Bren
Honest question - how many of you still get excited about getting new wheels? I must admit I don't really get excited anymore. I remember getting my first decent car a cav SRI back in 1992, no rust, filler, gorgeous black paint - I thought I was the bollocks. Sadly never had that feeling since. bolognasal spray and ProgRocker

davehedgehog31
I was excited about the Rover and Pug, although also a bit nervous. I don't particularly get excited about getting a car too similar, or the same as one I've owned before.

New POD
I have trepidation. If you buy sub 1000 quid cars you are hoping that nothing breaks in the first month, Other wise I get "I told you to buy a decent car" brownnova
cort16
I get excited about some but not others. So, so many cars. The first new car I had was a real buzz as I never thought I'd have one. Bren

bolognasal spray
I only ever had one new car - my 2004 fuckus - and after my shitty mkII escorts, it was a stress because I was paranoid about where to park in case someone scratched it. I also couldn't drive like an arsehole because what if I pranged it. I don't even get excited about bikes. Bikes are mad. I mean, if you like cars you'll love bikes. They're incredible. Everything about them is ace - even the slow ones with tiny engines feel more involving and faster than the best car. But a "new" bike comes into the garage and I enjoy it and look after it properly, however if I'm honest I'm pretty damn sanguine about the whole affair. Sort of sucks really. iainrcz
Yes. I love the whole thing of getting a new (not new obviously, I'm not fucking stupid) I've almost convinced myself I need a gt86, even though I've only had my rcz since last may. Marm Toastsmith
Fear and excitement in equal measures, still the same 19 years and 97 cars later.... Same here, 24 years and more cars than years, if not quite as many as 97! Wish I'd kept pics of all my cars. The fear is a weird one - the whole thing gets blown out of proportion in my head, I mean it's just a car, invariably a cheap one, how bad can it be? I haven't slept soundly for a week because I'm so excited about my new car, even although I haven't yet found one that I like! Yep! Same! I lost quite a few nights' sleep over my search for a new car, bonkers really...but it was all worth it - I'm still buzzing with excitement since I bought the 205 2 weeks ago. Every night before I go to bed I look at it out of the window and feel a warm fuzzy feeling. It's an odd one. I am slightly mad, of course, but it's probably too late for me to change. Doctormop
I trawl Ebay and Autotrader every night looking at cars I will never buy; Used to love sifting through possible purchases, phoning sellers and arranging to view and haggle and drive home in my latest car.Now the thought of trying to buy a car terrifies me, I've been driving a 2003 Civic for almost five years (five weeks with the same car used to be commented on, five months considered a milestone) I just can't get the excitement back.I sometimes think its because I used to enjoy driving but now see taking to the road as a battle for survival that I can never win. Junkman
It depends on what it is.I was really excited to get a v12 Jaaaaag. Not so when I had to come back with a fucking Hitler taxi. I'm not going to buy another car that doesn't excite the living shit out of me.In what little life I've left there is no space for such rubbish anymore. Peter C
I couldn’t have cared less when I collected my brand new Hyundai Tucson lease car back in February but I almost creamed myself when I got my W124 in May and I’m still in love with it today. eddyramrod
I still enjoy the hunt. Checking out prospects, bidding on ebay or waiting for a Roffle draw (will I win? The excitement is the same either way). The collection day.I especially like the sensation of driving something as mine for the first time, if it's something I haven't owned before. Bringing my MR2 over from Halifax stands out there, as does fetching my Mercury Sable from Durham. How long the feeling lasts is a whole other question, though. The car needs to feel special to keep the mojo going. I was soon bored with my Vectra, for example.
New POD
Since my collections are mostly miles away, I usually think "please don't fucking break down" when doing the drive back, once it's complete the few hundred miles it's gained my trustI bought the MV6 off JohnK in Middlesborough. I knew it had an oil leak. I knew it turned left when you braked. I knew it had a massive dent in the rear passenger door. I knew that over the following week I would need to drive it my family to Cardiff some 440 miles around trip and a total of 1500 miles in the first month. At the time I documented my wife's reaction. Not good. 2 years later and 45k she admits it's been a decent car and comfortable too.

garbaldy
I dont get exited when hunting down and buying a car,That could be down to the fact that I had 4 cars before I could legally use them or maybe because I've never had less than 3 cars at any period since then, maybe I'm just sick of cars after another incoming taking the figure back to a dozen which I've been trying to shrink to a more healthy number, damn you temptation cort16
cort16
You buy a car for x, there's always something it needs to you spend y. You change insurance that costs z. You then immediately see something else you want so you sell it for( x+y+z) -40% Then you look back and think why did a I do that. The biggest kicks I've had are getting the bucket list cars I really wanted. XJR, Avantime and Z4 are the very few that come to mind, the other ones I buy on impulse usually end up in disappointment and ruin. Cadillac CTS, Panda 100HP to name but a few. Toledo71
Switching from a misery spec Golf mk 2 to my first Saab, a 9000CSE with loads of kit, was a great feeling that I've never quite replicated since. For the same kind of quantum leap I'd need something in the top level grand tourer league.
Tamworthbay
I start with the excitement, then have a period of concern that I may have made the wrong decision/ bought a shed (buyers regret?) then the excitement starts again when I collect it. The recent purchase being a prime example, it’s restarting my car fettling mojo after a summer where the propespect of doing anything on the daily just caused me stress. I have spent more time on the new one than I needed to on the old one but it’s been doing non critical improvements as opposed to ‘can’t get to work on a Monday if it goes wrong’ sort of stuff. sierraman
I start with excitement, then make my mind up upon seeing it, pay for it, then get it home then find out all the stuff that’s actually wrong with it that I didn’t spot. I think that’s the format for most people. eddyramrod
Stinkwheel
I do if it’s a Citroen or a yank tank or a motorbike. To me and with my car history, I do get the ‘special’ feeling if it fits the above. Pretty much anything else is just a car.
w00dy
I still get excited and nervous. I do buy the majority of my cars unseen from eBay without return tickets just to keep things interesting though. It's like a lucky dip where the prize is making it back home. Not sure I'll ever quite replicate the excitement levels of going from Brighton to Glasgow on a Megabus sleeper coach to pick up a very cheap, but somewhat rough CX in the snow.
