We went to a 2CV show at Cheddar once in our Imp , These 2CV people are the most non-judgemental friendly bunch of car nuts you could ever meet ( apart from the Imp lot ) , made to feel welcome , given beer and food even though we were total strangers in the wrong car.

Great report, but some corrections from Anorak's Corner.

 

The Blue 2CV van is an AKS400 - the largest of the 2CV vans. We didn't get the Acadiane either - all vans have been imported. A few RHD vans exist - either Belgian Post Office or Jersey special-builds, or converted in the UK more recently.

 

They did attempt to market the H van here, and three right-hookers were built. Only one survives.

 

The beige jeepy thing (not the correctly identified Bedouin but the one with the hood) is a Deuville Canjito - a modern kit.

 

The Dyane was outlasted by the 2CV by seven years.

 

I only learnt at the weekend that the blue Ami 8 service van with windows was available like that new, for those who had a fear of blind spots perhaps...

 

For Ami van lovers, the holy grail arrived on the Sunday - a right-hand drive 8 Service. Gorgeous.

 

I would try and get my photos up here but ReallyLoud's done a corking job of giving a flavour of the weekend. I had a ride around the field in the LN. Very odd having the 2CV soundtrack in what is effectively a Talbot Samba. My mate was toying with the idea of swapping his Wartburg estate for the LN and some cash. Tricky call!

Thank you for the comments and thanks for the ID's Louise & Dollywobbler on the 2 Citroens I missed out - and the amendments on the sloppy info - I knew that the Dyane last left the production line in 1983 and the 2CV in 1990, so I really should have checked that. Didn't know about the van info though, I guess the H van was too esoteric to take sales from transitman. I guess Citroen UK were trying to normalise the range for the generally conservative UK market - I recall the 2CV6 being reduced to a small back page feature on the range brochures towards the end of its life. Of course Citroen now play on their so called 'wacky' image of the past.

 

I had a chat with quite a few owners, all were very receptive and did their best to get back into the 2CV fold.....

 

Scoobypete, I only managed to take one shot of your car, having almost drained my camera battery last year snapping at it - its a rear shot as you drove out, but its of clear resolution - 2816 x 1880 px. PM me your email and get it over to you.

 

After whinging about the Blenheim Palace event on Seths thread, I went through some of the snaps earlier and concluded it wasn't a total waste of time. Like Seth, I'm just slightly disappointed after the amazing Vauxhall and BL shows I attended earlier this summer, that the Rootes one was so low-key - I reckon there were no more than 40 Rootes cars on the Monday. I recall going to a Rootes show sometime back in 1999 or 2000 at the same venue, and I struggled to choose which cars to snap at with my limited number of 35mm exposures. Not only that but there was a Lancaster/Spitfire/Hurricane fly past. Anyway, here's a selection of the cars. Maybe I expect too much...

 

 

Not sure what stand this was again, but the guys on here were really helpful and chatty.

 

 

This was neat, one of my faves.

 

 

 

This got so much attention, especially from noisy kids. I had to visit the car at least 20 times to get a clear shot.

 

 

 

I really like these early 70's TVRs, they've lost a lot of charm over the years - the late ones are bit too garish but I guess its all about the noise and driving experience.

 

 

This was leaving as I got in. Shame, its a really late model too.

 

 

 

 

 

I think this was the best car of the day.

 

 

I'm sure I've seen even later ones of these - maybe even a Y plated one knocking around.

 

 

Odd headlamp arrangement - might have worked without the indicators off the grill.

 

 

 

 

Mum had one of these when I was little, it was sold after she discovered I could open the rear window to throw my toy cars out when in motion.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I was very close to buying one of these as my first car - I decided against it as the owner had welded the bucket seats to the floor and I couldn't get my 6'2" lanky frame to fit in it.

This was neat, but I think the MKIII Cortina is a better balanced car.

The owner of this car had recently picked it up from an elderly lady who's family had owned it since new. Its the usual proverbial dream find - It was MOT'd every year, never driven in the rain, garaged all its life etc. The body had evidence of parking scrapes and the odd ding, but full credit to the new owner who intends to keep the car as it is.

Dozens of mint unraced high performance mk1 Escorts. Possibly the most valuable group of cars in the show, or certainly close to the value of the brace of Jags on display. There were some nervous faces from the owners as some young kids played around close to the cars.

That looks good to me! Is it just me who sees later Cortina styling cues in that Taunus, especially in the lower half? I do quite like those Talbot Avengers, I cant ever remember seeing them. Funny how they look so alike to the Ital, considering both were a rehash of something older.

Looking at your photos Blenheim would have been much better as a one day show if everyone had turned up that did across the two days. There was none of that OSF action, and I don't recall seeing a single Volvo. Would have been nice to have seen that Minx too. I think we saw the Westminster on his way there at the A40/A34 roundabout.

The similarities are even more apparent if you see the estate version of that Taunus - the Cortina Mk4 estate hardly changed at all from it.

A few spots that I found inbetween shows from the last few weeks.

 

 

I know this was never badged as such, but its the same kind of thing. These are still quite cheap for what they are, like the 500SEC mercs they represent tremendous value for money when you think how much they cost originally and quite a few survive.

 

 

Another brand that seems to last well are Hondas.

 

 

 

Not sure if this represents good value for money - didn't get a chance to check whether its a ground up resto or a patched up horror. Looks ok to me, but I have to say if I was going to spend 8K on a coupe I'd get a Manta A and TA22 Celica.

 

 

Spotted this a while back but it deserved a better picture.

 

 

A brace of BL beauties outside a house where DH Lawerence once lived. There were 2 other minors and a Triumph 2000 stored there too.

 

 

Nice to see a late 3 door, most of the Series 3 cars I stumble across tend to be 4 doors.

 

 

I don't recall seeing such an early D21 Nissan. They made these in Mexico up until 2 years ago.

Spent the Saturday at the Beaulieu autojumble, good to have seen Nigel Bickle and cohorts selling what can only realistically be described as shite on their stall. I gladly bought a 1982 copy of a Parkers price guide, 1985 Thames Valley trader (includes a £950 mk1 Escort RS, a pair of expired Jensens for £300 and a brand new Talbot Alpine for 5K) and a 1978 Motorshow edition of the British Leyland range, for the princely sum of £3. Bargain.

 

I also picked up a neat selection of toy cars, but the findings are getting scarcer, as the prices on virtually everything has gone up - one plus is that it was cheaper to get into the event this year and the weather just about held out after Saturday lunchtime.

Ever present at the event are the AA, usually with some suitable material. There was also a Minor and few vintage bikes.

 

 

11K for this GTV, but it had been restored from the ground up. The mini cooper to the left of it had a 32K price tag...

 

 

I sold one of these in solid condition with no MOT for £500 about 5 years ago. I suspect that this one was going for a bit more.

 

 

Not sure why you'd want a 6 wheeled Moke.

 

 

 

 

I think this had a 2K price tag, but close inspection of those rear wings revealed worrying bubbles. The colour suits the car well.

That yellow R5 has been doing the ebay circuit recently, always seems to fetch a decent amount though.

 

Trouble is, as you say, if the rear wings are bubbling its bad news as everything behind it will be pretty nasty too and a fairly expensive repair.

That P100 was in amazing condition!

 

Also, the "Reliant Sabre" was badged Sabra so may actually be an Israeli one?

I'm a bit gutted i didn't go, Sadly Beaulieu isn't just around the corner for me so I'd have to stay for the weekend which is expensive seeing i only stayed there back in May for the last Autojumble, I will try and get to the international one next year as I've never been to the bigger show before.
