Mr_Bo11ox
I've been on holiday in Brittany for the last week and a half. Here is my report: First off, these two were waiting on the docks at Le Havre. Very interesting Merc Fintail 'Universal' wagon: Next, a lovely early 305 that was for sale at a garage near where I was staying. 3-stud wheels + vinyl seats mark it out as being one of the first I think. It had clearly been off the road for a bit but was grot free, just a few blebs on the roof and bonnet presumably due to a leaky shed roof. I dont know how much they wanted and didnt dare ask in case I started getting my wallet out. I have written the garage phone no. down though in case I start being brave. Here is the breakdown truck from the same garage: Spied a nice 304 mouldering in someones garden (sory for the rubbish pic): Another rubbish pic, this time a Merc 123 200 which was in unbelievably straight condition. This rare flatlight celica was just parked up while the owner did a bit of shopping: The old lady owner had cultivated a good rat-look on this golf: Sure I remember seeing an engine bay shot of one of these, it looked like someone had chopped through the engine mounts and let the lump drop down till it was only held in by the exhaust and choke cable, very strange: Nearly dropped my bacon sarnie when I saw this: Anyone for a Kebab? YES PLEASE This disgusting Ebro van casued me to LOL, the other side was manufactured entirely from wag and silicone sealant! Also read this over the holiday, marvellous story. Anyone read it? r.welfare
Nearly dropped my bacon sarnie when I saw this:WOW! Hopefully one of our OJC experts will be able to me whether these lumpy-looking saloons were built in Japan or (I suspect) an Australian development; if so, how the hell did a LHD one end up in France? That povo-spec 305 is also deeply lovely. 1.3-fanbelt-snaking-round-the-engine job I reckon.
Mr Lobster
I have a real soft spot for these, bit bland but appeals to me in strange ways!
carlo
What wonderful pictures mr b, any pictures of french scenes makes me go all misty eyed. Don't think we were ever treated to vinyl seats on 305s, must have been only European versions. Obviously us Brits like having warmer bums. wuvvum
D'you know what, I don't think I've ever seen a Merc fintail estate before. That really is quite a handsome car. The old coachbuilt Citroen kebab van is quality too...
Mr_Bo11ox
I went to a classic car gathering while I was over there and have got about 150 pics including some proper belters, I'll load em up later.

pogweasel
Mmmm, Kebabs. Large please, with lashings of SOSS.Some real charmers there REG_B0110X, I like the Merc Universal, very classy, but I think the Ascona would be charming too. I'd bosh up spots from my H0LZ but I didn't take hardly any. Very little spotting at all, though I did re-spot the disgusting Ford Zodiac that once appeared in 'spotteds spottings'. And I was LOLLING too much to snap a barried astra with CRUIZIN' 4 PUSSY emblazoned on it in foot-high lettering.
Mr Lobster
What wonderful pictures mr b, any pictures of french scenes makes me go all misty eyed.I'll second that! I'm really wishing I was in some part of rural France taking in the aroma of Galloise smoke and enjoying a fresh crossaint or two. Instead, this morning I am in Accrington which to be frank is just bollocks
wuvvum
Ooh... I wonder if I could do that with my Saviem...
Split_Pin
Ace pictures, I love that 305. I cant remember the last time I saw an early one with the sloping front like that.
mk2_craig
GR8 SPOTZ, another fan of that 305 here, precisely the sort of thing I remember cluttering up Brittany roads in the early 1980s on family hols. Would this have had yellow-lensed headlamps when new?
Mash
Good stuff there, I also like the 305 very much and that Colt saloon is very unusual.I saw one of those jacked-up Golfs in Belgium last year, same colour; very bizarre looking thing.I had to look twice when I saw the 1.2 badge on that Ascona :shock:I know the "A" was a smaller car than later versions, but even so! nigel bickle
Why do the Frogs always seem to have so much more style & panache than us?And why cant we replicate it! Depanneuse, s'il vous plait!
reallyloud
Some neat handling going on there. Non interesting fact: We have relatives in Brest, which is the number plate suffix ending in '29' and I think '22' is close by - I was fascinated by the fact that the registration plates which were determined by phone codes - so paris number plates would end in 75. And so on.
