Wasn't going to mention anything until I [hopefully] pick it up on Saturday, but they've been brought up twice in the last week or so on here, so here's a little teaser of what I've gone and bought:

$(KGrHqN,!iME5j6hTytEBOf3)jCBo!~~60_12.J

Here's hoping it's as good as it appeared to be when I went for a look - and gets me all the way home - because it's got to replace the N16 (which will probably be up for sale very shortly, but I can't imagine there's any interest in that on here)

No prize for guessing what it is I'm afraid, the picture should be enough to incite some excitement in someone on here - he's looking for four of them!

Actually, the wheels are pretty much the worst part of it - they will need stripping back and repainting, and the sills need getting onto very quickly or they'll need welding which is (unfortunately?) out of my league at the minute.

A young lad I work with took me down to pick it up on Satuday morning, and setting off at 0730 meant I spent less time lying awake after the sun came up and could sort out a reasonable tools/spares kit before he arrived. A modern oil burning ashtray was unsurprisingly smooth at nearly three figure speeds most of the way down, which also meant his concentration was on the road and not on the fact I'd turned off Galaxy radio

Picking up the car was smooth as the docs had been sorted on Monday, so I stuck £40 in the tank and we set off back up north.

Witness mistake #1, uttering the words "Would you like to try it?" to a 20 year old:

Unfortunately by the time I had everything sorted out SORNing the N16, the heat was back to unpleasant and certainly too hot to start cleaning it properly. Dropped all the windows and headed for Durham, where I took my rents to a farm shop for a four-up 30mph ride comfort test - it's MUCH smoother than the Almera. I made the my second mistake in leaving photos for today so I could clean it first - whereupon it's rained since 4AM. Nice.

Still, I've cleaned a remarkable amount of grime from the interior for a car with only 50k on, and lost about 4Kg of mud from the wheelarches and the backs of the sills - hence the need for attention shortly! I've spent 8 hours in the rain today cleaning this and the N16, and haven't even polished a single panel, which probably makes me a little sad. Lots more to do.

These photos are after the initial wash off - the insides hadn't been touched at this point!

Also comes complete with it's original stereo, which is fully removable AND seems to have a 3.5mm input on the front. Bonus.

I've had a look around the forum that's dedicated to these things, but as my only plans for modifications are some original dealer number plates (jtc600 in Yeadon), new door speakers, and some Mazda rubber floormats if I can find them, I suspect it won't quite fit in!

I had one for about 3 months. Been Giffered looked after but by golly they are quick!

I ended up swapping it for an Audi 100 Avant due to the fact that it liked to go everywhere at 4Krpm! Got a little frightened for my licence. Quicker than a Golf GTi. The 1.8 certainly goes and they handle well.

Seats are lush but can feel a little claustrophobic with everything being dark plastic etc.

Bloke that got mine looked on the owners website and subsquently stuck loads of sticks over it, covered the bonnet with some film, swapped over the (brand new) OE exhaust for a huuuuge one and stuck an filter on it. Seriously ruined it.

www.club323f.com is a great place for these, standard cars are very welcome, nice buch of chaps.

Hmm, yet another forum I need to join! :?

Nice purchase though, looks lovely in red. Far nicer than Tarmac Grey like someone's on here.... My plans include a respray in a different colour, sooner or later, but everything's on hold at the moment because of cashflow, or more accurately, lack thereof.

Nice. They are a bit undergeared for cruising, but otherwise a cracking drive. Mrs SL had one for 2-3 years which I then took over and sold on far too cheap. Still regret not buying it back when it popped up for sale again, would be great on trackdays.

Apparently there’s a fuse that can be removed so the main lights don’t pop up if you just want sidelights.

No real issues with ours, but rear arches susceptible to rot. Tight inside, high loading sill can be a pain and there’s not much storage space for bits and bobs. Very raspy exhaust note.

Blimey, I should really refresh this more often!

Seem to recall folk saying that these get a bit 'light' at the front if you flip the headlamps up on the motorway...

I can't say I noticed on the way home, but then I'm not sure I would have, I didn't have the lights up for long. Long run to Coventry on Friday night should test it out - I'll bear it it mind, thanks!

I've had it to tescos at lunchtime today. I can see this. Eek.

I signed up a few weeks before I bought it in the 'I need another mazda in my life, is this the one' stage and have been lurking ever since - I must admit it was a gross generalisation, it just seems that everything is slammed and wrapped! I guess the same is true of any car forum now. Thanks for the invite Mark, I'll introduce myself a little later on.

EFA ;) Hopefully I can inspire you to go digging for some 4x100s, even if they're steels. I really wanted a grey or black one, and had even promised myself never to buy a red car until I saw this for what seems to be very little

Granted the back seats aren't the biggest, but there's plenty of room for the two of us and a couple of occasional passengers, especially considering the size of it. Today I've been parked between a first generation Audi TT 225 and a '51 plate 1.8 Celica. It's about the same size (even height wise) as each of them, and has considerably more room than either - and I reckon it'd give them a run for their money.

