Guest Asch
Has anyone any info on registering a VVC engined 1996 MG in France? I just got told by the DREAL in Limoges that it is not possible. I may have to wait till it is 30 years old for it to be accepted.
somewhatfoolish
Did the late lamented Dave Numbers not have a french registered MGF? Perhaps a search through his posts may turn something up.

I believe he did a LHD conversion too, but I've never seen the thread (as far as I recall).
tapir
Here's Dave's thread - http://autoshite.com/topic/25835-daves-roffle-mgf-thread-emissions-pass-finally/page-1 somewhatfoolish
Pillock
The OP has already posted in Dave's thread but whilst it goes into much detail on the (literal) nuts and bolts, it glosses over the paperwork side.
Guest Hooli
I just found the link too, but spent way too long reading it to be the first back here!
Guest Asch
I discovered this forum via Dave's post. If my car had been> 1998, there would have been no problem.
loserone
Gives you a couple of years to do the conversion. Just keep it UK registered till then, turning up once a year to MOT it?
Mr_Bo11ox
I think it can be done, but you'll need a European certificate of conformity, from these boys: http://www.mgrccservices.com/services/european-certificates-of-conformity/
scaryoldcortina
Dave's car was a '98. There might also be more clues if you look for posts relating to his land rover (a discovery iirc) which he also LHD and French registered - this was harder because it was a van model not sold in France. Eddie Honda
I may have to wait till it is 30 years old for it to be accepted. If my car had been> 1998, there would have been no problem. pre-1998 doesn't appear to need a Certificate of Conformity, pre-1988 would be historic vehicle, so another set of rules. Anyway, it appears your problem is the CoC. Get that and you're onto the next level. I reckon it'd still be possible to register without , but you'd have to have plenty of time and patience to slog through the bureaucracy of it all. Good luck. Guest Asch
They told me that it would need a full single vehicle inspection that is only done in Paris and costs around €2000. I hope that MGRCCserv can sort it.

UltraWomble
And then people wonder why there is such a thriving trade in ropey log books, number plates and VIN tags.
Guest Asch
I have no idea why the Drire would say that it was not possible to get the attestation. There were three of the fonctioners looking throught the files.
Mr_Bo11ox
Normally the hurdle with this is the C of C, and its only a hurdle cos its a friggin mega rip-off (like £150+ or something) to get hold of it. Presumably theyve taken one look at the job, thought 'how are you gonna get a C of C from a company that doesnt exist any more' and written if off as a bad job. I guess the 30 year thing is that you could apply for a classic car carte grise, you dont need a C of C for that but its got its own load of bureaucratic bother I think.
