brammy777
The Granada and silver Cortina could have been 1990. Great shots. I dont know how you manage to unearth such gems.

reallyloud
Found a few more pics that I didn't post up and a few from London - and some scrappy ones too. Didn't know this was a Seat until I checked the DVLA database - the Fiat 600 production ceased in 1970, but continued in Argentina, Spain and Yugoslavia. Great cars in their time. This one managed to keep away from the ditches. Joys of joys - not seen one of these in a long long time. There was also another mk1 Transit actually being used as builders van - too risky to snap it though so I let it go. One of the few Datsuns that have been increasing in numbers are the Z cars, I suspect this one is an import. Showing her arse. How cool is this? I got my mate into spotting shite cars now. This lives up the road from him and he suspected that this is the kind of 'crap' I'd like. Birzarrely I saw two yesterday. Scoobypete, that yard is the one I visited today in Wantage, its called Haynes Brothers. They still have 2 Subaru pick ups there might yield useful bits. Asides from getting some bits for my Peugeot I came across these: http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4010/4632376443_4e452a8d4f_o.jpg This was new here, 2200HL model. The engine looked a lot smaller though. It joins 2 Acclaims, A SD1, Accord, TR7, Rover P6, Lada Riva, Renault 4 Van, 2 beetles, 2 Fiat X1/9 and Fiat 1100. The owners making himself a retro scrapyard! And finally this oddity. I saw it last time I went in and did some research and the best I can come up with is a Reliant Sabre. The fibreglass body seemed well formed and of a thick quality, the chassis properly designed and fabricated and uses what appears to be a BL Spitfire window frame - which would tally up with a Sabre. But the engine is an early Austin A series (I think) but the differential was huge. There was evidence of owner botches (wood transmission tunnel, bottom mounted side door hinges etc) but thought I'd throw it on here to get a positive ID. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3389/4632972150_7d37900734_o.jpg http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4008/4632971980_66862ae450_o.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3378/4632375927_df1eb280fa_o.jpg http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4005/4632375735_21acbfc3a5_o.jpg [/img]
brammy777
Good spots again, I look forward to these updates! I recognise the 600 and Mini, both in the Notting Hill area? That Chevrolet Monza is fantastic, I dont think Ive ever seen one, even in pictures.

Mr_Bo11ox
Wow i've never seen an A series with 'austin' cast into the block before, its probably out of an A35 or something.

Calum_B
Great photos! That engine is actually a B-Series I believe, and with a casting like that probably from a A40/A55 Cambridge (depending on whether it was a 1.2, or 1.5) EDIT: This Sabre has the same arches and bodyline - just the rear lights and bootlid shapes seem to be different. They made some Sabre 4s but they seem to have been made with the FOrd 4-pot from the Consul
seth
The way that steering box hangs right out in front remids me of Scaryoldcortina's A40 special/rod so perhaps the chassis under that is all A40? Lever arm front suspension too.Is the 500 estate in Ealing?Superb spots RL
Spottedlaurel
Excellent update! Very early Camry there. I do like that Victor estate as well, I remember a friend’s one having a rough one in the late-70s. I’ve seen the Blues Brothers-esque Plymouth before, in Suffolk:
Captain Mainwaring
Fascinating spots, RL, as always. 'Hmm, I know, let's take the 200, which weighs about the same as a pub, and make a sporty coupé out of it!' 'Yes, good idea, let's'.

The "Austin" casting in the block looks almost pre war.

