I really like these Type Fours.  Shame so many have been hit with the stance stick.

I was really taken by this Beetle, mainly because it's exactly the same colour and spec as mine.  So many Beetles have been messed about with it's rare to see a '70s 1200 that hasn't had a larger engine fitted or been 'customised' with the earlier sloping headlights or whatever.  The guy was telling me it used to be his Mum's when he was a kid and he somehow persuaded his parents to keep it, even after they'd bought a newer car.  He finally dragged it out of their garage a couple of years ago and got someone to recommission it and give the paintwork a blow over.  It looks pretty smart now and pleasingly original.  A bit of inspiration for me to sort mine out, anyway.

Hi,

Just found this thread about the RetroWarwick show. The date for 2012 is Sunday 12th August and its the same format again - free and just turn up and park. capacity is about 100 cars but 130 turned up last year, so get in early is my advice.

I had the black saab 99 turbo last year (with "puddle"....was a leaky thermostat gasket). I sold it to a guy in venice, Italy. Got a 67 mgbgt now.

cheers

Matt

Hold up....

You sold a black 99 Turbo and bought an MGB??

Lovely stuff! Didn't know that VW 1200s were so susceptible to being mucked about with, though I suppose they'd be a little cheaper than other models - except the uggers 1303, of course. My brother had an orangey yellow N reg one and apart from putting some silly wide tyres on the steel rims, he kept it original and I don't recall it being slow, either.

BTW, the Yank next to the Kitten van is actually an Aussie XA/XB/XC Falcon - can't quite remember the detail differences, especially between the coupes.

It's a Beetle; they're all susceptible! I think in terms of the '70s ones, they're appealing neither to the vintage/concours crowd nor the scenes tee/dubber fraternity, so they tend to get mildly pineappled by the latter group. Doesn't help that parts are relatively scarce. The front wings are different to most other models and, as I found when I needed a pair, harder to come by. I'm no expert, just my experience from a few year's ownership. I've been to the massive Stanford Hall show a couple of times and can't recall seeing a standard 1200 even amongst the hundreds there.
