This was only done a few months ago FFS. Not surprisingly the Govt said no.If Gordon/Alistair don't want to do it, sending them petitions constantly with no new arguments is just a waste of time. I bet they wish they had never introduced this web thing.Look at it from the Govts point of view - is there any reason on earth would they want to do this? Lose revenue and encourage use of 'environmentally unfriendly' old vehicles - yeah that's really an attractive idea. I know the 'using an old car prevents energy use building a new one' argument, but that's a non starter - Govts like new cars being built and sold as it contributes to GDP and economic growth.I know this post is going to be unpopular but there are far more important things for the Govt to be doing IMHO.

They would not have to keep receiving new petitions if the greedy b4stards had left it as a rolling age thing. Surely the revenue from 25 years worth of cars should generate enough in 'vehicle tax' - especially as it goes up over the rate of inflation all the time and more and more new vehicles are being manufactured year on year.

I'm afraid I agree totally with AnthonyG on this. The whole 'Free Tax' thing gets right up my hooter TBH.I had a few cars that became eligible under the old 'rolling year' system, and I s'pose it was a minor thrill getting a tax disc for nothing, but I think it just serves to make the drivers of old cars even more unpopular with other drivers.

Yup I agree with AntonyG and mouseflakes. These days, it costs me the same amount to fill up the car twice, as it does to Tax it for 6 months.. I think that that is more of an issue..

Agreed that is more of an issue (and it's getting beyond a joke how expensive fuel is) but it grates with me to have to pay the same 'road tax' to do less than a 1000 miles a year in my Mk1 Fiesta, mainly on a weekend to a car show, as it does for a rep to do 40,000 miles in his Vectra. It might be o.k if you are fairly flush but the cost of tax is part of the reason my Fiesta has been off the road for 5 years.

Yup, never gonna happen It would be nice, sure, but no-one is going to repeal this. And I agree the whole taxation thing is completel shat anyway. £190 a year to do maybe 3000 miles in my BMW, same price for doing 25k in my van. And I can't be driving both at once anyway. If the fuel duties weren't so rapacious anyway, they could easily have done away with RFL years ago and put it on fuel, much more fairerer.