Mr_Bo11ox
Thats just the number of the 'departement' where the car is registered.
reallyloud
Ah right, I was always led to believe it was related to phone numbers or post codes or summin'.
Mr_Bo11ox
OK so as promised here are a few car show spots. Thsi is what I stumbled upon, just happened to be comin right by where I was staying. When I got there I was amazed at the sheer size of the goings-on: The sun was out, everyone was in a good mood, lots of music and laughing going on everywhere, great stuff. Some ace people-spotting to be done also.... So I got down to some car snapping. Some shite, some not to much so! Peugeot 203 Coupé. Never even knew these existed. This Opel Rekord was class, love the look of these things. This was RHD but on french trader plates. Must have just been imported. This looks rather brutal! I wouldnt like to have it run over my toe, thats for sure. Cheer up love! Surely its not as bad as all that. Think this is some sort of Simca. These are quite an appealing machine. RWD so GR8 4 DRFTIN 2 THE BAKERS SH0P. This one sounded in such good health, it was quite remarkable. The engine was super-smooth. These 504 koops are one of the best-proportioned cars of all time if you ask me. Even when partially obscured by a hunchback-typre charcater. This horror is a Moss Malvern kit car, triumph based. How this one got on to french plates I dont know, but it will be worth several thousand euros in France because of them, despite looking SHIT. Out the way love! I've got about 150 pics altogether so will bosh up some more in a bit.
michiel
"I'm left behind again to guard his Ferrari while I wanted to go to the patisserie, merde!"Got any pics of the 4CV speedster thing? Looks intriguing!Great stuff Monsieur Boules!
Mr_Bo11ox
Lets have some more: The obligatory DS. Pure class. This guy had lost his front valance en route. 403 truck - unburstable. Not surprised these fetch crazy money, they are a work of art, I just think VW scene tax whenever I see one now though, which is a bit harsh. Not sure what this is, I think its a half-simca half-ford vehicle from when Simca was formed and took over Ford's manufacturing operations in France. It has a V8 engine I think. Love that badge - 'REGIE NATIONAL RENAULT' Aircraft carrier This was not part of the run, someone had just turned up in it to observe the goings-on. Its a Hotchkiss I believe and had a marvellous patina. EXCELLENT! Dunno much about bikes! Lovely fintail merc, the saloon version of the wagon on pg 1. I always shit bricks about towing with my Audi 200, this guy must have NADS OF STEEL. Very nice, I bet one of these would be OK for a daily in 2008. NICE ELBOW MATE More later!! andrew e
Superb! That must have been a real pleasant accidental suprise, re: the Moss once things have cleared 25 years then the extraordinarly hard importation to france isa lot easier as things are antiques - I think my properly registered Dutton went that way. Mr_Bo11ox
Another lot: Whats this then? Peugeot 402? RS2000 quarter bumper job on this Beirut Takka. Oooh la la! Fugly Matra coupe. Totally splendid. Have these got a Ford V4 or have I imagined that? One for the Bicklator. Heres that old Ferrari again. Check the threads!!! This thing called itself a 'Marina', didnt seem as good as a real Marina though. Unmistakeable aircooled twin gasping away under the bonnet like an injured wasp with a punctured lung. 1/43 scale Vespa. Look out! Few of these hooning about. Just like my Grandads old one! Eh? This guy was determined to run me down, luckily I ran between two trees Tom + Jerry style causing him to crash in a comical fashion. OMGz! DER KAPITAN KOMMT! Etz. Who's that sweetie hiding round the corner? DNT B SHYE! I WILL TAKE GUD CARE OF U!
