GM was struggling to meet Federal rules even with cats, Honda bought an Impala, modified the engine and returned it, requiring no cat to pass the emissions regs. For a start, they’re Meade by different manufacturers That's a fair point but Lada were making the 1200 under license when the 124 was still current (for quite a while) and it's the same shell albeit with a different nose on the Riva.
