  2. I've bought the replacement (Borg & Beck) clutch cable via eBay. The item was marked as dispatched yesterday afternoon so it may well arrive tomorrow, in time for me to fit it on Sunday / Monday. Things didn't go according to plan today. I wedged a piece of roofing batten between the clutch pedal and the seat (with plenty of padding on the seat end). Then, I wedged another piece of wood between the clutch arm and bellhousing. With the clutch pedal released, unhooking the end of the clutch cable was easy. With the clutch cable slack, I pressed on the clutch pedal and the quadrant clicked several times and reset itself to this position. This makes me think that the quadrant is working ok. Unhooking the end of the clutch cable from the quadrant was easy. But removing the plastic fitting that forms part of the clutch cable from the metal sleeve that passes through the bulkhead caused a problem. The plastic bit snapped, leaving a seized piece inside the sleeve. Bugger. No amount of poking with a screw driver made any difference. The back of the sleeve is inaccessible from inside the car. I had no choice, I had to cut the cable. My wife came to the rescue. She was keeping the cable still whilst I cut the end of the metal cable with an angle grinder. With the cable removed, I drilled the remaining piece of plastic from the sleeve. I had it out within 2 minutes. The only marking on the old clutch cable is a number "37". Not sure what it means. With the old clutch cable destroyed, I couldn't do anything else today. Also, the gap in the side of the cable adjustor bolt that I bought yesterday is too narrow for the clutch cable to pass through. I may have to source a bigger and more robust one. More updates once I get my hands on the new clutch cable.
  3. Horse ramp for getting the horses off. The one in Deptford still survives and is Grade II Listed. You, or indeed your horse, can still use it.
  4. This. Also why the 75/ZT got the 1.8 turbo but not the VVC It was a light pressure turbo that was designed to be fairly lazy and cheaper on company car costs than the 2.0 V6

Produced similar power to the VVC but the VVC was more of a 'spank it' sports car choice?
  6. Waiting for that Marina which is pulling onto the hard shoulder?
  7. I just want to know how and why is she there?
  8. did rover ever chuck the 1800 Turbo lump in these??? if not why not???
  9. End of the Westway with traffic from the Harrow Road pushing in so as to use the Marylebone Flyover - early 1980s. Paddington Basin is over to the left and that was a total dump back then. Wharf Road was cut in two by the Westway - here's a picture from the old GWR stables in what is now South Wharf Road - I was told that is was once the biggest urban stables in Europe - no idea if that's true. Stables got disinfected and turned into part of the adjacent St Mary's Hospital [edit] - my memory needs a rebore. Nth and Sth Wharf road have the canal running between them - they've always been seperate.
  10. Imp, g-red, trilby and roof-rack in an x-reg world...
  11. Agreed. I have a couple of these coming soon, so you might just see another one on this thread!
  12. Just be careful over speed bumps, an acquaintance has just done damage to the manicat on an identical blue one. I don't think these are going to go down in value, so a good time to try.

MGF progress After a pump up (i had a hand pump that i got off e bay years ago) it now sits at the spec ride height. So much more comfortable, presumably it was skittering about almost on its bump stops. I was a bit worried the shit ride quality was also blown displacers, but is now manages to be both sporty and a lot more supple.

  15. Drive alright and interiors are pretty decent. 140k intervals mean that it's much further down the ownership line where value is usually far lower. It's like 8k per annum average for most UK owners. Average car in the UK is scrapped at 16yrs. So there is a good chance many of these cars will have original belt for life.

  18. I don’t let cars hurt my wallet too much 😂
  19. It doesn’t usually put up much resistance against the chemical strippers. Within a couple of minutes most of it just flakes or scrapes off.
  20. I forgot to update this...uh yeah it's MOTd and back in use again, new bushes, drives as expected although I did get an advisory on the balljoint so I'll change it this weekend. I am a bit annoyed as I booked it in with the wrong MOT tester when I got it done, the combination of having to pay a fine for driving in a bus lane in Cardiff, having awful man flu and being absolutely burned out due to work meant I got my Bs in Lincolnshire mixed up so it went to the place that uses a rumbler on their lift to check for play and wear rather than my usual chap who's a lot more mechanically sympathetic and can check using bars like a proper person. 🤣 I mean it's not an issue in the grander scheme of things, it just meant I had to drive a bit further and it cost me a couple of quid more, both do the job right.
  21. The full ooffft! Would love this!
  22. Test drive time; to Loughborough in the slowest of crawling market day traffic and then to Manchester & back, twice in two days - Sorted.
