I didn't notice the cossie comment even though I liked it, a couple of minutes before red5 arrived his neighbour also mistook my car for a cossie, I suppose it's the only thing people see these days these "lesser models" get overlooked and get no love

Matty the saph is a 2.0 gls and is bog standard bodywork and bumper wise, but your not the only one who has got mistaken people usually see shiney paint and the spoiler (which is standard his but shared with the cosworth)

Teach me for being too smart. Very nice though, that's why I love this site much of the stuff on here is very much off my era!

Well I may as well turn this into a thread for the car and it's happenings, we've used it for work for the past 2 days done about 85 miles in it in total it's been great, it's not a bad motor at all Mrs fp is smitten with it and already has plans for it, I can't wait until tomorrow when I'm off so I can fire into a couple of the jobs that need doing, it might even get a 2 bucket wrong un, hopefully I will remember to update you all

Daughter #2 has an older one and loves it - it was chosen by her and they went to Portsmouth or thereabouts to collect it (600 mile round trip) - as with yours, completely pain free.

She has used it daily for a couple of years and it has just been fully restored and now lives in the garage except for summertime and she has an MX5 for day-to-day use so as not to spoil the Escort.

I was free this afternoon so it was time to put some choonz in the cabriolet as the ford stereo LCD was non existent so I couldn't see to put the code in,

As luck has it as well the car came with a Sony 10cd changer with the cable which will speak to this stereo, I've took it out for now but it's to one side in case Mrs fp wants it in

I've also popped a 12" sub in to round the sound out it, running the wiring for this took the longest due to taking the plastics out and running the cables properly

post-4828-0-90016500-1547485523_thumb.jpg

I also gave it a clean on the outside while Mrs fp cleaned the windows and plastics, I got the passenger side and bootlid polished then it started raining

post-4828-0-04320000-1547485611_thumb.jpg

Then a good Hoover inside

Just look at the plastic wood in all its glory

I also chased a suspected vac leak on the pipes but nothing showed but I will investigate further

That's it for today

For Christmas I got this:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Ford-Design-UK-years-success/dp/1845849868/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1547500668&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=nick+hull+ford+design

It details how that fake wood was created, it was quite a complicated process given the end result looked fairly artificial.

“This latest Scorpio sported a further example of a new type of plastic wood process, developed by suppler Timbalex. This used a photographic wood print film suspended in a bath of water, with the component to be decorated being brought up beneath the film, which would then drape itself around the shape as it rose”. First used on the 95 ‘frog eye’ Scorpio.

BTW I can thoroughly recommend the book, there are a few sellers on Amazon who will do it for about £25.

Today I have given this a service, replaced the thermostat and found an Ill fitting vac pipe so sorted that as well, I also gave it a polish as my attempt yesterday was rudely interupted by rain, we took it out for a drive with the roof down

I think that tonneau cover finishes it off

Mrs fp loves this car already

I would check the thermostat housing, that's some leak.

I remember these being bloody ugly at the time they came out. Somehow now new cars are even uglier and that has made these look better.

I've had the same feeling about a few cars to be fair, I do think these will catch up with the following mk3 and mk4 cabriolets have pretty soon as they appear to have disappeared from daily circulation

I always wanted a Mk5 in red ever since my Army Cadet leader bought one new in 1990/91.

Exactly like this.

Not sure they will ever make big OSF tax money, in general I think convertible versions in this country are always worth less.

That Looks great.

I've just made a to do list on Mrs Sills Beetle cabriolet. A trip to the scrappies is in order for bits.????.

To be fair it's not the picture people get in their heads when I say I've been fiddling with a 22 year old topless escort

In my phone book , I've got an " Escort Woman" which caused MrsN to raise an eyebrow when she first saw it.

It's actually the number of a stupid cow that ran into the back of my Chrysler in a ropey old Eclipse a few years ago, there didn't appear to be any damage, but we exchanged numbers just in case my bumper fell off or summat.

Really should delete it, but then I've got numbers in there for half a dozen people who've died.

Another job ticked off today, it's been a little bug bear that whilst the exhaust was pretty recent from the cat back the tail pipe didn't exit right and the mounts weren't right so the exhaust wobbled about a lot Mrs fp wanted something that looked a little better as well so she purchased this that came this morning, Aren't her pjs just fantastic

A universal backbox with a 3" outward rolled tail

post-4828-0-53922800-1547741680_thumb.jpg

I set about fitting it by cutting the old box off and adjusted the original ford bolt on mount so the box sat right

post-4828-0-81424600-1547742184_thumb.jpg

I then set about lining it all up and welding everything up, now it looks like this

Well I'm getting peed off with the mismatched tyres so im popping to my favoured tyre supplier which is also an alloy wheel dealer in a bit to get a set of tyres put on, I like this local place been going there for years he is very personal he remembers customers and their preferences he also has no problem letting me jack the car up etc

This is the place

Always a good price

Got the tyres fitted and my god the difference was instantly noticeable just driving down the road, I suppose it would be though the old tyres were around 10 years old and had the consistency of plastic and I'm sure one or 2 were out of shape

Took the chance while it was up in the air to have a good look underneath and I am pleasantly surprised at it's condition

Well mrs fp wanted this lowered and firmed up as it rolled about in the twisties, so we got some coilovers expecting them only to lower by a little at the higher range of adjustment, how wrong we were, we have gaz coilovers on the other cars and they are great adjustment wise but seeming as this is a cheap bit of fun and the gaz stuff costs more than the cost of the car we got some TA technix jobbies instead

Warning those of a sensitive nature look away now

This is with the rear at full adjustment up, impressive lows

I will say though it drives lovely not crashy and doesn't shake your teeth out of your head and she likes it
