pogweasel
Anyone got anything for sale REALLY cheap at the minute?Penniless Idiot Friend (yes that one) landed himself with a job driving a bakery van after 14 months on the nat king cole. Downside is that it's a 4am start and that start is 8 miles away.... meaning that his long-suffering wife has to take him there, getting baby out of bed in the process. Not ideal. So he's aksed me to find some no-frills transport. Absolutely anything considered as long as it vaguely runs/drives/starts/stops and has some MoT on it. 'ongoing' mechanical maladies are not a problem, neither is general / bodgable body grot. Saloons / hatches / wagons basically anything that can be driven on a standard post-97 license. If you have anything suitable in your tat-arsenal please LMK, ideally within about an hour of Biggleswade, Bedfordshire. Thanks, P.Weasel Esq.
Albert Ross
Kinell............I just passed on the joy of a 165ooo mile 1999 Polo Diesel for 200 quid to my Neice.....she jumped at it. I was offered it at 2pm on Sunday. By 3, she had paid the deposit. They're out there. Best 'o' luck.

pogweasel
It's 8 miles up the A1, at 4 am - I'd give it less than a week before he's squashed by a somniac lithuanian trucker on a bike. Tomos would be comedic though.

If he wears some hi-vis gear then fits good lights and a set of tri-bars the journey shouldn't take longer than 35 minutes after a month or so. Cavcraft
Any idea of a rough budget? As much as it utterly pains me to admit it in public I have a G*lf (diseasel) in my garage which is due to go for an MOT soon and there's no way on earth I'm going to be seen in public in it unless absolutely neccessary. Or because I've run out of fuel in my daily and I'm going up the M6 to meet F.T.
VWPowered
nothing wrong with a golf diesel, i've had afew of them, never let me down
Pillock
Is it a Mk2 GTD? They're actually pretty rapid, there's some simple finger-tuning you can do a la Isuzu 1.7TD to get boost pressures up without spending too much cash.Guy used to drag-race one in the VWDRC, hell of a lot of smoke but it was consistently quick. VWPowered
france got a Mk1 GTD too not seen any in the uk, i've had afew Mk2 Diesels both turbo and non turbo, the non turbo's are very bad, sluggish, but whap a turbo on and how different a car it becomes.. Cavcraft
1995 whatever 'Mk' that is? It's not a turbo though, or if it is it's worse than I thought. The rev counter moves quicker than Kerry Katona's eyeballs after she's been on the old Columbian marching powder yet the car doesn't actually seem to be getting anywhere. I think the 0-60 times are measured with a calendar.
VWPowered
sounds like a mk3 which were lardy
Cavcraft
Indeed. I can't and won't promise to be a fan of any G*lf sorry but this really does take dull to a new level. And I mostly drive Vauxhalls so I know dull when I see it It's also a pretty mingebag spec'd one too, keep fit windows, colour and interior by John Major and seats that don't budge an inch even with a fat bastard like me at the helm. Most amusing when cornering or driving over anything more substantial than a sheet of bog roll as I just seem to slide about on the seat.Economy seems bloody good though, I'll give it that. And the fact it can fit in my garage so I don't have to suffer the indignity of it being outside and have people thinking it's mine
Milford Cubicle
Mk3s aren't that lardy, they're quite lightly-built... well, they rust competently anyway.I had a Mk3 1.9D and it wasn't that bad really, although far from quick it's quite a pleasant engine to use and once up to speed it would happily romp along with the quicker motorway traffic.I'm with you on the horrible seats Cavette, it's the main reason I stopped using it. It made me sit in a sort of hunched but pushed forward position and did my back in.
