so my renewal came through for the Audi today (AA Insurance)£317 Fully Comp, 9 years protected no claims, £250 excess and windscreen cover.A fair bit up on last year so off I pop to a comparrison website. In go all my details and guess what the best quote was.....AA Insurance £184.37, protected no claims, windscreen cover and £250 excess, exactly the same cover they've quoted me £317 for!!!!Odd I thought so I ring them....I explain exactly what I've done and despite their renewal letter they say they can do it for me for £264 if I agree over the phone.....excuse me??? Your quoting me £184 online with a comparrison site? I dont understand - just do it me at the £184 price.Apparently they cant get anywhere near that quote, they explain, WTF!!!! your quoting it me online.Ahh but you get a discount online sir...£120 is a pretty good fooking discount I go on....Anyway long and the short of it is my renewal is rubbish even though with one quick phone call they'll drop it by £50 so I now have to cancel my policy with my insururers to take out a new policy with my insurers for a price they apparently can't do???Anyone else as confused as me?

I get the same rigmarole with elephant every year.. have to phone up and cancel then take out a new policy online as its hundreds of pounds cheaper. They of course dont send my proof of no claims through when i cancel, then write me a nasty letter asking why i have not provided my proof to them when i took out the new policyCue sarcastic letter back pointing out i havent sent my proof of no claims because they havent sent me it for me to send it back to them..Confused? Same farce every year... buts its worth it to save a couple of hundred quid.

I use to have similar issues, although not to that extent. Now I've got a trader's policy I pretty much have to take whatever renewal quote they give me as there's not a lot of competition and no online quote system. It's still a f***ing hell of a lot cheaper than insuring twelve vehicles individually though...

I tend to go to the moneysavingexpert web site and use five search engines such as confused.com etc - this takes about 10 mins and covers nearly all the market. Bit of a result really as I managed to insure my estate for about £20 more a year than the saloon (with the same cover level), and provided I renew with AA on it next year I get 6 yrs NCB on the second policy to match the first one 8)

Dave- as a Fifer you could do worse than checking with McKerchar Insurance in Bell Street in Dundee 01382 223408. They are always very close to the cheapest online deals I can find and they have the advantage that I can walk into their office and speak to a real person if I have to. I don't have to pretend to be a new customer every year either.

I may give them a shout. I've got a claim in at the moment with elephant after my motor went on fire last august... and they have been a NIGHTMARE... trying every trick in the book to get out of paying up. The stupid thing is the car in question was work £2k maximum, yet they've now run themselves up a storage bill well in excess of that with all the time they've spent trying not to pay me. Where's the sense in that?
