Just thought you'd like to see some of the shite that our Brie-loving friends of St Malo have to offer.

 

 

lets start with a Pug, nothing special mind.

 

Who would've thought that 13" three-spokes would look good on anything? nobody except the owner of this fine Renault obviously.

 

Lancia Y10? wasn't the Fiat Cinq based on this?

 

Beetle, very nice condition therefore this is kit surely?

 

Viva la grande rouge chat! English reg Jag invading France-else its broken down, its cooling system pushed to its limit whilst Jean-Paul and his buddies block the ports.

 

I have to admit that I thought this was a Hindustan Ambassador when it first clack-clacked into view whilst I was sitting down enjoying a lovely big crepe as it looks brand new. Further investigation reveals it to be a diesel Peugeot 403...driven by a man...with an otraaagus acccssssont.

 

Mon Dieu! was so visibly shocked was I at seeing this mk1 Rover 800 I had to take five to recover, LHD sans centre caps and STUPID stuck-on grill nevertheless I'd have driven it home (via the ferry obviously unless Jersey builds that ridiculous bridge to France it was recently talking about-ooh get me)

 

Juuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuust lovely little pug so lovely in fact that I wanted to dance the Samba*...which was ironic.

Ahem not that unusual then, I think this is the British Open version featuring a full-length webasto. I didn't confirm this despite being a mini owner, hope to god they didn't rename them French Open.

 

Renault, createur d'shite automobile. Saw a depressing lack of these, only saw a couple and a Citroen 2CV van that sped past me.

When I was taking this pic I saw a traffic warden walk up to the ticket machine and buy someone a ticket, having studied this simple act I concluded that neither party knew each other, that this wouldn't happen in the UK, and that I should mind my own business and come along dear.

Yes Y10. I also spy one of thoese odd coloured Polos which everytime I see one I assume it's faded in the sun. It's obviously meant to be that way as I keep seeing them like it!

Grateful for the fore & aft shots of the 104, (why can't fore & aft shots be standard procedure where possible?) esp as it is the pick of the bunch for me! (if the Ritmo was an elusive MkI then that would win hands down) Which brings me onto the 2nd picture - thanks for the consideration, although I have to say, despite the name I'm not the biggest Strada perv on here (although I make a bolder statement about them) that title would have to go to Sir Bickle who has Stradas 'plural'

Marvellous! St Malo is truly good shite-watching fodder - seemed to have the highest proportion of battered E28 5-series in France last time I was there. The pubs are quite decent too

That's funny because the 404 and the next Morris Oxford were uncannily alike too. Photocopiers must have been invented earlier than i thought.

Great picture which shows well how stupidly large cars have become in the last ten or twenty years. How big do you need a bleedin car to be? Down here in deepest Devon the roads are suffocating under the mass of Troopers, Cayennes, Discoverys & Volvo X90s etc etc..

Didn't see ANY BMW E28s, as a custodian of one they stick out a mile to me nor did I see any E30s of which I also own. In all honesty I have to say although the walled city of St Malo is very small there were too many modern cars, could the EU appoint an officer whose sole job it is to inspect the amount of shite per capita? enforcing a simple NON! to every Laguna driver and instead educating the aforementioned offender to the ways of Simca or Renault Dauphine et al? Surely they would then give the shite-enthusiast a break once they know they can introduce several hundred bizzare laws into the deal.I digress.I belive the BMC/Peugeot thing is one of those many cases of same designer different manufacturers=similar end-product. They were designed by PininFarina (hence the BMC Farina nick-name) and so were the Pugs-yes the Peugeot 404 was almost identical to the later Morris Oxford/Austin Cambridge/Wolseley/Riley/MG cars with its fins n'chrome. I must apologise for the size of the pics, photobucket asked me if I wanted the resized to a smaller size which I did, then I manually re-sized them again but nothing changed so hang-on in there dial-up modem users and pour yourself a nice litre of Pelforth Brun or a cheeky Pastis (or indeed a pasty for readers south-west of the Tamar)

That 104 has a weird grille, I've never seen one looking like that before. Then again I can probably count the amount of 104's I've seen on one hand!!

Weird looking back end on this one. I guess it was a facelift version that was produced after Lancia ceased RHD production? A shame I feel that the later Ypsilon never was offered in Britain, though of course a few LHD examples have made it over.

Yes it definitely has a larger grille & smaller headlamps.....perhaps a final fling restyle?

No we didn't get that restyled MkI Y10 & I too am a fan of the funky looking MkII

I think Minis were quite popular in France, or certainly in Paris where I saw more Minis (and Metros) than VW Polos or other non French/Italian small cars on school trips - mind you this was in the 1980s!!I can imagine the low ground clearance probably made them fairly useless in the rural areas!
