  1. Found this photo up my mothers. It's around 1996. Shows me and my series 3G Interceptor. 6.3 V8. Wish I had kept it-but marriage and new house got in the way. Steve

    The new news 24 thread

Here's a story from the archives - retiring postman was able to take his van with him. When i was a kid, all the postvans were Renault 4s. None survived and by the look of this thing after doing less than 70k miles in 6 years in West Cork, its not surprising. A mate of mine's old man had a R4 id say in the mid to late 90s and it was in good nick, but none about these parts these days https://www.rte.ie/archives/2017/0315/859886-retired-postman-retains-van/ You will probably need subtitles, or just read the accompanying text - I'm only a couple of hours away from this place and I have

  5. A friend in work heard of my new purchase. She used to own a Yugo 45 a few years ago. Today she turned up with a gift for me from her Yugo owning days... To quote “I loved my Yugo, I always regretted selling it.” She’ll get the opportunity for some nostalgia when it’s finished! I will post my (very minor) progress later, that just takes longer than a quick update! And yes, the Yugo puns will keep on coming!

  7. You will need... 1x sheet of 1500 grit wet and dry 1x sheet of 2000 grit wet and dry Cutting compound - g3 or g7 or similar Rotary polisher (not essential but better results achieved quicker using a rotary polisher) As is mostly the case on older cars, the headlights (as a result of UV Ray's from the sun) fade and yellow the headlights which can massively reduce the light output. This was something my Audi A6 was suffering from and had been for some time after trying many other 'remedies' which would work, albeit temporarily and after several days in some cases

Made it! Arrived back at 3am...long, tiring old drive, but a pleasant one. Sorry no pics or updates. I go into survival mode on this sort of trip, concentrate on getting there rather than taking pictures of myself panicking. Also I don’t have mobile internet. Love this van. Slightly scary first ten miles, getting used to the slowness of a fully loaded non turbo wagon. Also a definite smell of burning rubber. I checked under the bonnet, and had a bit of a look underneath - couldn't find anything so put it down to new parts/lack of use/something unimportant being where it shouldn’t be.

  15. To get this running Find an old washing up bottle. ( Fairy, or cheaper option) Clean it out Fill it with petrol, enabling you to squirt it where needed. Take top off air filter. Open choke, so you can see down barrels. Give both barrels a good squirt. Ignition on, throttle jammed to the floor. Do not move the throttle till it runs. Crank it will take a few seconds but once the mixture stabilises, with air, the engine will catch, stutter, then cough into life. As as it does so, feather the throttle to keep it running as long as possible, as gently as possible

  20. Last week, I finally got the kingpins replaced. Drives much more sweetly now, or she did until I started getting a serious pong inside the car. The sharp tang of exhaust fumes on the overrun was necessitating an open window every time I slow down - at its worst on the overrun. Shoving a bit of windscreen washer pipe in my ear allowed me to trace the leak to the nearside manifold. I reckon it's been blowing for a fair while, but I've had the heater disconnected since the Croatia trip, so only noticed now it's all back together. So, apart she comes again. The job is

  21. Finally made it home - waze was very keen that I use the a68 but I hate driving it at night so ignored its advice and ploughed on down the a1. to discover that it’s bloody closed at Berwick and I had a massive bloody diversion to do now first impressions of the car are good, there’s a few wee bits to attend to - I suspect a minor exhaust leak as when the car is stationary, it quickly fills with stinky diesel fumes. and thanks to whatever random debris I ran over in the road, there’s an under tray hanging loose now. but it goes well, is comfortable and, most importantly, does

  24. Now that Micra has been repaired it has been taking me to the IoW: Micra was polished in the weekend as its really the only time it may ever get one. For the more eagle eyed among you, you might notice it has gained a small badge on the right side of the tailgate. It's a 'Glyn Hopkin' Nissan dealer badge that I found at Mahmouds garage. Its the same colour as the Micra which was originally supplied by Glyn Hopkin and still has the rear dealership numberplate. I stuck it on and promptly fell off so spread on some loctite glue and chucked it back on. It needs the

I had this years ago. Young kid, cycle, wrong side of road downhill. I stopped. He hit the front of my car and went over the roof landing on grass. I took him and a mangled bike home. He told his dad it was his fault. I reported it 'to be on the safe side'. My premium went up. I got a letter from the kids dad to say that no claim would ever be made. My premium was reduced. Worth a try maybe.

  27. Will Yugo??? First job let’s try and work out why it’s not starting... Here’s the engine.. phwoar!! Air filter cover removed to access the carb. So a dribble of fuel in the carb and let’s see if there’s anything.... Crank crank crank cough splutter splutter die... Take 2... same result. Ok so there appears to be life! Spark plugs: Ok a little blackened, but a check shows that there is spark at the plugs. Good news. Underneath the carb... Am I being thick...? I was only expecting one fuel pipe into the carb

Im not perfect. Occassionally i dont really forward think. But recently it's been like George and Fucking Mildred. This evening she is with her friend whose husband recently was found out cheating and is now living in his car or a bed-sit or something. This sorry story has only served to add fuel to her questioning my commitment to her any time she feels a bit low. Quite frankly, I understand why blokes stray but to be honest I couldn't be arsed with the stress.

As it was winter, so therefore dark and cold, I didn't bother taking my high vis coat off when we got back to it at the other end of the car park. Fuck me did it slow down the traffic on the M62 on our way back to Lincolnshire!!

  46. New numberplates arrived today. Entirely by chance, I found that A1 Showplates are still a thing (I'd not been able to find them when actually looking recently) and they have an exact Serck font available. Thanks to https://www.flickr.com/groups/serck/ for the link on their page and plenty of lovely Serck-y goodness. The original plate had started delaminating which not only looked scruffy, but might have caused problems at future MoTs, so it's best to sort this now. The only thing that had stopped me doing the plates sooner is that I couldn't find a supplier until very recently. Here you
