Volksy
14 years ago as a newbee driver I was paying £500 on a Mini 1100 Special.. So that doesn't look too expensive to me.'Fraid if you've racked up loads of points before you've even passed your test most insurance companies won't touch you with a barge pole. You could try those companies that advertise in Lax Power and the like, but I wouldn't expect them to be overly cheap.I've just reinsured my Saab third party, after driving pool/rental cars for the last few years or being on a generic company policy, and they're charging me just short of £400. I'm 31 and have never claimed and have a clean licence (god knows how). The company i worked for no longer exists, so I dont have any no claims. Bah! Richard
Although points only count on your licence for three years and stay on it for four, most insurance companies count them for five years. Why not strike up a conversation with some local boy racers? If anybody knows where to get the cheapest insurance for bad boys it'll be them. To be honest £1000 doesn't sound that bad though, you'll have to console yourself with the fact that it'll go steadily down over the years. wuvvum
That sounds about par for the course from non-specialist insurers. When I got my license back after being banned for a year for speeding I got a quote of £1200 from Adrian Flux to go third party only on an Austin A35 . Compare that to the £960 I was paying at the age of 19 (but with a clean license) to insure a Saab 9000 Turbo. Most insurers will charge you through the nose if you have points. Might it be better to hold off a few months until some of your endorsements come off and you can get a more sensible price?
bones96
just had a quote for 510.90 thats better than the 1000+ i was quoted before
Richard
Grab that one while you can. After a misspent youth I'm now as clean a driver as you can get, in a low risk postcode, and my insurance wouldn't be far short of that without the NCD. wuvvum
Yup, £510 sounds pretty reasonable. I'd say go for it too.

I kept a clean licence for over 10 years before getting knobbed in the bum by GATSO's twice in a year. Anuses. Still, I live in a "very good" area, which helps a bit. Guest greenvanman
I tend to buy cars because they cost less than 200 quid and I'm old, so insurance groups are something I know nowt about. On that basis, isn't there something lower rated that the Fiesta you could go for? Unless you've already bought it, of course...

I got a trader'spolicy in the end for £450 less than what Flux had quoted me for just the Peanut. I never have really understood how insurance premiums are worked out... Pillock
Unfortunately the BA10 and the IN10 are really going to count against you.... insurance companies often don't give much of a stuff about the odd SP30 these days, but the IN10 is a bit of a two-fingered salute to them :(I got a good deal from Elephant, when I was a youngish (20) driver on a fastish (Group 14 Polo G40) car - £540. That's living in a bit of a hellhole too. However that was a clean licence. You should remember that although the offence can come off your licence after 4 years, if the insurance company specifically ask for any offences in the last 5 years you have to tell them, even if they're no longer down in print. If you don't, and they find out, you're going to be pretty uninsurable for a while!
MrRegieRitmo
So what do BA10, IN10 & SP30 stand for? (I know they're motoring offences, but specifically what?)
pandamonium
I know sp30 is speeding in a 30 zone, but the others I'm not sure...

Richard
I've had three SP30s and a CU30.For each of the SP30s I was booked for doing 14mph over the limit, once in a 30, once in a 60 and the last time was in a 50. I was actually asleep when I got the last one but the police either didn't notice or ignored it.
wuvvum
MS30 Play street offences..........What the Dickens is a "play street offence"? Sounds almost like a JDM minivan.
Richard
A Play Street is a street where no vehicles are allowed, except for access. I don't think I've ever seen one and I'd be surprised if they are still called that.
pandamonium
Spot check. Alan: Will this take long as I've just finished night shift and I'd like to get to bed?Plod: It's just a routine check.Alan: You won't find anything wrong with the car, the MOT is barely a week old... (Shows certificate)Plod: Your battery is not clamped down, thats 3 points and £60 fine..........You can imagine how the rest of my day went, trying to find out why the hell that happened. Apparently if, in an officers opinion, your vehicle is not roadworthy, their decision is pretty much final.
retrogeezer
Plod: Your battery is not clamped down, thats 3 points and £60 fine..........It should have failed the MOT on that, I'd have been back to the garage to ask what else they might have missed. r.welfare
Obviously long after the event, but if the ink on the MOT was still drying I'd have contacted the DoT and got them to come down on the tester like a ton of bricks, apparently you can get an MOT investigated within 6 weeks of the certificate if you suspect it's dodgy. Like I should have done when my 405 saloon got a clean ticket with no rear brakes and bushes that would have allowed the rear subframe to drop out... Back on topic - Bones, I think you'll struggle to get a good deal if you've been done for driving without insurance and while disqualified (!), but good luck to you. Richard
He did get a fairly good deal in the end.
