2002 Mercedes ML270 CDi, ALMOST absolutely mint, £750, Buckinghamshire

Gents,

I am selling this on behalf of a very good friend of mine, Mark, who is terminally ill with cancer. Mark bought the ML in 2012 from the first owner. This car has never towed anything, although it comes with a towbar, has never seen any pets or children and is pretty much mint.

2002 270 CDi (5 cylinder) engine

5 speed automatic transmission

140k miles

A lot of history, receipts, handbooks, etc all present

MoT until May 2019

Taxed to get you home

Comes with 1/3 of tank of diesel

Good spec with dark grey leather interior, heated and electric front seats, cruise control, a/c, Blue-tooth connection to stereo, side steps, blacked out rear windows, nice alloys with good tyres and the usual electric toys. Everything works. The interior is absolutely mint with no significant wear on the seats and no stains or smells. Carpets, including in the boot are as new and the headlining is unmarked. There is a load-liner in the boot.

Externally, only the driver's side wing mirror glass looks like it's pissed itself, otherwise near enough mint with no evidence of any rust, marks or scratches, although the car needs a wash - see photos. The side steps were fitted shortly after Mark bought the ML and from what I recall they weren't cheap. The alloy wheels are mint.

The ML starts on the button, all dashboard lights come on and go off promptly. The engine runs smooth and two days ago had the injector seals done, with receipt to prove. Drivetrain, suspension and steering are perfect, with no clonks, rattles or looseness that you get in tired 4x4s. Brakes are good and strong. Front tyres are as new, rears are half-worn.

I have all the paperwork here, including a signed V5. Price is (see page 2). Car is with me in Buckinghamshire, 5 mins from M40 J3. Would make a perfect tow car / winter car / family SUV. My wife and I already have a pair of SUVs and I have three toys, which means that I cannot justify buying this car for myself, however if my circumstances were different I would have taken this on the spot.

Have some pics:

I'm quite keen on this. Odd question though, and I don't know if you're anywhere near it to find this out, but we have three car seats for the little Optixes and want to fit them across the back seat. I need to find out the overall width and the width of each seat individually.

Pending an answer to that (I'll do some googling) I'm very interested.

No problem, the car is parked outside my house.

Overall width of the back seat is 135cm, the two main seats are 55cm wide (each) and the centre part of the seat is 25cm wide.

Sorry to hear about your friend, difficult and sad times I'm sure.

These are lovely motors to drive, mirror glass must be a common thing, replacements here...

Agreed - really nice car. Wish I could persuade my dad...

Heated glass isn't that dear, either:

Half an hour ago I placed an ad for the ML on Facebook Marketplace with an asking price of £1,650 making myself clear that I am not accepting offers.

I’ve already had two responses, one asking for my best price and the other was an offer of £1k and he will collect tonight. I really hate selling cars.

I forgot to say that I drove the ML 60 miles from Hertfordshire back home today and it genuinely drove spot on.

On the motorway it cruises in silence at 70-80MPH with the engine turning over at less than 3,000 revs in fifth gear. It doesn’t feel slow but you have to get used to the long travel throttle pedal, like all Mercs.

The heated seat kept my bum warm, the sound system sounds great and the view over the roofs of normal cars is superb, it feels like you are sitting at 1st floor level, much higher than in my Tucson.

If I didn’t have my W124 I would definitely buy this but I just can’t justify adding a sixth car to my fleet. The lease on my daily has another two years left to run and my wife’s car has three more years.

I am trying to convince my BIL to sell his Volvo V70 and have this instead. I don’t want this going to someone who will not appreciate how lovely this car is.

Generally these are great cars and this has just had the all important injector seats done (not that cheap a job).

Had one for years and really if I'd looked after it from the beginning as well as I did at the end it would have been a cracking motor. There's so many horror stories on the internet about them which are complete bullshit. They're easy to work on, don't rot badly, so comfy to drive and the main mechanics go on for ever.

Perfect colour combination on that one too.

That will (hopefully) sell easy.

I hope so for your mate and good on you for helping him out at such an awful bloody time.

Little update:

I’ve given the ML a quick wash and noted a virtually complete absence of any scratches or scuffs but, in direct sunlight, there is evidence of swirl marks on the two flanks. I recall Mark saying that he had the car professionally polished recently. Clearly whoever did the work had no idea what he was doing. However, with the right materials and a mechanical polisher, which I have, I am confident that the paintwork will be great again.

In other news, my BIL is coming over tomorrow with the intention of taking the ML off my hands.

Have some post wash photos:
