all again. I must know every inch of Asda and B&M's carpark by now 😂.7 points -
Ruffgeezer's Repairs... (Tales from an ex-mechanic) 23/04/2024 V70 cold starts a bitch.
Coprolalia and 6 others reacted to ruffgeezer for a topic
So the plan for the floor... A lot of the foam padding from under the carpet had been eroded by big boots and heavy soiling from aggregates and farm dirt. In places this was over an inch thick, more than is usually available from carpet shops, but they do keep a rather dense foam underlay... a bit more excavation of the old underlay and a bit of cutting down gets the first layer in; The top coat of the old floor has cratered up where it has worn through, so next was to trim the edges back and start building the various profiles found here originally. I think there are about 4 layers in places stuck together with carpet glue and to their surroundings (and my hands, the pedals, the scissors and anywhere else that a wonky nozzle could conceivably squirt) Lastly, a layer of this incredibly sticky, thick black tape that I happen to have. A whole roll was used here, the plan was never to hide the repair (obviously) but to remove the horrible void feeling under the pedals that even the thickest mat wouldn't hide. Lastly, I rescued these from the scrappy yesterday amongst other small items, which once spruced up will finish the job nicely. So not far from @paulplomand @beko1987's suggestions, and still cheaper than replacing the whole floor. The Eagle eyed of you might spot the door mirror control switch has reappeared, one of those definitely didn't pop off of a full switch pack and fall into my bag of bits. Certainly not. Fitted nicely too. That's all of the MOT fails fixed and all of the advisories bar the slight play in the steering UJ. Re-test by the end of the week.7 points -

The screen was replaced on the Senny today and thankfully, the fitter was an experienced guy with a good sense of humour and we had a good chat. Took about an hour and a half all in and I’ve left a 5 star review: Not having the chrome trim isn’t that noticeable now so I’m very happy with the result. Bonus vid with wipers and headlamp wipers in action for those like @dollywobbler : IMG_2950.MOV Did some arch fillering afterwards, more flatting and a bit of stopper next I think: Not a bad day off!6 points -

The Civic has been doing admirably. I think I drive it faster than the BMW due to being less precious about it... It's been making some impressive compressor stall the past few days on some full throttle gear changes. I'm sure it's fiiiine, right...? Our resident tame welder currently has the BMW and has been digging into the rear jacking points, finding just how borked they really are... It's still worth it though! Anyway, I just spent 3 nights at a farm near Plockton, now I'm on my second night near Thurso. Tomorrow I drive down to Aberdeenshire then work on the Civic's rear brakes... I even got to hand feed raccoons at the farm;5 points -
Still here, still fixing broken bits, still hoping it will all be over soon! I have been busy looking up sources for parts for the next 3 projects but cannot order anything as I need to check part numbers and the old bits are a long way away! Today, one of the crew had to go home in a hurry, so we had a paraffin budgie on deck. Whilst we are fully equiped for these occasions, it is actually a rare event as crew changes are planned around port calls, and any emergency parts tend to be taken to the platform by either supply boat or chopper depending on urgency them craned onboard. Apologies for the rubbish photos, but taken as screen grabs from the vessel system.5 points

I'm getting a bit excited about models of the Simca/Chrysler/Talbot 1307/8/1510/150/Alpine and I'm waiting for my Mira example to arrive in the post. I bought an absolutely delightful Joal model from someone on here about 3 years ago (can't remember who now). I had just dug out my Solido example and noticed that they looked very similar. So similar, that one is undoubtably a copy of the other: Only the door mechanism differs: I think the Joal is the copy as the casting is a wee bit rougher. However the superior tyres and true to scale suspension deflection makes it one of my favourites. I also love that it's painted up like its 1991.4 points

All Japanese catalysts are more "valuable" to the thieves, as the Japanese environmental standards are higher than European ones-hence the better made catalysts. While on the subject, may I pose this hypothetical question: My Subaru has a keyless ignition system and I keep the keys in both a Faraday bag AND in the microwave at night. Furthermore, I've fitted a battery lock that prevents the car from being started without the bolt being replaced, which involves opening the bonnet, all of which would make quite a lot of noise and delay a potential thief. However, given my penchant for all things electrical, I don't think it'd be too difficult to wire the car's central locking and electric windows in such a way that when the 25 amp fuse pops, totally disabling the car, they'd lock and prevent the thief from opening the doors. On my driveway this is legal (an Englishman's home is his castle etc.) but if parked on the public highway I'm not so sure...... I suppose fitting a small auxiliary pump (maybe an old screen washer one) to simultaneously spray petrol onto the thieves through the facia vents would be going too far, wouldn't it (or would it....?) Sorry to have gone on a bit!3 points -

After three and a quarter years I decided it was time to get the tracking done on the 205 so I took it to the local tyre place to get it sorted. While I was there I had a few people asking me about it and the usual 'I haven't seen one of those for ages' comments. It feels a lot better now that it's been done. I also bought an oil filter for the Saxo on the off chance that I might give it an oil change.3 points -

Its a nightmare when Facebook reminds me of LBF! Buckingham Car Boot Rachel Bezdek · · Our warehouse has relocated and we kept behind anything that had 20 or less in stock . So looking to sell as one whole job lot, great potential to make some cash in selling on. Everything pictured, worth over £4,000 Also included is lots of PLL, PLC, PLS and PLT lamps which are being phased out in March, so if you’re lucky enough to have stock of these you could make some good money. Welcome to come and have a look. Located at The lightbulb company 41 Murdock Road Bicester OX26 4PP3 points

Wow, that’s another six months without the R19 having done anything. It keeps getting covered in pine needles, therefore every so often I brush them off and very occasionally I’ll wipe all the grime off the windows. Today was different, I did both of those things, then (after a quick charge in the garage) chucked the battery on and ran the engine for a bit. This required directing a bit of lubrication at the choke cable, which had become rather stiff and is also missing its knob making its shaft difficult to pull out (fnarr). Then ran it round the block to make sure the brakes aren’t seizing on or whatever. One of my friends has made the mistake of asking if I had an old banger in stock that he can use while on holiday here next month, so it looks like the n-n-n-n-19 is getting pressed back into service soon! I still haven’t done owt about the play in the steering rack or the non functioning indicators, hopefully the latter is something simple like a busted relay.3 points -

Sorry if someone has already posted this, but it's such a good video. It's also a relic of the days when tractors were relatively inexpensive and farms employed quite large numbers of (often mixed ability) drivers. Most modern farms are run by a skeleton staff or even a single individual and tractors now cost as much as a house.2 points -