barrett
I reckon Seth and Angry Dicky are right and that it is a Devon/Somerset chassis, with an Ashley Special shell (think it is the predecessor of the Sabre, where Reliant modified the moulds)Most definitely. Shame it's in such a state, nice looking cars.Great spots as usual, I really don't know how you do it!
reallyloud
Typically I chose the wettest day to attend the Enfield Pageant and Autojumble. One thing I can salvage from the damp experience is that I didn't get too many people in the way of the shots. Its been mentioned that the price has gone up to £9.00 a day, so you plan to stay the whole weekend as a spectator, you shell out £27.00 for the weekend, which is pretty expensive. On top of that the rainwater had an adverse effect on my camera and screwed up the focusing...... But here's a selection of a few of the more interesting cars: Whats the difference between a Transit and Custom? If only there was someone qualified on this forum to answer this..... This was part of a local custom classic car group, mostly American stuff with everything from Native American vans loaded full of dream catcher tat to confederation flagged pick ups but this Transit was quite restrained - this really looks like something Ford might have produced after a RS catalogue ram raid. I like it. 2 examples from the hard working 300C owners club. I remember reading about this model years ago in Classic car magazine, glad to have finally seen one. For sale for £800. Just what a Granada needs. This was for sale, bog standard quite solid LX version. They wanted £1500, which is still cheap enough for an owner of a rusty integrale to strip the car down and rape the body. Looks like they let the A-Team loose on this. I didn't check the rear for a cannon that fired out root vegetables. Standard Austin version, but does illustrate what a crying shame that they never produced a MG version in this colour. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4039/4657304854_bec7a0673f_b.jpg http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4043/4657303898_c247350ac1_b.jpg http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4049/4656682449_0a32704974_b.jpg http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4005/4656682201_5ae47a48b2_b.jpg Crayford conversion I think http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4006/4656681621_e65ebf8586_b.jpg More than likely to be a South African model, possibly imported in 1980, hence the V plate. When were the first P100's registered? http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4003/4657302674_5404a69eb3_b.jpg I think this is what Withnail ended up in after his joyride. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4010/4656680747_7c79cd1808_b.jpg I love Series A Mantas, no matter what people do to them. To be fair this was properly restored and modified despite the colour coded bumpers. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4005/4657302016_f1bb2702d4_b.jpg V8 version http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4006/4656680067_8a48a8a2e4_b.jpg http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4063/4656679903_c35fa464a2_b.jpg 2 of 4 of these magnicient cars shown here. The others were rusty chassis with elements of the front end and the other was a black body in the process of a resto. I didn't even know they did these as 4 doors. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4028/4656678207_2554b75dd6_b.jpg This is what British holidays was all about in the 60's and 70's - steamy windows and camping. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4037/4656679253_9542dc676f_b.jpg http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4010/4657300160_b0d7eecb41_b.jpg http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4051/4657301282_f49b1ec919_b.jpg http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4029/4656677905_ea204f5eec_b.jpg http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4069/4656676939_e9f1d42661_b.jpg http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4011/4656677077_54bb7bf742_b.jpg http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4032/4657298504_e8bc15c64b_b.jpg http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4008/4657297260_b5524a6f97_b.jpg http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4064/4656674347_f59490b51c_b.jpg I expect the attendance improved considerably over the Sunday and Monday but I think if it goes over a tenner, then I won't bother next year. Bromleys coming up, and thats the same price. That event has far more cars but more bouncy castles.
brammy777
Good spots! The first Freight Rover is a delight, truly a miracle its still running. That Granny estate is utterly ludicrus, why?!?! trigger
Fab stuff! , I'm thinking about going to Bromely next weekend but it's a 4 hour round trip just getting there and back so not sure yet. seth
A real pity you picked the Saturday,. Sunday was beautiful once the clouds cleared in the late morning! As ever you've found loads of things we totally missed especially as we didn't go into the car park.. I thought the Facel display was one of the best. To get the four cars there in that progressive state must have been a struggle to organise. We had a good look round the "POO" hunter estate. FredTransit
But here's a selection of a few of the more interesting cars: Whats the difference between a Transit and Custom? If only there was someone qualified on this forum to answer this..... Custom is a model of transit, only the Mk1s had a wing badge for it. The Custom model survived into the Mk2, but the badge moved to the back door, and became a transfer.

Spottedlaurel
Agreed, smashing pic's as ever. I went to Enfiend once or twice in the '90s, I remember getting some good brochures in the autojumble. Trigger, I used to go to Bromley for the day from further into East Anglia than Ipswich. You do have to be prepared to get there very early though - big old queues. Too much to see in one day really, as most of the interesting stuff is scattered around the one-make parking area.