The loading sill is indeed a pain - on Saturday I brought home the first 200 copies of Q magazine, and haven't removed them yet for this very reason. Hmph. There's no curry hook either, but I'll live without it. :)

I can certainly see why the arches are a rust trap. I spend nearly an hour with a hose and a teaspoon getting mud and rocks out from all the crevices, and thankfully I think they can be rescued - it's brown, but not rotten.

Anyway, it's not raining, so I'm off to get some waxoil under it.

I had good intentions when it came to this car, but time is not on my side.  It was bought to replace my Almera as the 'sensible daily', but SWMBO now has a K11 micra which performs that role adequately.

Current pictures (it's looking a little sorry for itself as it's not been re-polished since the work on the arches started, see below)

http://gibson.org.uk/~michael/323F/

BAD STUFF FIRST:
After an embarrassing low speed shunt requiring a new panel, my girlfriend proceeded to clip a parked Ashtray, scraping and dinting the nearside wing. She then beat it out to the best of her ability, and primed and sprayed it - along with the rear arch on the nearside. With that side done, she stripped the bubbling paint and started to prep the offside arches for paint too. This is when we bought the house, and it's not been touched since (apart from a fortnightly 40 mile drive out to keep it running sweetly).   I'm pleasantly surprised at how well the rattle-can paint matches.

It could probably do with a straighter NSF wing, and the arches respraying all round.  As a shitist's car, you could simply repaint them as they are given some indoor space or a sunny day.

At the last MOT a small patch was put onto one sill. Both sills need some welding attention to bring the car back up to standard, but you could simply patch the other one for the next MOT..

The exhaust back box was replaced with an original style twin exit one, but the join to the rest of the system started blowing again on the last run out.  I still haven't had the wheels done either, so they still have some laquer peeling.

The engine is a little tappety when cold, but is fine after 20 minutes driving.

GOOD STUFF NEXT:
63,300 miles or thereabouts.
Mechanically it's been thoroughly tested over the last two years and 13k. In my care it's had cambelt, full fluid flushes, new clutch, clutch master & slave, tyres - Toyo Proxes CF1s, brake pipes all round etc. etc. All receipts.

Only modifications are a K&N and raybrig lights, which are a vast improvement on the originals.  Removed parts included.

I've also fitted an early 90s aftermarket high level brake light, which illuminates the Autoshite sticker well.

MOT until end of February 2014. One advisory (test number 259041453094, http://www.direct.gov.uk/yourmotcheck) for the rusty sill that wasn't patched.

The interior is immaculate, or very close to being so. It's quiet (under 70 at least), very fast, comfortable etc. It only gets BP or Shell Super unleaded, which gains me enough MPG (http://www.fuelly.com/driver/loserone/323 - not updated for a while, sorry!) to justify the extra cost.

Price? I'd love £650, but I'm open to offers for a quicker sale rather than leaving it to rot on the driveway.

Possible swaps for: volvo, jimny, saab etc.  Cash either way.

Cheers :) I've thoroughly enjoyed it, it's just not fair sitting there unused and ungaraged.

I wouldn't like to guarantee it (the MX5 you can see is a 1.6, not a 1.8 <space>) but I believe it is the same motor.

BTW, if any autoshitists purchase this, I'll throw in a copy of CAR magazine (bought from dugong, actually!) where LJK Setright declares it to be second only to a Mini Cooper in a hot hatch shootout through some lanes around North Yorkshire.  I'll also provide a map, so you can try them on your way home as they're only 15 minutes away.

Did anyone mention it being fast as fuck?

Shameless bump! Got the insurance renewal though (for everything, not just this) today.  I reckon not having this on the 30th of November would save me £350.  Does that give anyone enough haggling room to be interested?

Genuinely think this could be brought back to A1 without a massive amount of cost.  MOT and tax till the end of March too, I think, and a nearly-full tank of super unleaded.

Someone shout before I revert to ebay on Sunday.

Terrible bump, just in case it's the car someone wants that isn't 306/cougar/bx/147/MX-5 etc. and they didn't see this after the last bump.

400 would take it and allow me to buy some kitchen cabinets to strap to the roof of my MX5..

Wow! She sounds awesome! A girlfriend who gets stuck into shite-fixing, blimey.

Er never mind the car, have you got any pictures of the GF?

Ook!

My father has just reminded my that the red car on his garden runs out of MOT on Tuesday, and tax at the end of the month.  eBay was a waste of time, and I'm unfortunately in no position to resolve either the test or the tax, so it's bargain car time.  Ã‚£100 to shiters?

Do you have any up to date photos of the car
