Carpet I didn't take pictures of the work in progress because the spray glue is like silly string and gets on everything, plus it was a three handed job keeping the carpet held up while trying to align and stretch it. I did the whole offside in one bit of carpet so it was pretty awkward. It's a really satisfying job though. The carpet has a lot of stretch and it's quite easy to get a good finish. The knack is to start from the centre of where you're working and push outwards, stretching it into every contour with the handle of a small screwdriver. I lifted the rub23 points

Copied from my Pandino 2019 trip: This was my car of the show though. Brought along by a mother/son team. The mum had owned it from new when her late husband bought it new as a temporary car whilst waiting for his company car to arrive. It was then passed to the mum, a lady originally from Portugal. Its a 1982 Panda 30 with the 2 cylinder air cooled engine as fitted to the 126. She drove it back to Portgual year on year with photo albums that she loves to show you. The albums are pure shite heaven! Pictures of it on the road before all the motorways existed and some amazing st15 points -
Insulation. As mentioned earlier, a van in the sun even in the north of Scotland turns into a tin oven and it can get pretty unbearable very quickly (especially when you can't open a window or door because of the midges!). I dread to think how bad it would get in the south of France. For that reason I think insulation is more important for keeping the heat out than keeping it in, although of course it does both. It's also important to stop condensation forming on the walls and roof, which will drip on you constantly / rot the van from the inside out. Ultimate Insulation Supplies in S15 points

Well my £4.27 eBay special GPS antenna arrived today, so this evening after work I went out and plugged it into the Rover's sat nav computer. That's a bit more like it. It took a while longer to lock onto the signal than the OEM antenna did when it was working, but then it's physically much smaller so that's understandable. I initially plonked it on the roof of the car (it's magnetic) with the wire running in through the tailgate window to give it as much chance of picking up a signal as possible - it took a few minutes to pick up the full complement of satellites and a bit l12 points -

As alluded to on the News 24 thread, I have managed to find myself another Rover as a daily. I got the call last week, so headed up there yesterday, armed with a jump pack as it had been standing for months. But I needn’t have worried, the seller already had it up and running. I took it for a run, it felt great, so I handed over a small amount of folding and drove away into the sunset in a fine piece of Ronda. So what have I bought? It’s a Rover 620 SI manual in Old Giffer Gold. It’s done 98k and has a reassuringly large amount of service history, old MoTs etc and two service books w9 points -
This is a broad church, right? Vans. I like driving with my elbow on the windowsill, being able to see over bridge parapets, being level with the folk at drive throughs, and generally having a nice view of everything. I like bullying owners of immaculate new Audis out of the way. I like having no centre mirror so that they just disappear when they aggressively tailgate me afterwards. I like big wing mirrors and being able to see the rear wheels when parallel parking. Hey gang, thought I’d do a thread on my newest acquisition, a 2006 Fiesta 1.25 Zetec Climate in Panther Black. Grab yourself a cup of tea or whatever you like and sit comfortably, this is a long story. I was looking for another car after making the decision my Mk7 Fiesta was a) boring as hell and 100% reliable and b) I was fed up with paying monthly for a car that I only realistically do around 40 miles a week in. It would be better for it to go to someone who would actually get some use out of it. So the hunt was on for something else. I first went to have a look at a8 points -

Nice, haven’t seen that one. There’s a handful around the Southend area. Lovely low mileage T reg BRG 618 just off Woodgrange Drive, local VOO reg with Lookers plates. A white V plate near the hospital. Another white V reg off Southchurch Road. And a pair of Nightfire Reds with personal plates, owned by the same bloke in Canewdon. I managed to find someone selling a pair of genuine NOS Rover front discs which I snapped up for £30 odd. However, looking online it looks an arse of a job to change them, so I’ve asked the local garage for a quote. In other news, I carefully scraped o8 points -

The upshot of the whole #vanlife thing with cute couples quitting the rat race and posing on top of their vans watching sunsets is that everyone wants to make a conversion, which is great. Except that now anyone flogging overpriced tat on eBay can add 'camper' to the keywords and sell it for three times as much. Bubble wrap? Camper insulation! 12v pc case fan? Camper ventilation! I'm not rich, I can't really afford to buy £400 of laminated ply to make some cupboards or blow a grand on a rock and roll bed. Day 3 of my 1 week Volvo makeover is now complete. Today was the day I'd been dreading- Changing all 4 doors. Getting the doors off was easy enough... Unfortunately this is where the problems began. Once I'd got the first rear door installed it was apparent that despite being connected properly neither the windows or the central locking worked... After some googling it became clear that all of the electronics in the doors are coded to each respective car. At this point, I swapped the entire loom/lock/module across but decided that given one door had taken hal6 points -

I'm not laughing. but my inexcusable, if perhaps explainable, inattention and my dear old car's unfailing ability to fuck up might give you a giggle. The BX went to the garage this morning because it had been making a hideous rumbling noise (from the front, or so I thought) which sounded like the mother of all wheel bearings about to explode. I got a phone call early this afternoon: "There's nothing wrong with the wheel bearings, the noise was one of the rear wheels that had worked loose. We sorted that, but then we had to push it off the ramp because it wouldn't start. The battery6 points -

Thanks to a couple of mates, we've managed to get the boot open on the Merc. The jump point was indeed on the driver's side (I hadn't spotted it as didn't pull carpet back far enough) so with the aid of some jump leads and a spare battery, we pressed the fob and got into the back to change the battery. Put a spare (weedier) battery on for the short term until the one in it is charged. It still wasn't enough to fire it up, but with the aid of the boost pack it started first turn.5 points
