Dads still trying to get his LNA back on the road , The broken drivers window is proving to be an issue. Thanks to someone on here I managed to get the glass but still need the metal channel and rubber that goes on the bottom of the glass .

Anyone on here know of one we may purchase?

Cheers in advance

Window channels are hard to find and after a year of searching including having the wrong one sent from France, one of the members of the 104 - Samba - LN/A Facebook group found me one. This was important as I wanted to take it to the Chevrons Rally two weeks ago to meet its cousins Samba and 104 Shortcut. I don't know if there are anymore channels spare in the group but joining the group and becoming an active member is your best bet.

This may be a silly suggestion, and appreciate its not an ideal fix, but could a sheet of perspex be cut to fit all the way down inside the door so its wedged between the door bottom and the window frame? Perspex will probably tolerate being manhandled into place like this, and once in, should stay put?

Obviously its far from ideal, and won't move once fitted but if its the difference between being able to go out in the car or not, or staying dry on a rainy day and not, then might it be worth a look?

Looking at 6c's photo, it looks like a session with a metal folding machine might be able to make something similar?

Option B, does anyone have a metal channel thats not fitted to a car, but which could be used as a template for a fabricator to make one or many replacements? I'd like to imagine a man in a shed somewhere could probably create something that would work for a reasonable fee? And if you got 5 or ten made up then you could probably sell them to club members and have whats effectively a free fix for your LNA?

I may be talking utter tosh though.

Ok my guess is that having them made would be possible but it would cost too much.

Oh absolutely, as a one-off it'd be a right chore for someone skilled to make, but if you got a small run (say 5 or 10) made up then sell the ones you don't use to others in the same situation you might end up breaking even, or even just offset the cost of the one you had used?

I mean if you could get someone to make up five identical ones for £200, you could sell them at £50 a pop and be even. I guess demand for them (even if they are unobtanium) is low, so commissioning a run of 50,000 might not be the best idea ever! However if a small number of owners need them and are willing to pay a modest sum for a fabricated part it might be worthwhile?

I had a very similar issue with my Visa GTi window channel rotting out in similar places. Presumably, Visa window channels are just as unobtainable as LNA ones and me being in New Zealand made it doubly problematic, so I had no choice but to improvise.

I've rooted through my photo archive but sadly can't find any relevant pics but what I ended up using was a 3-dr 205 window channel, since it had the same shape metal and rubber bit that attaches to the bottom of the glass and luckily, I had one in stock.

However, the 205 channel for the runners was way too broad for the Visa ones but luckily I had access to a scrapped K11 Micra, the front door channel of which was a perfect fit for the Visa runners and was handily a long section, which could be cut down to size. As a double bonus, it slotted nicely within the 205 channel (don't remember how I fixed it in place), so job jobbed.

Hope that helps - and is coherent!

EDIT: It seems I waffled on about my amazing mod here: http://autoshite.com/topic/7520-my-new-zealand-shite-update-0304-mkii-cavalier-goodness/?p=810620

  • 3 weeks later...

As a manufacturing engineer I'd be interested in seeing a sketch to see if I could advise on remanfacturing/rapid prototyping egg.

Personally I'd be doing what builders of rally cars have done over the years. Perpex fixed window with a little port hole and a sliding perpex "door" but then I've never done much correctly.

By coincidence arrived today from a Uk FB group member is the last know left side (passenger on my RHD) window channel for my LNA.

It is currently sat on my desk as the car is back in storage if you want it measured.

My concern is there are only 3 running LNAs in the UK and a few 104 3 doors so the market will be tiny.
