Pimp my Ginetta - painting advice please...

It's re-decoration time in Ginetta land and I have a problem. I have commenced my own particularly shite repainting of the G26 using foam rollers, hard work and swearing. I have only done a small area so far and am pleased with the results. However I am worried about the quantities of expensive brush on car paint this required. The bodywork is decidedly rough, so I'm having to flat and guide coat just to see which areas are high or low.My question is this: is there a suitable DIY type cheap grey brushable primer that I can get for cheap to prepare a smooth surface for laying down the expensive top coats? It's fibrelass by the way.

Make sure you've no sandpaper scratches, these never come out.I've not noticed the difference between 6 quid Halfords and 1 quid poundland primer, only in the rattle can design, which is shite and drips. If you can, spray/brush the paint onto a flat surface, take doors off, it makes a massive difference.
