Trig's Show Photos - Ipswich Aviation Museum show 16/10

Recommended Posts

I go to quite a few car shows over the summer and take lots of photos so i thought instead of a new thread every time I'd just do the one and update it.

On Sunday i went to the Cars on the green show at Thurston near Bury St. Edmunds in Suffolk, It's ran by the Bury Retro Fords club so there was a heavy presents of old Fords.

It was the first time I've actually took my car to show, and apart from the heavy rain for the first hour which drenched me i had a good day.

Link to the full set is here http://www.flickr.com/photos/triggersca ... 928715378/

Anyway less chat more photos.

I think this was my car of the show, It's a genuine, Unrestored model, I was chatting to the owner about it for a while, He bought it from Beaulieu 4 years ago after the original first owner died, It had only 17000 miles on it then and has still only done 27000 miles, He's even driven to Le Mans in it.

It was mint, The interior was stunning and in a lovely shade of tan, it was just a shame he smoked in it and the ashtray of full of fag ends.

A nice selection :D

200000 Estate is cool 8)

99.48% of Renaults would have been smoked in in their home country anyhow. If anything he's just adding some authentic ambience.

This...

...is identical in year, model and colour (but in much better condition) to the first car I really drove anywhere aged 17. Strangely I have no desire to ever again pilot a Mk3 Escort.

Thanks! :D I'm pleased with the photos. This is the first time I've used my new camera, (Canon EOS 450D) and i thought that they didn't look that good to start of with on my LCD screen, they seemed very dark and even when i uploaded them to my PC i was a bit disappointed but for some reason they came out very clear once I've uploaded them to flickr. :D

Neat selection of cars - neat clean shots too - did you get any of the Nissan 300C? Those Visa GTI's got raped to keep their 205 cousins going - shame really - the pug is arguably a better looking car but the Visa had the practicality of 5 doors - clever marketing by PSA. The EOS D Canon range do suffer from the fault you mentioned - but it seems you've compensated for that well. Have fun with the camera this summer!

I wasn't to sure when i first got there as there was a white N reg Corsa 1.2 in RAT LOOK spec near me which i couldn't understand with it's rusty bumper, covered in stickers and odd wheel trims and a J reg Renault 5 Campus on display which isn't really something I'm interested at seeing at shows yet as well as a KA, Saxos and Pug 206's, but the other cars made up for it though.

And is that a genuine short-chassis quattro?

I believe so, I saw it last year at another show where they have a long straight where people can race there cars, It can't half fly, It's like a rocket. I thought it was a Sport though?.

A great set, Trig, I'm quite envious of your photo skills :) I liked that A40 Somerset rod a lot, fantastic paintwork and all the details done superbly. That Capri with the paint job just didn't do it for me, holes for the bumper mounts just left, front wheels duller than the rear and the tube bumpers should have worked, but were too small. I'd be happy to go home in that Sierra Cosworth, though. 8)

Thanks Alf, That the first time anyone has ever said that there envious of my photo skillz! It's reall yhe camera though, not me!.There was a big dent in the wing of the Somerset, According to the owner they had it at their wedding and a very drunken party guest fell forwards and ran head first in to it!, He said it ruinned his wedding day!.

Great work Trig nice big clear piccies are a WINNAR!Lots and lots of very very tasty cars to choose from, although I applaud the Austin A30s Custom skillz I think that the owner should have his eyes super-glued shut for crimes against wheelage, I don't mind what he's done to the car but the wheels ruin it for me but hey thats just my humble opinion.

This is super clean and very original, love it. As teenager, apart from lusting after mk1 Rover Sterlings, I'd always fancied an Orion Ghia as a first car. It would have had to be in two-tone Diamond White/Grey with Ford Pepperpots (Which I have a set of 5, just need an Orion to go with it) I always used to see one just like it around the Telford area in the late 90s.

The wheel trims on Orion also came on my mums old Mk3 Fiesta from new.

I'm in love with the green MKII Escort, ive seen some pics of this on Flickr before, its rare in that apart from not be messed with its an early car a 1975 L with vinyl seats also the colour Jade Green is very rare. I hope the owner does the right thing and keeps it just how it is, its almost impossible to see a MKII Escort that hasnt been chavved up these days.(If you have any others pictures of this car id love to see them, cheers.)

Wonderful selection of pics, and great variety of vehicles. I've seen that black Studebaker (?) pickup before, and I think it looks really mean!! Love it! The flash seems to reveal some rather alarming looking corrosion under the front wings of both those Farinas! I too love the Austin street rod, very cool, and a Pinto is probably quite a wise choice- enough poke to be usable without bankrupting the owner on fuel costs. Also loving the Mk 2 Cortina GT estate- hope it's going to be restored and not left looking ratty! Finlly, I LOVE that yellow HC Viva dragster- what a beast! 8)

Anal-retentive alert but I'm pretty sure these were Italy-only (2.0 taxation limit)... lovely and very rare though, I agree, run a de-bored M3 four-pot as I recall?

Yes you are correct, it seems i am a wally!.

For Portugal and Italy, due to their high engine taxes, a special model was created, the 320iS. This model was produced both in 2 and 4 door versions had a detuned version of the M3 engine. It was the same S14 engine but with 2.0l and 143 kW (192 hp)

Thanks for all the nice comments guys :P

The early TR7 fixed head would be the one I'd take home. Those early Speke built ones are getting hard to find now in un-molested condition. That one still has the correct black wheel trims found on the early cars ( they only lasted til March '77) and hopefully still the black rear panel between the lights. It would also have had a little square Leyland badge at the bottom of each front wing...but finding one with that still intact would be akin to finding a fried Mars bar in Gillian McKieths wee gob!
