Obviously, I think its a great purchase. I hope the collection of 8 miles doesn't prove too much for you/it.

That's well weapon. Winter beater par excellence and no mistake.

Also, this, its a weapon and a half. but a winter beater?  This sort of car age/mileage/condition wise is what I would call a sensible, modern and reliable transport to be seen as a sort of motoring 'best suit' my idea of winter beater is far far below this level, this is Autoshite, should Y reg cars with no rust and service history not be seen as witchcraft?

Ah, you misunderstand me. I have a '98 Audi A4 1.8T, 'S' plate, in generally good condition. For a while I bought an '05 Alfa 156 but rapidly sold it when I got buyers remorse — I had no place in such a new and valuable car.

The A4 is basically the same as the Octavia but without a propshaft. I bought it ten years ago for a grand and didn't expect to still have it today — but the thing just keeps going. It's brilliant. While I squirrel the Rover away before the first sign of grim weather lest it turn into orange soup with rubber bits floating in it, the Audi and, by extension, the Skoda, will literally shrug in the face of the winter apocalypse.

I use the phrase Winter Beater purely because of its astonishing ability to survive when other Autoshite favourites go all fragile. Plus 4x4 for Snownanigans.

Now arriving Friday, due to vehicular congestion at Col towers.....................Temp gauge doesn't [TADTS,] front and rear bumpers could do with repainting, apart from that........drives really well, nothing like a 150k miles car................ a re-map may be on the cards............

I know the derv ones suffer from a fault where the solder fails in the cluster- result is nae temp and nae fuel gauge.

Application of a solder melting and spreading device guarantees* a rejuvenation..

Likely a guide on briskoda.net ( along with tuning info!)

I'll leave this here to whet ones appetite..

For comparison, an e90 M3 V8 does circa 12.6 for a quarter mile..
