  1. Quick update on this, not a lot is happening TBH mainly due to abysmal weather and also all my spare time is being used up renovating the bathroom in my house. Thats nearly finished though thankfully. One bit of actual news is that the truck is now back on its wheels, sitting on springs that give more or less the right ride height. I took the 'new' springs to Midland Motor springs in Notts and asked them to increase the camber from 3.5" to 5.5". They did that, charging me £150 for the job. I then brought the springs home and waited till @cobblers was really desperate for his axle st

  4. Thank fuck the weather has remained ideal for finishing this thing and not a mixture of rain, snow and freezing fog.... Oh wait. Now back to functioning as An Car, just needs some fuel hoses for the tank breather system and the handbrake adjusting before work tomorrow and I can drive it to the MOT station. There is still a bit to do, interior and trim needs a massive clean and fitting, a few panel gaps need tweaking, wheels need painting and the FUBAR bumpers replaced but the big stuff is hopefully done...

  6. Has anyone ever heard of this 800? I saw something mentioning it on Fa**b**k, but can't find much about it on the 'net at all. It looks to have raced in the late 80s to mid 90s. and was supposedly an impressive racer at the time. The fella who posted the photo stated: 'Rover 800 pro mod race car from back in the 80's 90's in full police livery, even the lights etc worked. I think it was a strong race car and ran sub 9 sec standing quarter mile times. I think it was based in Yorkshire and did attend public liason events with the police and was a favorite when it raced at Yor

  8. Thanks. I wrote yesterday off almost completely, drove a lot of trucks, a few trains and today got things back together again. CONTAINS SPOILERS - if you're a video fan and want to wait for the vids, stop reading. Refitted the exhaust, got the 2CV out of the way and used TWC for a post run. Refitting the exhaust went fairly well now I've sussed the technique - in short, leave the manifold bolts loose and get the silencer on first! I had to swap out the throttle return spring as it's slacker than a daytime telly addict. Performance was pretty grim though, even more

    Boris the '59 Minor.

While it's too wet outside to do any Minor work i have decided to look at making good the drivers door. For a sixty year old bit of tin its not in bad shape the rot in the base is most likely been caused by rain water passing down inside the door due to worn out window seals and blocked drain holes. I cut out the worst of the grottiness and tacked in a new piece on the doors base. Then fannyed about letting in bits of fresh metal which took an utter age and looked a bit pants too but once a bit of filler is added i thought it would turn out ok.

  11. Im getting worried about what an incredibly grumpy bastard Ive become. 1) I hate lycra clad cyclists. Its an irrational hatred borne about by a few who think that the highway code doesnt apply to them. If you are wearing normal clothes to ride I dont seem to have the same hatred towards you. Unless you are doing something dickish, like riding at night with no lights, wearing dark clothes, smoking a fag and having a conversation on your mobile. 2) I hate cyclists who have those fucking ridiculous retina burning stroboscopes attached to their bikes. I want to run them into a ditch.

  12. My grin is that I've finally manage to fix my central heating, its been playing up for months but completely conked out over xmas. Turns out that the source of the problem was a one way valve in the boiler which had failed so that water could only dribble through it (in either direction). No idea where to find another so I've just removed the internals and now the house is properly warm and the electric meter is cooling down.

  13. Today's thrilling* update, Fitted the sound deadening pads to the rear floorpans. Followed by some more insulation. And then the carpets. I also trial fitted a new gear knob, the original has lost its top,I bought this one from AliExpress, it's actually made of aluminium and the gearshift gaiter fits much nicer into it's extended base. The lower half was silver which I wasn't that happy with,so a squirt of black paint later it looks much better Seats next.

  18. Had the Focus in for front alignment and wheel balance yesterday. Was pre-booked for 8:30am, took them 6 hours.... just as well the garage was close to home. Anyway, to his credit the guy did spot one of the front pads had delaminated, so I had an afternoon of tinkering planned. Still wasn't happy with the holed and generally shagged drivers seat so decided to try another scrappy. Abbey Breakers in Paisley. Came away with a seat for £20 which I was very happy with. It's currently in the flat drying out.... A fine scene; Good selection; Was back home to start on

  19. tomorrow i am going to throw my notice in at work. i've been in the shit-can job for 10 weeks and i really fuckin' hate it, plus i really suck at it too! today it took me the better part of two hours to drive to the office, and got snide remarks for my apparent tardy-ness when i arrived. see all that rain we had last night? well north of Whitby, and above Sleight's, that rain was snow.... and i've got no choice but to drive that way. to get there! the others in the office drive something like 8 miles to get there, i'm doing the better part of 60, each way. all i'm doing with my

  20. Storm Christof killed another bit of our fence but it couldn't put water in the front of the Maestro. I might be able to put the carpets and sound deadening back in soon! There was barely any water in the boot either, so I think I must be getting close to solving this water ingress issue now. I wonder if it's that the Arbomast sealant has just sort of settled into wherever the voids were and whatever water was still stuck in the car has finally all drained out. One unfortunate thing has happened with the Maestro which is that I'm actually really enjoying driving it about and tinkering

Still looks like we could be a wee way from anything reopening, but I'm having a bit of a rummage through some of my model boxes and there could be some more items up for grabs that you ain't never seen before in the next week or so...

  22. TAT WEDNESDAY IS NOT DEAD Not when we have had a roving correspondent out in Belfast during the 4th quarter of 2020 ! A fella, who helpfully allows customers' boxes to accumulate way beyond their 'getting-too-heavy-to-send-at-once' stage (read: buyer's fault all along!) Look what the nice Young Post Man delivered on Tat Wed today. Believe it or not, he was in shorts too... cor. Cheers @Datsuncog ! Made my day, this stash of delights 😊 (Nice uplifting note too, thanks.)

  32. Today's exciting* endeavour was fitting up the front door cards. First apply the black sealant, Cut a piece of polythene sheet to size and stick it on. At this stage I decided to also fit the original one over the top. Patched up the damaged aera with some duct tape. Fit up the door card. And finally connect up and fit the new speaker grille. Happy with that. Time to repeat it all again on the other side. That'll do for today. Will try and get the carpet into it next.

  36. US Escorts were the base of two electric cars. Firstly I bring you the Jet Electrica The Jet Electrica was originally manufactured by Jet Industries of Austin, TX, which produced about 3,000 EV conversions while they were in business. Most Jets were based on Ford Escort and Mercury Lynx chassis purchased new as from FoMoCo as "gliders" (body and chassis without engines). To convert the Escort to electric, Jet mated a Prestolite 96v traction motor to the original Ford transaxle, fabricated battery boxes front and rear, and added a speed controller and an on-board battery charger.
