RedSparrow Posted August 14, 2009 Share Posted August 14, 2009 I realised that I have very few pics of any of my motors, past or present, so I decided to do something about it.Took the Triumph out today. I had planned to go to a nearby reservior (to check the level) but the traffic was bad due to brats being off school etc. So drove to a stretch of seafront nearby called Pett Level. I like it as it reminds me a bit of some of the scenery in Mad Max, which this forum has re-kindled my interest in lately. I am sorry if this is boring. I’ll sometimes take a pic of mine if I see somewhere scenic or as an extra shot when I’m out somewhere for work (looking at a pic now next to my desk, with my old 240K parked up in a rather attractive set of old barns which have now been redeveloped). mnde Posted August 14, 2009 Share Posted August 14, 2009 Those pics make me nostalgic for my Dad's old TR7. Persian Aqua Blue soft top, Y reg. He took it with him when he moved up north and went stupidly overboard on restoration and upgrades with a specialist that I didn't think it needed. Starting with putting ^that type of alloy wheels (they are nice!) on it and having the suspension lowered and stiffened, and moved on to ordering a new Rover V8 engine and SD1 rear axle and respray and even talked about getting a power steering conversion. It spent years in the workshop stripped down and was never finished. He ended up agreeing a lump sum payment + the car to settle the bill and feeling really crap about the whole affair, and vows never to buy another classic car again I've got a few photos I'll try and scan if I get the chance. EDIT: I only got to drive it once, and that was before he moved - just to reverse it off the driveway! I really like 'em... but unfortunately my other half doesn't! I reckon it was at the stage were designers and engineers were getting 50/50 input on the shape of the car I think, which is why it looks a bit funny. shite_meister Posted August 14, 2009 Share Posted August 14, 2009 Great car-there really is a satisfying feeling about seeing a TR7, its like a big two fingered salute to the bearded anal snobs that were discussed in a recent post, very nice and I like seeing cars with loads of scenery and space-it makes me want to jump into the picture and drive it! I quite like the fact it looks a bit rough though.Driving a TR7 is a bit like driving a van that suddenly turns into a sports car at about 35mph - Really tourquey! Saying that anything over 65 feels terrifying, so as long as you stay at 35-65 mph its great fun. My one has a 16v dolly engine, the V8s must be bloody lethal!Enjoying all your 'scenic shite' pics, they look like they're from car brochures! keep 'em coming! fotorabia Posted August 15, 2009 Share Posted August 15, 2009 My ol grandad replaced his V12 injected E-Type roadster with a new green TR7 with green tartan cloth..this was on the the island of Islay..the Jag kept bottoming out on the bad roads..i have to admit he hated the TR7....not quite on par with with his Scottish supercar....then he died....nevertheless i like them and their wurf big bucks here in NZ. This is my old Holden HQ ute in Island Bay in Wellington where i lived for 5 years in a decrepit coastal cottage...i had no garage...so i had to hose the ute weekly and embalmed it in vaseline...that shiny new paint hid a horror of bog and filler...i at least still got $750 for it and bought the Viva for $500.. anyways..nice TR7 mate...
