I bet that's a beast to drive.Interesting comment in the volksworld thread, that it was nearly destroyed in that Beanfield battle (the youtube film of it is in the thread)Certainly looked a very nasty episode  Thatcher's Britain for you

I used to get really annoyed by the lack of vehicles I could drive on my shitey post 98 licence. So I got my Class C licence (in the process, surrendering my paper licence which wasn't due to expire til 2051!), which has proved very lucrative in my job but seems to be worthless if I want to do any agency driving on the side, to tide me over - they all want artic drivers.

Plus you have to take a test for everything these days. Which means that without forking out for anything else I can drive this:

But not this:

Or even this (too many seats):

So when I picked my Imp up from long term storage, I had to borrow my older brother for the day to tow the hire trailer, despite the fact that I've more driving experience of driving heavier/longer/taller/wider loads.

FFS!

Why did they change it? I think what grates most about it is it suggests that those born after 1980 are less capable drivers than those born earlier! We've passed our tests more recently so it should all be fresher in our minds. It's descrimination to an extent! Why should us younger people not have the same entitlement to drive all the same vehicles as those over the age of 30? It should be equal across the board or not at all.

Think it's something to do with EU rules. Without getting all Daily Mail, it seems that the idea was to bring the UK licences in line with mainland Europe ones, along with the idea of photocard licences, for a bit of uniformity. I've only heard it as a rumour, but apparently there have been instances whereby if someone with a pre '98 licence hands in their paper jobbie for a photocard one, it may not be returned with all the previous allowences on, unless they've taken specific tests in the past (Road-roller and other bizarre-o stuff). Can anyone confirm or deny this? Not GR8 4 caravanners... On another note, that camper certainly looks interesting but when I think Thames, it's usually those rounded bonnet ones which don't look much like a Ford to me.

/\ I've heard these rumours but never actually seen anything to subtantiate it. I've sent my licence back for change of address a couple of times and never had any problem, I also see a lot of driving licences through work and never seen any evidence of this so can only assume it is one of those urban myths unless someone can prove otherwise.

Two words, Experience and Traffic, or more to the point more traffic. With a side order of modern cars being capable of more speed without noticing. it never seaced to amaze me how many teacher could think they could drive a minibus loaded with kids cos their license said they could....
