It looks way better on those wheels. The old wheels will make a fantastic splash when you throw them in the canal

Great looking little car. And to think I used to sneer at Binis back when they were new. Fingers crossed pulley work sorts the bird noises.

Same here, I used to go on about "THEYRE NOT MINIS" etc etc, but secretly I quite liked them, I think I was probably jealous that I could never in a million years afford one.

I've only driven one with a modified seat for a driver who was 6'7", but I'd like to try one at some point to see how comfy it would be for me.

Yeah, looks way better on those wheels. Hopefully you'll get OMGCASHBACK for the old ones. The fit a lot of Jap stuff so should be no bother to sell.

Fingers crossed for pulley fixage curing untoward noises.

Not that you really need anyone else to point it out given 15 people have mentioned it already but it does look so much better on those wheels.

So theres water in the battery box. Should probably take the battery out, dry it all out and find the source of the leak like I'm Joey blummin Eunos or something. Lunch booked for one o clock and the battery positive lead seems to have a computer or something attached to it. Don't like the look of that. Maybe I can work around it in a comedy slapstick fashion.

If you hanvt got the right tools, use the tools you've got.

Water is now outside the car.

20190210_120432.jpg

Much dry, very winning.

Actual investigations will wait for another day. Feel better knowing there's no water in there now though. The boot carpet is helpfully attached to the rest of the cabin carpet so I'll dry it out as best as I can in situ.

After hooning today mpg is much unimproved.

Had fun though.

Also found the CENTRE CAP PULLING TOOL STORAGE STRAP.

I found a similar pool when the battery was replaced but couldn't find a leak source in the dry late summer's afternoon I had to actually look so drained it in a similar fashion and forgot about it. Are these not bad for rear lamp seals like R75s?

They're bad for leaking all over the back it seems.
Wiper spindle/or bung, rear lights, boot seal, high level brake light, spoiler mounts.

The boot latch is surface rusty so it's leaking through the hatch (maybe). I'll take the panel off and have a look but reckon I'll get about as far as you did man.

Strut brace improves handling.

But also pins in airbox. Underneath which sit gear linkages.

20190211_093017.jpg

The serpentine belt is looking past it's best so the Binner has been handed off to a better man with a detensioning tool and a hoist. And an actual grasp of mechanics.

By ear, the water pump is suspected but hopefully not as the end of the car would have to come off.

Well if it is, it's not leaking and it's caused no issues so this is the time to catch it.

The news is in and it is good news.

Idler pulley was found to be the noise issue. Pulley and belt changed and noise is now FUCKED OFF.
The arch liner was held in with 6 different type and length self tappers, some of which needed to be drilled out so I'm glad I didn't have a crack myself. It's all popped back together with correct fasteners now. *thumbs*

While in under the strut brace and air box an induction mod was discovered. The OEM airbox is adjusted to run a cold air pipe onto a K&N cone. That would explain the induction noise on power then.

20190213_131103.jpg

It was looking a bit manky so was blown out with a compressor and squirted with a bit oil.

20190213_131600.jpg

The mod is well regarded in r53 circles but I doubt it creates anything but noise (which I don't really mind).

All in all a good result and worth a trip out to the bay.
