Travelling with a camera: my photo scans from the early 90's

The simca does indeed have a turbo engine. The owner is typically eccentric, as you might expect for such a unique car.

I've attached a few pre bank holiday spots, most of which were in a few small villages outside of Oxford. Its amazing what is still out there, if you snoop around enough.

Early 25, I remember seeing one as a kid and thinking how modern it looked.

Posted Image

Great to see a Maestro with its original style plates. The metal bumpers signify the pov spec models I think.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Always a few mid eighties japanese stuff lurking around.

Posted Image

A bit of a shame I couldn't get the front of this, but I'm sure its the double square headlamp version, for those curious about that.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Yet another 305 estate, this one however looks destined to doom.

Posted Image

....and this honey in front of a pub. The run out Solaras and Alpines had Minx or Rapier stickers in a shameless last minute Rootes swansong - I think it designated the trim levels. It was all over by the time this Solara left the production line.

These are spots in my local scrappy.

The yard always has something of interest, and the owner tends to keep the older cars for longer - at the moment 2 Acclaims, a Rover P6, R4 Van, Fiat 1100, TR7 and Fiat X1/9 are currently slowly decaying. Previous stars - like the Renault 30 and mk1 Astra have either been removed or crushed.

I took a day out to visit a resto company in Kent, who also deal with a bit of film work. The cars here might look familiar to some of you....

A lovely brace of Rootes stuff. Owner also owns the Chrysler 180 further back in this thread.

A rare colour for the Avenger - the interior and headlining also finished in lilac.

Amazingly solid example

Series 1 305, I think its a S model.

TWR had a bit of dabbling with Mazda in the 80's - they mainly dealt with Jaguar but did some work on RX7's and 626 coupes. They also sold bodykits for the 323 - the car is quite well equiped with a 5 speed gear box, rev counter and rear wiper but the engine is standard as far as I could work out.

Shitting Nora, what a haul!!!!There's any number of cool bits I would welcome into my [ficticious] shite museum, Solara, Alpine, Avenger and Sunbeam all get to go to the VIP room to drink crystal and be sucked off by adoring 19 year old groupies. I's happily roll about in that T-plated E23 beemer too, very sexy. I think that Golf was owned by my mate at one point, but seeing as he goes through about 94 VAG products a year that is unsurprising.

Wow! Difficult to know what to single out for comment. Obviously the Bluebird and Urvan are both pleasing to me, Prelude looks a cracker, and the first Allegro is of personal interest as that VGV registration suggests it started its life near me in Suffolk. Our village dealer had cars on GV plates, but odds are it's probably from one of the larger dealers in Ipswich or Sudbury.Amazing that the Triumph is also on an 'X', what extraordinary places BL showrooms must've been back then - if someone walked in off the street with a fairly open mind how did the dealer decide what to sell them?! Probably whatever had been lurking around in storage and needing shifting the most?...Edit: About the Haynes museum, I went only last Friday as we were on holiday down that way. I'd been before some 15 or so years ago, and it's expanded since then. However, the cars are rather crammed in and are 'protected' by a rope, so getting decent pic's beyond the odd detail shot is rather difficult (impossible in many cases). The car park attracts a few interesting cars however, so you might find some material there (as I did).

Thanks for the compliments, Its a real bonus that the cars I like happen to be appriciated by Autoshite.

I decided to risk the damp weather by checking out a local event a few miles from me. Again the contents of the car park are of more interest than most of the cars in the show, with a few exceptions.

Looks alright on minilites.

Posted Image

In tip top condition and only a 900cc model.

Posted Image

This was a favourite of mine too.

Posted Image

I think I've seen this at some Datsun show in the past, its hydraulics must be giving the car some real stress. Quite rusty and looks like it needs work asap.

At the show, there were no real surprises but this batch would be my pick of the crop.

Posted Image

Great colour to have on a car this size. Is this an original Ford hue?

