Late 2004, moved Jan 2005, it was only the second time i'd been abroad (first time was greece 2 years before) didnt have anything keeping me in the UK, moved here with my Ex, the relationship fizzled out and i decided to stay, got a place, met the misses, now have 2 kids, i like the fact i can walk outside and hear nothing, busy here is seeing more than a car an hour, can work on the cars in fact leave tools everywhere and car parts and no-one moans/steals/tampers with anything, in fact got 10 motors here at the moment lol and nothings ever been said, in fact my stock rotation is much faster than the ford specialist around the corner

only thing cheaper in france to the uk is wine and houses, everything else is normally top dollar or shite, if you dont mind paying a little delivery you can get pretty much anything you like from the interweb, they say the only thing that lets down france is the french but actually they are a welcoming lot, only seen maybe 2 frenchies with clubfoot :lol:

My father-in-law lives in Normandie. Gorgeous country house, lots of land. Biggest issues are feeling a bit cut off, so you seek out the ex-pats, so you don't get on with the locals so much. The laid back lifestle is certainly appealing and I can't help thinking that my GCSE French would only get better with actual use!Biggest issue is that you sell up in the UK, you might not be able to afford to come back...

My better half is French and on our last trip over there we had a look in the estate agent's window. It seems French people don't really like old houses, they tend to knock them down and build a new one. This makes old houses dazzlingly good value, especially out of the big towns. We looked at one house that was listed as 5 bedrooms, except for the other 2 bedrooms in the attic.... The garden was described as average size, to be honest it was about the size of 4 tennis courts, there were outbuildings galore and you could have had a cracking game of frisbee in the kitchen. Our average house in Bedfordshire, £250k. Mortgage remaining, £100k. House in France, £100k leaving £50k in reserve and mortgage free. Tempting is not the word :?

I could be very tempted by France but there are two issues. 1- Mrs L isn't overly keen on France and 2. I have no idea what I would do for any sort of actual income. And anyway, if I was going to emigrate it would probably be a Greek island. Or New Zealand.

I emigrated to Scotland when i was 6..then back to Australia when i was 15..then back to Scotland at 18..then to America for two years..1989 went to Spain for 7 months..then Munich for 2 years ..1992 onto Berlin..1997 came to New Zealand with $60..and apart from 1000s of photos..a crapped out car and a small dog...after 12 years...i still dont have much more to show for it!
