  2. It’s all the money , but look at it. The Gordini I had at 19 would see off 3 litreCapris , although it very rarely completed a journey without a fuelling problem, I actually bought a TL identical to this to do a carb conversion- of course it never happened and both ending up getting scrapped, probably why there’s not many around now . https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RENAULT-17TL-COUPE/313420469818?_trkparms=aid%3D1110006%26algo%3DHOMESPLICE.SIM%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20131231084308%26meid%3Daa83737c28674bc79e866c0f51c28ee0%26pid%3D100010%26rk%3D5%26rkt%3D12%26mehot%3Dpp%26sd%3D203265955320%26itm%3D3

  5. Absolutely bloody glorious. I have no idea 1. How I'd move it (no axles, no motor) 2. What I'd use it for 3. What it's worth (£123456) But it looks amazing and looks like it ought to be useful for something. Perhaps as a garage for a Mini?! https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/220419266445398/?ref=null&referral_code=undefined

  9. OK. Mrs SL used it to sway me when we first looked at the house and I wasn't otherwise hugely impressed - for some reason it didn't fully register with me. When she sees what's in there now I think she sometimes regrets her persuasion..... It's basically a 35x14' building at the bottom of the garden that was used by the previous owner as a joinery workshop. Mrs and Miss SL have the end bay of around 7' as a studio (simply because that's where the wall was before he extended it, not me being grossly unfair), the rest is what you see above. Mrs SL remind

  10. Fuelling mystery solved. Well, half solved. I'd ascertained that the fuel pump was very weak which was part 1. Part 2 however was that even with a known good electric pump fitted the carb was really reluctant to fill the float bowl. Pulled the top properly off the carb so I could examine it closer. With the needle valve removed I figured it out pretty quickly. Sitting in there is this little ball. Which I assume should form a check valve to stop fuel draining back to the tank. However it's missing a spring...so instead was just sitting on the fuel inlet port

Up for another edition of 'Why did they model that?' with my latest purchase? Politoys M-533, the OSI Fiat 1200S coupé. A little gem of a model with four opening flaps, jeweled front lamps, red plastic rear lamps, detailed engine, even a separate chromed fuel filler cap, tilting seats, even model-specific steel wheels and hubcaps. It's a stinker of a day here today, so these photos don't really show up the lovely metallic green/blue paint. Another winning casting from this incredible time for Italian diecast, with no effort at cost-cutting. So, what is it? Well, Off

Now, those who have visited here will realise that it is a rare occurrence when pitch dark and 8pm. Gets up, looks out the window to see a gentleman with a torch shining on his "Police" badge on his uniform. Of course, my first thought is what have I done now? Quick conversation and it turns out some people had got lost in the forest behind me (out for exercise in daylight and taken the wrong path) and police had told them to m

  14. Update. Adding another couple of gallons of fuel...simple right up till this happened. Which happened because... The tank is full! Despite the claims of the gauge, which never moves from the stop. So either the sender or gauge is duff. Hopefully the sender as a replacement for that is likely to be far easier to source. Gauge has never moved here here at all. With fuel delivery behaving itself and the engine properly up to temperature I was able to tweak the idle down to a slightly more sensible level, think it was sitting at about 1800rpm before.

  15. Where did I leave this? 306 is still soldiering on, it’s a good car that. Seems to be making a bit of a drone from the offside front so maybe the other bearing needs doing; nothing much to report though! The Dolomite had some overheating issues and we swapped out the radiator for a different one from a larger engined version. This seemed to make no difference either way but highlighted that the pipe from the thermostat to the inlet manifold wasn’t getting warm. Changed that and, er, left the car on the drive for a bit. Should probably give it a run and see what happens. Now, I’v

Now taxed and tested (it was on disabled tax, so I’ve had to sort that out at the post office and tax it for 6 months 🙄) The invoice had a link to photos of a sort of live action photo shoot

  17. Yup, one day. I have in mind them stacked on an overgrown bit of ground at the back of a garage building. The latter would be a cutaway, so a lift or two and WIP/finished cars could be displayed. I need to learn some weathering techniques first. I ended up watching this the other night: Looked fantastic. I wouldn't do something that extensive at 1:24 (it'd be huge!) but it certainly gave me something to think about.

  21. I actually did something on one of my classics today- that being exhume my orange Mini from it's garage (been there since October) and drive it, wash it and top up the levels! I couldn't believe it, but it started after 20 seconds of churning on the starter, after sitting for 5 months?! I didn't even disconnect the battery. Amazing. All you need is 1960s technology, right? Might risk taking it to work tomorrow.

  25. As a change from the sporty and modified cars, it's 18th January 1968 and the introduction of the new Ford Escort 1100 Super. 53 years ago ! With a 4.11 diff and 12 inch wheels it did 25mpg at 70mph. Overall mpg, 27.6, for a 49.5bhp car. 1100 estates and vans were probably worse as they had a 4.44 diff ratio. The 1100 engine really did have to work hard. Inflation multiplier 1968 to 2020 is around 17.5. Thanks to Trigger for original scan.

  29. Yeah, was very much running out of daylight by that point, will have another shot at it shortly. Trying to decide which job to tackle next on the BX. Fuel pump is scheduled to be here Thursday, so probably pull the carb and see if I can sort the accelerator pump. Oil change is waiting on the correct filter arriving - nowhere locally could source one so I had to resort to eBay. Hoping once the fuel pump is changed, if I can also get the carb fully behaving that will get the car *running* reasonably well. Then I'll feel more free to tackle the less fundamental but more involved jobs

Yup, a 1/24 scrappie would be phenomenal, but would certainly need some space to do it right! Brilliant video, that - and I only discovered last week that Everard Junction and Triplerich of this parish are one and the same person... Mind blown. Still, when you look at the Granada resto thread and then the 00 gauge scrapyard, you can see the same attention to detail throughout. Well worth a look, if you haven't watched it!

We had an iron that worked fine except for a mains lead - frayed to fook. Mentioned this to my dad who told me had kept the lead from an old iron and I should swap it. I fitted new lead and fuse promply blew. My dad had chucked out a perfectly good iron - and kept the part of it that was fucked.

I don't have a pic of his Mexico as the photo album is at their place, I'll try and dig it out next time I'm there, must scan that album in one day. What a gorgeous machine. He sold it around 1985, it lasted until 1991 when it sadly caught fire while having the floors welded, dad got a letter from the next owner telling him what had happened. Doesn't have a scrapped marker on it, but hasn't surfaced since 91 so assume it's long gone by now 😢 Shame really, could probably have still been around today otherwise, as the following owner was cle

  42. So just before becoming seriously ill with Covid I spent a wad on a hopeless case car which turned up the day before I went rapidly downhill. I used the proton as a winch anchor and it wasn't as grounded as the skoda untill the hedge started getting involved. So its a 1982 skoda 120LSE 'top of the range!' It came with 4 siezed wheels, engine, loads of rust and a smashed windscreen which I suspect was a garage roof coming down on it. Easy job to take the screen out and clean up the glass. Loads of vacuuming later improved matters a tad. N

I used to drive a early 90s Trafic 1.4 Hi-top for work back around 1997/8. It was absolutely woeful. We got it secondhand from a pig farmer and it absolutely stank - the ply lining got ripped out and burned within hours. All the rear bumpers were missing, as were the door locks. Obviously this heap was seen as fit to carry the company’s livery and was quickly pressed into action delivering washing machines etc. We once got a bulk deal from Hotpoint on a load of WMs and they delivered the lot in one hit on a large lorry. We didn’t have room at the stores for them (excellent p
