bigstraight6 Posted August 23, 2009 Share Posted August 23, 2009 Learned colleagues, whilst checking under the bonnet of old fatha's jalopy earlier I noticed the brake master cylinder cap was missing, this was no doubt removed for fluid removal/top up purposes when the car was at the local garage having some MOT failure related work on the back brakes.The old folks have been driving the car around in this state for over a week, they are going back to the garage tomorrow, do you thing it would be wise for them to insist on the brake fluid being changed, or would no harm have been done?..... Albert Ross Posted August 23, 2009 Share Posted August 23, 2009 I would certainly ask for it to be checked due to it's hygroscopic nature, that and I would question the validity of the MOT certificate with a container having the lid missing......That is in fact a fail point. Station Posted August 23, 2009 Share Posted August 23, 2009 I wouldn't, purely because with brakes 'If It Works, Leave It Alone'. If any debris has entered the M/C, then it will only back up and bring air into the system when the fluid is drained. You'll have to either replace or clean the M/C.
