pogweasel Posted March 5, 2008 Share Posted March 5, 2008 It's national obscure pseudo-lux-tat week this week. First the Tagora, now this has come out of the woodwork... When was the last time you saw a Fiat Croma, today Ive found a really decent one for sale. Belongs to my best mate (I never even knew he owned it) Its a silver grey 4 door saloon, with 2 litre twin cam power. It has no MOT at the moment but the guy who owns it is a mechanic. Its recently had four brand new tyres which have done less than 3 miles but the best bit is..... Its running on LPG! Cheap to run, up and coming classic and very practical. Interested? He wants about £300 for it. From what I've seen today, it needs the front bumper valance repairing, and a damn good clean (I may do this prior to it being sold) Its a very honest car and looking for a good home. If you want it with an MOT / Vallet etc, Im sure this can be arranged.Just recieved pics: Smashing. A Croma on lpg must be magical. In the pecking order of Alfa 164, Saab 9000 and Lancia Thema, the Croma was at the very bottom of the pile. There's shite, and there's drab forgettable shite like that.A - void. One thing I'll always remember about the Croma is how badly it did in an Auto Motor und Sport crash test circa 1990. 55 km/h offset test and the dashboard came right in on top of the driver. Always starts- even after a 3 month sit, drives well, never given any probs. Bit bland, and not quick ,but comfy, quiet and a bit different. That was last year, when the little direct injected diesel decided it had enough of it's old paper headgasket.(Fiat claims they were the first w/ DI diesel in a passenger car, but so do Audi and Rover) Now that you've been warned... THERE! Of course the original wheel plates were already stunning But I decided to add to its already awesome appeal by adding Barchetta alloys Last APK (MOT) first thing the guy said when I rolled up is "Ouch, those things make your eyes hurt!". I took that as a compliment. To ensure he wouldn't have to look at it again for at least another year, he passed it with flying colors. Can't blame him. Actually this is a dealer kept car that I bought from 1st owner a little over a year ago - just a tad over 100k miles on it, which is insanely little for a diesel and probably explains the dried out paper headgasket. There's a multilayer metal one in there now. First owner had it as a company car at first, then when he retired he bought it and probably drove it to church and back for another 10 years before finally trading it in for a Kappa at said dealership - same that also delivered it as a new car. I bought it there for a song. Garage kept all its life, it's completely rust free and everything shiny even inside the wheel arches. An amazing example. The DI diesel is a bit noisy, but other than that it's comfy spacious daily shite. Not too quick but decent for a diesel, and besides the headgasket incident quite reliable too. Surprisingly economical as well. I was actually happy to get back into my Croma after driving father's Golf 5 for about 500km through Germany. Crap seats that car had, and suspension that could tell you heads or tails if you happened to drive over a coin. Horrible. Yep -shes ok- walked away from it unscathed -only cut herself clambering to get back in to retrieve her laptop! And once righted it ran fine -a small leak from the oil cooler but thats it. Cost her £160 to get it lowloaded 8 miles home -robbers.Motoring wise -not many stories -office bound in southern Italy for the past few weeks -but I'm a bit backed up here.Minor problem with the Council seems to have occurred whilst i've been away -but I've instructed the heavies....Several cars to collect, the 124 estate is on the ship from Oz, due here early May but the dunderhead withthe bellett has missed 2 boats. Its an ex Practical Classics -Simon Goldsworthy car thats not been on the road since 87, and has only covered 19,000.Mint -inside and out. But EVERYTHING had seized -right down to the throttle cable and linkage. Its running now -has brakes and has moved a few feet under its own power. A new exhaust was delivered whilst i was away so thats to be fitted -then its on the road and snagging. Once reliable I've a nice twin cam to go in -cant decide whether to fit a 125tc or a 130tc....Apart from a coupe of brief updates I've not heard from him -but then I havent been here either.....
