Friday Tat Haul..

I've been after a comfy slugger for a while, and have been harbouring a perverse lust for the W123 Mercedes for as long as I can remember.. so.. when this came up on the bay a couple of miles away, i couldn't resist!

Behold! £250 of base model windy window 2 litre auto german goodness :D 81K and 2 local owners from new, mint interior, runs well, just needs a bit of fettling to the rear arches, which i am getting done by a friend in exchange for a surplus car :)

Sorry for the appauling photo skillz!

Plans are to sort the rear arches and the couple of other scabs, get my other mate to repaint the repaired bits, and leave it stock as a rock and slug around slowly :)

Mike :)

Well done! I've always liked them, timeless look to them IMO. 2-litre auto's going to be a touch thirsty though eh?...

Both thirsty and slow i imagine! Not that it worries me too much, I have the Astra for work and general hauling duties, this will do nicely as an evening and weekend cruiser :)

*edit* It will not be replacing the place of the Celeste however! I can't imagine that one will be an overly 'comfy' drive though to be honest :D

Here's a couple of pics of the interior from the auction, note the sea of blanking plates!!

It is a bit of a blue overload! No T&T on it, but it shouldn't take much to sort :) It has had next to no welding in the past, so at least i'll know with the grot it has got repaired it'll be cock on :)

Lovely! I reckon one that late will have the 190-spec 2-litre in it; Merc always had a habit of putting the 'next generation' engines into the latter years of the older shape. So it will still be slow and thirsty, but not as slow and thirsty as a pre-81 2-litre...mind you, that's a relative thing.I do like the round lights. I had some late 70s Merc brochures full of W123s and other models like this as a kid and they were fantastic, so much better than the 'staged studio shots' Ford/Vauxhall jobs.
