I sent you a link for the workshop manual didn't I? Or posted it in this rhread, I forget.

They might have an easier way to do it.

Yes you did put up the workshop manual here, thanks. It’s not actually difficult due to lack of instructions, more the lack of a ramp. The official way to do it is to work from underneath but I only have my driveway as a workspace so I will have to be creative. Last time I scrabbled underneath a car I managed to dislocate my shoulder so need to be cautious.

Ahh makes sense then. I'm not familiar with the layout on blown models.

Excellent progress. I had loads of grief with a Throttle Position Sensore on Rover R8 once.

I know the only connection is that Jaguar Rover Triumph were once part of the same stable many moons ago. But, a break in the carbon track played havoc with the fuelling and the TPS gave a different signal to the ECU than the throttle butterfly required.

The symptoms you have could well be that due to the play in the throttle body, the air flow and fueling required are different to that indicated by the TPS, if you get my drift.

On the R8, if you floored the throttle it would accelerate swiftly and smoothly as the faulty parts of the TPS was reached as passed in an instant. The issue was on slower and steady use of the throttle, the TPS hit the duff patch and threw a throttle off signal to the ECU resulting in much learner driver style learching down the road. I got a Bolliken off my lad cos it played up bad on his Driving Test. He passed but the examiner told him to get a new car.

Hope it helps as you could well be onto the root cause of the problem, although reverse component fault. E.g TPS OK, butterfly mechanism possibly note. The TPS and Throttle body need to be in sync and it sounds that on the XJR they are not. Continue with your hypothesis would be my shout.

Good post there Isaac Hunt. That is basically exactly what I thought, but hadn't taken the time to put it in words! I hope the throttle body itself is not broken. A replacement would not be cheap (well in the context of how much I paid for the car).

ELA was tidied up today and I took it to a nice spot nearby for photos. So it is officially for sale, and will be going on the open market for £3000 this weekend. MOT till 21/12/2019. About 110 500 miles. New front brake discs and pads, new rear subframe bushes (big job), welding to O/S and N/S inner sill/floor, which was done properly by a pro. Lots of service history, not written off or anything like that (I have done a car history check) all the books, two keys, at least one working remote fob. The wheels have been refurbished at some point and they have had the diamond cutting redone, not just someone painting them. They look fab. Runs really well, videos to follow. Consumes fuel like a burning oil-rig, but that is quite normal. Expect 18-20 Mpg. Performance is ballistic. It will bite if you provoke it so you have to be a little sensible especially on slippery roundabouts. Has a working CD multi-changer and functioning electric folding mirrors, which is a nice novelty.

Downsides are the usual clock, pinned headlining, one front wing is going around the bottom edge (other side perfect for some reason), some little blebs here and there. Overall it's solid but rough around the edges. The odd dent here, the odd spot of laquer peel (not much, a few coin size pieces), and it will need tyres.

Location, spitting distance of York.

I’m not inferring it’s not worth it, just an idle query. Very very tempted it would just compromise my financial wellbeing.

No worries, that is quite ok and I don't take any offense at all. To be honest I'm not looking for a big profit or anything, it took effort to buy and sort it out and it wasn't cheap to start with. The plan was to put it on auction starting at £3000 no reserve of course and see what happens. It might make a bit more or it might not get a bid, I just don't know. Then again perhaps I was a bit dismissive and should pass on the spirit of shite.

So with that in mind, the shitters price for this car will be £2800, which is the break even point for me, and I would be very happy to see it stay in this parish rather than deal with the many dreamers out there in the open market.

And yes it would compromise the financial wellbeing of many a shitter I'm sure, but the call of the supercharger is an alluring one to the extent I have falling for it three times already!

I also have one more video to post, it is that of how the Turquoise Shed proceeds* on the road. I recorded it so that hopefully on a happier day when it actually works, we will see just how big the difference is! Despite everything it can still achieve 60 Mph!

Wonderful things these. I remember my boss getting one brand new in 1995 in the same red and wearing the reg "N4 CAT" (now on a Ford Puma weirdly). We used to love bombing down to the Litchfield car auctions to pick up some chod in it. I used to drive it back to his house from the pub when he'd had a few on a Friday afternoon and loved it. One of those cars I've always fancied but too scared to own if you know what I mean.

By the way I was looking at the paint codes on the red cars. Both on ELA and the Red Bike it is CHF. I always thought it was Carnival Red, it is in fact Flamenco Red. The interior of ELA is cream, which looks almost identical to the oatmeal interior of the Red Bike.

Now that I think about it the turquoise car's throttle issues sound very similar to those I had on my 416GTi, although in that case the sensor was just misaligned/dirty, and reseating it etc sorted it.

Well, I've created a listing on a popular auction site, and the auction will go live for 7 days tonight a 21:00 at £3000 with no reserve. Let the silliness commence from then!

My word that is VERY tempting, I take it the 6cyl cars don't have traction control etc? does the A/C work?

Do you fancy a V8 Sov?

Damnit, PM sent as I much prefer the 6cyl dash amongst other things.

Thanks for all the interest and admiration. I’ve already tried a V8 N/A 4.0 X308 recently (flipped it with moderate success). Nice car, just now is not the time for another. I really would like to stick to the plan of converting ELA into cash one way or another, then bringing the Turquoise Shed up to some standard.

All supercharged X300s have traction control and it is pretty much essential. On other models I understand it was an optional extra. Not sure about XJ12 though. I’m not sure about the air con, it is hooked up and everything, just haven’t had suitable conditions to test it. I will try see if it can demise the screen at some point, that is usually a good indication on whether or not it works.

How much is the Sov? Asking for a friend...

I paid £1,100 in Nov and the only difference now is 2.5-3k more miles and the brakes don't drag. Ask 'them' for an offer?

If 'your friend' is interested PM me to save hijacking this thread. I'd update the Sov's thread but I've just got in the gym and can't find it on twattatalk.

Update...

I've been over viewed & had a go in this tonight. It's a lovely motor but it didn't grab me the way I hoped a first go in one would, so I'm out. It's nothing against the car at all, I might have just got old as I found I preferred the wafty softness of my Sovereign to the more focused XJR.

It's all yours ETG...
