Mr Lobster
It has occured to me for a while that I've got a big fat nochancewhatsoever of finding a Renault 4 van in a UK scrapyard, and even if I did it would be fuck all use as it would be rotten. BUT, there seem to be plenty in France and from seeing VWP's scrapyard pictures they appear to be reasonably useful in terms of parts. So, I ask you - VWP or anyone else who can give me any advice, if I roll up at some French scrapyard with my just about passable French skills, am I going to get told to "Fuck off eeeengleeesh" or will the average French scrap purveyor be quite happy to let you in much as they would here?I'm thinking of having a week off at some point and heading across La Manche in a van y'see on a big parts finding mission! Thanks! Mr_Bo11ox
I have has mixed success with French scrapyards, but then again you would have mixed success with english ones if you just went to a random sample of them wouldnt you. Car bits generally cost more in France, so secondhand parts do too. When I wanted a secondhand bosch electric fuel pump I could nto find a scrapyard who would sell a secondhand one for less than 80 Euros! You could buy a new one off the bay cheaper. Twats. But then again there are still a few oldskool yards in france with a load of old shite thats been there since 1964, thats what you need, and I suspect those sort of yards are a bit more reasonable. Dukestar25
I used to hear that the french would scrap their motors for the same reasons we in the UK do now (crumpled front wing or something petty like that ) and just leave them wherever they broke down/got hit. For that reason, I would have loved to have gone on such a journey myself in the hope of bringing back running examples of any of the following (if they still exist in some cases ):
