Evening all.

Picked up a 850 to tide me over (till head is done on D1) , and have fallen for its charm.

After a few bits if anyone is breaking one / sees one in a local Scrappy.

List:

Two front wings (any colour, just solid)

Radio

Boot interior trim (speaker and cluster covers)

Thanks.

Hopefully pictures work:

Somewhere at my office in one of the stockrooms, is the V70 in-dash 6 disc CD radio and also the 10 disc boot changer from my old 850T5.

You're welcome to them both if I can find them.

That would be greatly appreciated !

In other news, meant to do the timing and fuel pump belt on this today, but kept drooping tools etc, so called it a day.

Try again next week.

Done the thermostat & filled system (probably too much), as it's shat some coolant out.

Assume these are of the self bleeding variety ??

I seam to remember doing the same engine mount on my V70 tdi. Previous owner replaced pretty much everything trying to find out what the grinding noise was.

This has had some money threw at it, in the past.

So did make me wonder why it hadn't been touched, maybe it's similar to your scenario & they didn't know ????

Looks like I've picked it up at the 'wrong' time though, as things are starting to show their age / mileage

Mine had a grinding noise when turning left. Previous owner changed CV joints, wheel bearings etc etc it was only when I took it for mot that me and the tester were looking for reasons why and the engine felt kinda loose. Was well happy when I changed the mount lol

  • 1 month later...

So this old thing (that had been sitting a wee while before I purchased it) needed some serious love and attention.

First off, the stack of receipts and invoices fail to mention belt replacement, so onwards with that

Everything looks alright in here, thankfully no thick sludge or anything, and the cam / lobe faces don't appear to be that bad.

All the timing gear (Belts, tensioners etc) was genuine stuff.

Seing folk look at brand new Volvos, as I pulled up in a clunky old diesel, to collect parts - Priceless.

Anyway so random pictures:

With the MEGGA tight damper pulley, and sprocket off (thanks to previous individual who rounded everything off) .. We'll I was able to see the crank pulley had a small weep, which wasn't great as I had the incorrect seals, the three parts I didn't buy from Volvo (Camshaft and crankshaft seals)... yay.

Cleaned all that crud up before it was put back together.

It's an odd set-up on these, and the way to do both belts could easily lead to trouble, so if anyone goes about it make sure you create some marks, this was particularly handy for me, as I timed everything up as per Manufacturers marks (Flywheel, crank and Fuel pump) and it didn't fire into life.

Removed fuel pump belt, moved it to my marks, it fired up straight away, odd.

I've re-checked timing, crankshaft, camshaft to flywheel etc and all seems okay, just to the eye (well mine) the fuel pump is actually 4mm off it's timing point, so when I've got the correct lead for Vol-fcr, I will have to check the timing via laptop.

Or steal the correct tool to pop in the rear of the pump, and throw my DTI gauge on it.

Either way- I'm happy it runs well, and can rest a tad, that I know the cambelts going to be alright.

Next on the list.... Refurb wheels ?

Probably check the N/S wheel bearing, and put some new break shoes on it.

Still struggling to get some decent wings, which is a shame.

In case you’re wondering how good these are, here’s what mine managed before being written off (t-boned by a bus)

Was still going strong.

Would occasionally have a wobble when the injector that had the sensor on it did something funky, but you cleared the code in FCR and all was well once more.

Think I may still have the cable lying around.
