Today has been a pleasant day of sorting through cosmetic items on the car with the other half. The final coat of black paint was put on the water pump and that was assembled to keep all the parts together. Thermostat housing is not bolted down properly yet, waiting on the new thermostat and gasket arriving. The through bolts for the water pump will be painted black before the unit is installed. I was going to paint the fan bolts after they were installed until I realised it would actually be easier to do it before by sticking them in a piece of cardboard to spray paint the19 points

While this will be beneficial to fuel economy and noise levels at motorway velocities, there was another driving force behind this course of action: A friend of the previous owner very kindly allowed the Panda to be stored on his big old country estate for a few weeks. This turned into a few months because Covid, but no serious grumbles resulted, and no demand for compensation was ever made. However, it was asked if these: Could be made available for his son to use on his car: PO couldn’t find the key to unlock the security end caps, so a pair to th12 points -

Finally got time to fit the wheels back on today after getting them back from the powder coaters. I went for the sparkle silver as the car's own metallic paint has a lot of metal fleck in it... However the super shininess of the wheels brought out how shite the wheel bolts were. Oh aye and I also highlighted the hub caps with a bit of silver paint. Will need to do a better job later... Options for wheel bolts are: 1 - New chrome ones 2 - New black ones 3 - New bare metal ones 4 - Wire wheel the old ones. Experimentation on a single wheel bol11 points -
Definitely hoping to put in an appearance at some point tomorrow afternoon. This afternoon I managed to get a good few hours in getting most of the to do list on the Trevi sorted. Initially it was refusing to idle again. Though I've definitely pinned down where it's getting clogged up, and it's in between the solenoid and the idle screw...so took them both out and blasted that through yet again...and so far it's behaved since so I might have got rid of the crud this time. Hopefully. Maybe. On to the tail lights. Getting into the nearside one was slightly awkward on account o11 points

Popped to the takeaway the other day and came away with more that just a 97a (Chung ying special fried rice) Bumped up into another customer (in shot and clearly thinking what is this guy up to) who had driven in in the Corolla. Needless to say I left him my number after he said they might sell in a few months...9 points -
Yesterday the Trevi was started up four times and driven three. It behaved on all of them. This morning, as I was planning to head back to its home with it...refused to idle again. Arse. I've now established that the issue is definitely in the drilling between the solenoid and the idle screw. So they were both removed and large quantities of carb cleaner were sprayed through. If my compressor wasn't currently dead I'd have blasted the hell of of it with compressed air. After a clean out again today it returned to being willing to idle. Still not running quite as well as yester8 points

Ever since I've owned this the front ARB bushes have looked a little perished, but never seemed to get worse or have any detectable play. I'm now questioning whether I have been able to apply enough force to satisfactorily check for play against the loading of the suspension! I'd noticed a clonk yesterday, so jacked it up to check, and I *think* I may have found the cause. Fortunately it's from an era where you can buy just the bushes rather than the whole link, and at £1.30 for a genuine VW bush I think I may splash out and do both sides.6 points -

We now come to LBF's pride and joy, the Invacar which has inhabited his thoughts and dreams - much to the chagrin of some on the Forum who thought that to have one obsession (with all things of an illuminatory nature) was unfortunate, but to have two looked like carelessness. When I arrived, @Mrs6Cwas seen messing with it up to her armpits. After a fashion, it agreed to start and run, though had to be eased from its resting place by traditional muscle power. Like everyone else, we were invited to have a go in it. I think I can say that the idea behind the controls is simple. That sa6 points -

I gave this thing a proper wash during the week. It comes up well but there's a few rust bubbles. The paintwork actually beads not too bad, it must've been waxed before it was put in the garage. So far everything works! I replaced the sunroof fuse and the fuse warning light on the dash went out. It definitely wants to live again ? First order of business-the brakes. The rear pistons were seized and it's still on its original steel lines. The plan is to replace the lot. I started at the master cylinder/abs unit end. 3 lines come out of here, one to each front wheel an6 points -
Looks like I'll have to eat my hat. New battery and new abs sensor resulted in no red lights. Now there are only a few insignificant error codes for lane departure warnings and TPMS. I can live wthout them, TPMS has been turned off with diagbox. Next thing is to fit some new tyres and put it in for a CT. I'm still not sure if it's an improvement over my XM. I'm keeping both until I decide, one has to go.6 points

I remember around 20 years ago, I was on a gap year from Uni and during the summer one of the other students had hired a field to organise a kind of mini festival. I went along with my girlfriend and a mate, who had borrowed his mum's J reg Clio for the trip, and who kindly offered to run me into town after I had exhausted my supplies of alcohol for the weekend (probably around 1900 on the Friday evening ) Being the chivalrous kind of gent I am, I let my girlfriend sit in the passenger seat while I squeezed in the back seat. Well it made it to the next town for an MOT test ? Actually drove quite nicely, got up to 50mph before catching up with a motorbike ? There's a noise like brakes rubbing which was really bad when I picked it up and was there a bit when I set off but seems to have gone. The gearbox has loosened up which is nice as you can tell you've found a gear now but feels more agricultural. I was going to come the long way via the lanes but fannyed about far too much and had to use the A road complete with steep hill which saw me down to 20mph although I think 30 would have been possible4 points