Posted Image

One of the few British GT's I'd quite willingly own.

Posted Image

South African Import, with Michelotti style on a Austin ADO16. Quite a convincing job for the BLMC Overseas styling dept.

Posted Image

These normally have square headlamps.

Posted Image

A very late 2500 - don't think many were on an S plate.

There was a good selection of Triumphs, the dolomites and 2000/2500 models in particular. Just as well really as they're the most interesting Triumphs in my eyes.

Aha, that possibly solves a small mystery - I saw the 300C/Cedric club's red 260C and Cedric 130 being hauled round the M25 yesterday, I presumed they were off to a show somewhere and I imagine this was it?Ventora on Rostyles looks confusing, I initially thought it was a VX4/90 but they didn't get those twin lights that early, did they?

  • 2 weeks later...

Did my usual car park search at Beaulieu, and felt a little let down by the lack of anything really interesting. The event itself is always worth attending simply due to the volume of odd, interesting and varied things for sale. The good weather held out so therefore dehydration and aching legs are my only complaints. Didn't spend much neither.

A selection of my faves of the international selection:

Posted Image

A kid asked me why was I taking a picture of this, which I suppose was a perfectly reasonable question. I had to be polite in my answer as his parents were within earshot.

Posted Image

Posted Image

I think I'm right in assuming a batch of the last models were bought by the government in 1973.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

TS version

Posted Image

Posted Image

This is a genuine rarity - it was produced for the Italian government. The normal Volumetrico Abarth were only sold as 2 doors - this one has Lancia spec including a Lancia colour palette and dials.

Shame the owner thought putting as much crap as he could load on this Escort was a good idea.

This was quite neat, again illustrating what a pretty car the 405 is.

This was quite cheap compared to some of the other cars - I think they wanted £1700.

I saw this mentioned in a recent CCW I think. Its actually a factory prototype and has just been restored.

Great photos as ever M'loud. Volvo PV van is super cool.

So many to choose from, brilliant pics. This Herald hatch is fab, they should have made them.

Some great snaps!

Especially like the Ensign.

One thing that puzzles me is the photos are on Flickr, but don't appear in your photostream??

Hopefully you'll add the Maxis and Triumphs to :-

  • 1 month later...

Few shots I took yesterday at the NEC classic car show - its not cheap, the light is notoriously bad inside the venue (and I rarely use the flash) and the weather was dreadful but these made up for it.

Posted Image

Pre-production 480, Volvo were worried that their safety image would be tarnished by putting this into production. Shame really - I bought loads of car design magazines off the actual designer about 3 years ago too.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Love these BMWs. Quite happily drive one around - saloons seem to be reasonable priced too.

Ideal meals on wheels candidate.

Not sure what the story is about the front end - whether it was damaged in transit or bought like this.

Part of the Footman James stand. Looks like this one is finished. The car itself wasn't in great condition.

Posted Image

Uber rare Birotor. Citroen crushed most of these cars, due to the massive thirst which at the time didn't fit too well with the image Citroen were trying to convey. Odd and wrong decision.

Posted Image

Displayed on the Citroen stand, as this car was to become the CX. Pininfarina comissioned the design for BLMC as a replacement for the Landcrab series. They were told to hop it and Citroen ended up with one of the worlds most beautiful saloons.

Posted Image

Another one off. 5 of these were made into RHD.

Posted Image

I'd love a standard Delta....

Posted Image

But not as much as a 304. Still used as a daily driver too.

Posted Image

And a few more I found I had taken over the last month, that I forgot to post up.

Posted Image

Posted Image

I might have posted this on a bickle hijack thread, but I might as well put it here. I was slightly overwhelmed by this spot. Girlfriend was indifferent and said nothing for the rest of the journey.

I think these cars may have appeared elsewhere on someones spotted thread - they're all in a fairly well known area of Brighton.

I've got loads more from the NEC classic car show, which I'll post later.
